Hi guys...
I just bought ext HDD. WD passport essential 250GB.

I had problem in detecting it in XP computer BUT not all. My XP loaded laptop also can. Today my colleague's XP loaded cannot. Another colleague's XP can. (also my XP desktop pc cannot, only one port can detect)

I am confused...why some XP can detect..why some cannot?
Help me guys...

I dont know is it 1.1 or 2.0. But according to the spec of the HDD, it says supports both.
The connector that comes with the package is 1 to 1. (its not the Y type, 2 connectors)

Typical problem with USB-powered 2.5" external HDDs.... USB NOT ENOUGH POWER PROBLEMS... hmm.gif

Many eons ago, I have repeatedly remind folks about this issue again and again... Here is my latest quote on one of the external HDD discussion threads..

The #1 problems with USB-powered 2.5" external is often USB not enough power. You may experience different problems when connecting to different machines... That's because not all USB ports are made equal (ie. usually USB power on every machine is different). Some may work wonderfully with your external HDD... while others you may get problems like...

- problems recognizing the drive (unknown USB storage device),
- problem mounting the drive (can see drive but can't access)
- sudden self-disconnections (external HDD suddenly disappear, and sometimes re-appear again)
- "delayed write failures" (errors when copying/moving files from/to external HDD)
asusfreak
this is standard due to usb port porb n spprt speed...
