Body
1. A200/300/350's street price is relatively cheaper than other bodies in the market. Offers the lowest cost of entry into DSLR for comparable models.
2. All Alpha systems have Wireless Flash capability built-in plus all Sony flashes are wireless capable, even the F36AM
3. All Alpha systems have Super Steady Shot (SSS) in its body hence image stabilizer technology for all lens.
4. Sony's high ISO performance is great.
5. All Alpha systems have Kelvin WB adjustments.
6. All Alpha systems have Eye-Start AutoFocus.
7. Sony currently offers the best Live View implementation among the brands. It can be tilted for more practical Live View usage. The ability to adjust WB on-the-fly with Live View and let's you see the changes immediately (only other brands/model to offer the same are the Olympus E420, Nikon D300 and D3).
8. Entry level Alphas are very user friendly and eases the transition from Point and Shoot users.
9. Better designed portrait grip which feels just like the camera grip. The shutter button is lower so you get a much more stable hold due to the lower center of gravity.
10. Fast access and multiple ways to change settings on the A700.
11. Dynamic Range Optimizer has the most practical effect of all dynamic range compression technologies of any brand.
12. Screw-drive focusing and SSS on body mean that the same lens on a future body can get faster focusing and stronger stabilization.
13. Very accurate AWB compare to other brands.

Lens
1. SAL1870 is the best kit lens among other comparable kitlenses.
2. Carl Ziess and G lens offers superb optics.
3. All Alpha DSLRs is fully compatible with older Minolta AF lenses (and you get SSS on these lenses too).
4. Most Sony lens prices are comparable to other brands.
5. Standard Sony lenses (non-G, non-Zeiss) are of excellent quality, inheriting Minolta glass quality, better than competitor's standard lenses.
Lens List

Like.No.Others
1. Sony Malaysia provides free workshop such as Basic Photography and Image Editting courses (nice prizes up for grabs)
2. Sony Malaysia offers free membership at Alpha Community for group peer support with friendly members.

vandechrome : FYI, next time number your pics so that easier for people to comment.

I like yuor last pic. Captured the ambient lights nicely. Image also clean. Good shot.

I see you are getting sharp pictures now. Keep shooting!
soulfly
vandechrome, i like your wide shots.

however the flower shot seems to be just ok. probably it doesn't look that nice in that kind of framing. to me, it will work in that kind of framing if it was a bed of flowers.

or maybe try shoot from a lower angle.

haha... i know it's cheap... but in term of sharpness color n bla bla bla... is it better than the kitlens... if it is better, then worth it... if it's not better than the kitlens... then no need to look. Has anyone any experience in this lens? Thanks...

got 5 packages..but i came alone, so they just gave me first package about 500m inside in 40 minutes..felt so sad because cant get gud shot in short time..if u want to go really deep inside, better find more than 9 members as they would not aloowed u to go further if came alone like me.. sweat.gif

vandechrome, care to share with us the exif data of ur last shot?
nice shot btw.. icon_rolleyes.gif
pky
IF my memory serve me right, there are 3 packages for gua tempurung.
Beginner level will walk short short in the cave without getting wet. nothing much to explore. walk on cement pavement. still got electrical light
intermediate level will explore further into the cave, will get a little wet at the end of the journey as the guide will bring u walk out along the water stream. Walk on cement pavement too. Still got ambient electrical light
Pro level will explore the whole cave. after going deeper, until the end of the cement pavement, journey will continue in total darkness without cement walkway. totally depend on torchlight. and the path more edventurous and more obstacles. water is not deep, but u have to do "duck walking" so can get wet above waist level too. got one option where we can choose to crawl on the waterstream too.

advise u not to bring small children for the pro level.

I like the Sony Alpha system because they have wireless TTL support in all their bodies and flashes

user posted image
Flash from behind left at 85mm. Flash from top front right at 17mm. Both flashes in TTL mode, so it's automatic!

I love Sony's wireless TTL flash system. Every Alpha has a wireless TTL controller built in, even the cheapest A200.

I like Sony Alphas because you can set precise white balance in all bodies

user posted image

I love how the Sony A300/A350 lets you change Kelvin White Balance while in Live View. This, and the Olympus E-series, and the Nikon D300/D3, are the only digital SLRs with this feature.

Quick reference street price list updated 15th May 2008:

Sony A200 + 18-70mm F3.5-5.6 DT = RM17xx
Sony A200 + 18-70mm F3.5-5.6 DT + 75-300mm F4.5-5.6 = RM23xx
Sony A300 + 18-70mm F3.5-5.6 DT = RM23xx
Sony A300 + 18-70mm F3.5-5.6 DT + 55-200mm F4-5.6 DT = RM22xx
Sony A350 body only = RM23xx
Sony A350 + 18-70mm F3.5-5.6 DT = RM26xx
Sony A350 + 18-70mm F3.5-5.6 DT + 55-200mm F4-5.6 DT = RM31xx
Sony A700 body only = RM44xx

Sony VG-B30AM battery grip for A200/A300/A350 = RM6xx

Sony HVL-F36AM flash = RM8xx
Sony HVL-F42AM flash = RM8xx
Sony HVL-F56AM flash = RM11xx
Sony HVL-F58AM flash = RM11xx (not yet available)

Sony HVL-F42AM Mass Order, Kuala Lumpur:
1. syukur
2. bysquashy
3. ezani79

dark lenanza: There are a lot of people out there who we don't know, who use all these lenses. Apparently the STF has sold quite a few, through Sony Style somemore! There are also like 5-6 people running around with a Sony Carl Zeiss 24-70mm F2.8 SSM.

vandechrome: Wow, now the pictures are sharp... but the framing isn't as creative. sad.gif Try getting lower with the railings. See #2? It could extend out and touch the corner.

Ian, I highly recommend at least intermediate level because it will be a lot of fun. At one part it was total darkness when I was told to switch off all the torchlight. VERY VERY VERY VERY COOL !!! I also remember one part that you will have to do commando crawl under the sharp edges stalactite.

The beginner is boring, just stairs and lighting, I can say for senior citizens.

All this talk about caves, I'm officially back from Sarawak with some cave pics of me own from Niah Cave (no flash photography? brows.gif ), if only I can find the strength to upload them (me legs, head, arms and everything else are killing me from the entire 1+ week trip)... brows.gif

Niah was fine, though it was more a looooooooooong walk on slippery, treacherous, pitch black, bat poop covered, creaking and crumbling wooden walkways rather then real true blue splunking... laugh.gif

Thankfully the cheapo disposable weathercoat DIY camera cover I made saved my cam from quite some amount of bat poop and cave water, who says Sony cameras aren't weather proof? laugh.gif

@Bro Soulfly: Sorry tak sempat to meet up... sweat.gif

And now, to get myself one long lens and one super-duper-wide... The baby fifty + my 24mm were fine 98% of the time, but there was just not enough reach OR width when I needed it during those crucial 2% extra!

As for the HVL-58AM, THE FLAGGY-SHIPPY HAS FINALLY GOT A NAME!

Hail the new KING!

And darnit I'll have to start selling more body parts again... sweat.gif
