Full Version: Replacement for Windows System Restore
Lowyat.NET > Computers > Software

Hi. I'm looking for replacement for Windows System Restore. It could be software or any other approach. This is due to unreliability of Windows System Restore, as the restoration process can be failed easily & the system restore point can be deleted easily as well.

I tried Rollback RX, it seems to be very good, based on their own claims, but funny that it can't support compressed drives, which is like the Windows XP NTFS disk compression technology.

So, I'm finding any other solution to take system snapshot juz like System Restore. I think system of Windows XP included the Windows folder & Registry keys, right? Maybe I can try to tackle these directly. But I'm looking for some advice 1st. Really hope that u can help me out. Thx. ^^

I tried Roxio GoBack last time back when I'm using Win98/ME. Very good software.

What about Norton Ghost, or Acronis Snapshot thingy (don't know the name)?

Windows SteadyState is only reverting the changes made to the pc.

I want something that can schedules creation of multiple system snapshot, not like images, as they're consisting large amount of data, which requires significant time or files can be specifically selected, but more troubling.

I want it to works like Windows System Restore. However, Windows System Restore is sometimes unreliable & less options, restoration could fails, restore points can be overwritten, possibly takes up a lot of disk space & potentially disabled by malware or virus.
