To run Windows XP - NotebookReview.com

I seems to have problem with the internal mic for everything except Skype. Even when I try to set up the speech recognition using the mic, it wouldn't detect any sound, unless I shout right in front of it. Anyone know how to fix that? Tried updating driver but no luck.

Need recommendation for a good and affordable cooler pad for a 17" like this.

o...its ok..i've just ordered 1720 2day...and shud be delivered in about 1-2 weeks...=D i still think that despite d bad reviews...this model is great 4 desktop replacement coz of d hugh display and keyboard...

Good specs you have there. What color are you having? Maybe most people prefer to have a better portability laptop instead. 1720 is indeed quite bulky, but it's not an issue to me as I'm using it as a desktop replacement. The number pad is handy especially for password typing.

4kg ....so heavy ...nt many ppl want ...because many ppl prefer light laptop

can any1 recommend me a cooling pad for 1720...since its huge...my budget is below RM200...

is it possible to install an additional hdd by myself? since i only got a 160gb previously and although i have a 320gb external, i think i need to add on soon.. will it be alot of hassle? and what type of hdd to i have to look for?

It's call notebook hard-disk. For example : You can purchase it like Rm120 for 160gb HDD.
You can't just install the hard-disk right away into your 1720 , you need the harddisk caddey for it , something like a special casing/tray to slot into the extra slot.

I dont think anyone selling it in Malaysia though , maybe you can buy from other countries via ebay.

wats the biggest capacity..?i was hoping for 500gb if theres any...so...u cant get any from msia?

The harddisk you could get in anywhere but not the Caddey , the case for our 1720 which just like a notebook hdd needs a External casing only can fit in.

anyone know.. why if we order online on dell website, the part of secondary hardisk need to be exactly the same speed and capacity with the primary hardisk? can anyone explain this? What about if after sale i change my secondary hdd to the larger capacity and speed? Can it be done? do the lappy motherboard can support this?

well...a lil bit review of this lappie......
it s a lil bit heavy......
but all works well.....it dont have heat problem.....unlike XPS....
it work fine eith AutoCAD.....
overall im statisfied....

Here's some info for the second caddy for the 1720.

Regarding the second HDD, connector and metal frame(caddy) can buy direct from Dell Malaysia for peanuts, less than RM20 including delivery. If you buy the screws from them, they screw you for about RM5 per screw, you need 6 pcs. Juz buy screws from screw shop/ 6 pcs at 20cents each.

Also note that the HDD2 caddy is different from HDD1. Be sure to order the correct one or it wont fit.

I suspect vista having some problem handling memory + i/o ... sometimes my apps will pause abit
then run. this is very apparent when opening multiple tabs in my browser and running chess titan

hi guys im a dell inspiron 1720 user. Is been almost a year with this baby. Just curious where i just found out there's a sim card slot hidden right behind the battery. Anyone know how to activate and use that slot? Maybe for our celcom broadband 3g service? Thanks all master

Now dell dont have this model anymore oo.. Specs looks cool..

If not mistaken is actually for 3G. But need to add a small 3G card.. perhaps once 3G is more widely available the hardware will become more affordable
