The most expensive Windows XP is professional version, which is about 400+(like you mentioned). The one you're refering to is probably Windows Vista (Ultimate)?

The RM4xx version is OEM, the RM1k version is retail. Both are legal for business use.

OEM is the licence for 1 company only. That means it is not transferable.
On the other hand, retail one is for 1 user only, that means you can use it on any 1 computer at a time.

That is if I am not wrong. Please don't shoot me if I am wrong.

Make it more simple.. oem license will stick with the comp that you'll be installing the windows in which means once you change pc then you will have problems activating the license again unless you have some very good reasons to convince the microsoft staff . In other words, retail version will allow you to use this windows again even if you change a new pc in the future.

so, it's legal to install oem version in old pc? how about if my hard disk spoil, then the oem windows can't be used in new hard disk? hmm.gif

what you meant with 'have problem activating the license'? is that will fail to install the oem windows in another pc?

The OEM license is tied to your motherboard. If hard disk spoil, still can use the license. Motherboard dies, the license goes with it.

The OS will not fail to install on another computer, and you probably can still activate it too either online or via phone. But considering that you are using it for business, you will have to buy another license if the computer is broken without warranty.

Yes you can. Just buy the OEM license with a qualifying product, such as hard disks or optical drives etc.
But I think if you just buy it stand-alone, you should be able to get away with it.

Kalau mahu beli WinXP OEM, sebenarnya mesti beli bersama-sama aksesori macam mikroprocessor atau cakera keras etc. Tapi kalau beli cuma WinXP OEM tu saja pun boleh rasanya.

Just to be safe, buy the WinXP with a cheap mouse/keyboard/power cords. Habis cerita. Jangan lupa minta resit.
