Malaysia International Fireworks Competition (MIFC) is back, it is a year after the MIFC-2007,
here comes the MIFC 2008 !!

I had been there last year, it is the opening of my journey to photography as u could read the stories at my blog
( http://mindblog.d2mx.net/?p=21 )

and some fireworks photography tips for all type of camera users :
http://mindblog.d2mx.net/?p=47

I never knew we have this event every year.. what's best of it ?
It is FREE FOR ALL THIS YEAR, So be there early to get the nice spot, and fireworks are free to be watched over the skies.

Venue: Putrajaya Internation Convention Center (PICC) area.

Schedule :

Malaysia - August 12 2008
China - August 16 2008
Canada - August 20 2008
Spain - August 24 2008
Grand finale - August 29 2008

still no information on time yet, but based on my experienced last year, it is around 9pm-12am,
but i can tell u that, the best part of the events, the fireworks only lasted for 10minutes..

Here are some photos I have taken with my S3IS on MIFC 2007 last year. (click to enlarge).

Looking forward to take more pics this year.. rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

Tripod check! Remote shutter release cable... um... can that work for D40X?

But I'm definitely gonna make it a point to attend! nod.gif
dgrebel
last time i check. shutter release cable rm150 at YL. sweat.gif

luckily i just bought a sturdy tripod with ballhead. no need la shutter release cable. just snap the shutter button. lol
mindkiller6610
my advise would be find a higher ground where u can have the clean shot of the whole area..

no point stand down there and close to the firing stage, coz the smoke will block the fireworks from down there..

stay high, stay clear.

I think so, especially if u got a clear view of the whole area, UWA adds more scene to the frame..

My previous experince told me UWA is completely useless.. It is even very safe to use 24-70 on 1.5 or 1.6 cropping factor camera...

I was having my ex-10-22 mounted that time... while shooting found completely useless, and changed lenses.. wasted shots. cry.gif

Thanks! I'll have to put that in my shopping list. I presume that would work for the D80 and beyond too right so it's a reusable thing even if I upgrade?

What's a good focal length for that? Wide? 17-50mm sufficient?

RM150? Original is it? Pirated ones is less than a hundred. If you want more budget, just DIY the remote. laugh.gif

i bought it purposely for my upcoming trip to.. uh nvm let it be secret. brows.gif

but anyway, ya, it's kindda useless indoor without a speedlight, coz u get shadows all the way. so, if u r investing on a UWA, get a speedlight!

Yes. I saw the tutorial on the net. Anyway, we engineers have a saying, "nothing is impossible".
dgrebel
lol. post the tutorial here mengsuan. i'm pretty sure i will do it. not that i'm a cheapskate but it's a great DIY to try on. and less costly too.
mengsuan
I can't find the page anymore. Anyway, I just took my 40D and tested. There are 3 pins. The bottom pin is ground connection. The top left pin will trigger AF when grounded. The top right pin will release shutter when grounded. I'm now going to check how to bulb.
mindkiller6610
added this event to my blog entry, together with some humble photography tips too smile.gif

where you stand last time? too far or too close ?
I would like to have a lens wide enough to squeeze alot of scene details into the photo.

Ya, the ML-L3 remote works on d80 too..

last time when i was using S3IS, i was using 6mm, which is around 35mm in 35mm equivalent,
so i guess 18mm on 1.5x = 27mm should be alright.

And it depends on where you standing also. Try stand on higher ground, include some structures and building into the picture.
mengsuan
Okay, found the way to bulb 40D. Just ground both AF+shutter pin.

Anyone have CP-E4 battery pack for canon speedlite? I want to try DIY a battery pack instead of paying RM600+.

This 400D remote tutorial will work on 40D too. The only difference is the socket type.
bunvirus
worry jam? like that.. we camping first lor after the event
someone organize la.. we bawak food, drinks, after finish taking picture.. all must duduk lepak n talk cock sing song woo

That's for 300D/350D/400D. I can easily make one of those too; just cut the cable and short all of the wires together. Tada.. *shutter sound*

lol.. thanks for bringing this thread back up to life.. tongue.gif
heheheh... so, decided already which area is a good spot to take pictures?
mindkiller6610
ermm.. it is not a one day events, so we can change to different spot if first spot is not suitable.

for the first day, i think i will join the crowd and go up to the PICC building (if they allow us to go up like last time)..

then other days might change to different location to get different compo..

let's try not to saturate at one area on the same day.. separate into few groups for different locations..then we can have different compo of the same day fireworks thumbup.gif thumbup.gif
