Guys, i am about to buy a PS3, but since i heard about the lens issues, i am having doubts on buying one from stores.
I need some kind of advice from those who did some research about how to know if your ps3 has been counter fitted.
If i were to buy a ps3, what should i look for to ensure that the ps3 was not modified?

umm... afaik, there's no modified ps3 available yet?

there has been some rumors that there are some counterfitted lens already inserted into some ps3, thats why the lens does not last longer then it should be.

well, if u live in klang valley, buy ur ps3 from shops that have good reps like gamer's hideout or bernard's shop. u can check console's couch sub-forum for their threads

Just get your system from Gamer's Solution (Bernard) or SCE (Keane). Trusted and reliable shops I would say.

well IMPOV...PS3 will be modified soon...but not NOW...and if there were, I'll NOT buying or modifying it...BUY ORIGINALS

the reason was pretty simple...PlayStationNetwork & i believe you ain't gettin in it if da machine software been modified or the hardware itself (i guess so)...

There's no such thing as 'counterfeit' PS3. At least not yet. What you probably mean is PS3s with lens that are replaced with inferior ones. That one is harder to tell. Just go to reputable shops. You already see some mention them here.

There's no such thing as fake lens....all the rumors that you've heard are totally BULLSHIT...This thread is totally useless....

em.. in my opinion only 80 giga p3 have this kind of problem before,
last time when i selling 80 giga p3, got 3 machine kena on lens locked already.
is actually not broken, is that kind of protection lock already, this is what i heard from my gamer friend.. he said that

for latest p3 market now, i think 40giga is cheap and is most stabil
i have a p3 white colour, region 3 , asia set, everyday 12.30pm till 9.30pm
and playing pes2008, is already 4 month.. dont have any problem yet.. that what i can said ..

just take care well your p3, if u dont want to play already, just eject the disc out and then press and hold the button till red light, then only close the back power switch of the p3.. this is the best way to keep your p3 more longer time lah... dont use your p3 controller to turn off the system.. i heard from my friend, it was not good .

is there a diff turning it off using the PS button rather thn the hold power button on the ps3?? its the same ler.. why would sony wanna do such a thing?
