a few hints of achieving it, use your flash and set your camera to Av mode and set it to the highest aperture u can get. snap a photo of a subject and while the shutter slowly opens, move around the camera to a light source. it's also called slow-sync flash

simple tutorials made available on the net:
http://digital-photography-school.com/blog/slow-sync-flash/
http://digital-photography-school.com/blog...c-flash-images/
http://photo.net/learn/concerts/mirarchi/concer_4.htm

simple rules:
1) must be your original work of photography dated within the submission period.
2) EXIF data must be provided, and a little description on how u achieve it would be a bonus.
3) my decision is final, there shall be no amendments to be made later on.

Submission Dates:
Jun 19 2008 - July 19 2008

Prize:

not very beautifully composed. not even what we're looking for. but it's light fueled and i can feel the synergy of the ever glamorous long exposure combo. loved the glowing illumination though. smile.gif

been there. done that. i realize that the blacks are heavily contrasted using Photo editing software. but i'd give it a go out of courtesy. but i'd pass on giving comments on this coz it's basically artistic and all but lack creativity. what i meant is, u should have come up with a shape of textual effect. that'll justify the exclusivity. anyway, nice try. smile.gif

Wonderful shot and a very striking composition. Much more interesting than just an ordinary profile. I love the enigmatic mood which entice the whole feeling of the event. It really makes the shot. i feel like i'm in the picture. good one! thumbup.gif

a very good use of Photo editing software. nonetheless, there's not much to say about this pic.

one nice slow sync flash. but u should have compliment it with a good expression on the subject's face. overall it looks dull but very creative on the technical side. very original and good composition.

OOF light trail and very random movement. not very much impressive. but good effort there.

nice treble shape. this is what i've been looking. creativity renders exclusivity. nicely done. i've seen this attempt before at gengjurnal.biz in 2005.

what can i say more. one of our best photographers here. never fail to impress me with your shooting style. credits to your wild imagination and creativity. i love it. a very tight runner up i presume. the only downside criteria is the subjects face. it would be nicer if it's a close up. the face are pretty much messed up by the light trails.

all in all, an apple to my eye. the streak of the light being modified to carve a certain shape is the best appeal. the metering and compo is also perfect. kudos!
QUOTE(orenzai @ Jul 14 2008, 10:56 PM)

this is your 2nd entry but i'll comment on it. eventhough it's taken using a PNS, but it still appear to be a perfect slow sync flash where the subject doesnt ghost along with the light streaks. i simply like it but i seem not understanding what the whole picture is all about. a very good try of slow sync flash here. nod.gif
QUOTE(bombx @ Jul 14 2008, 11:37 PM)

hmm.. the subject is not well contrasted and became an artifact along with the prolonged exposure. the brightness somehow kills my eyes and i dont know what to look at. better try next time bro.

a good runner up. it looks like the hand is being cut and pasted on the pic. that's how slow sync flash should be. clear subject with light streaks all over. and the flare of the lamp seems to be made out of a long exposure. a good combo on both. but it lacks colours and being singularly accustomed to one color, it doesnt appeal much to me. but still, 3rd place next to shiney and razuryza. biggrin.gif

what can i say more. A WINNER INDEED! clean subject, variety of colours and simply dabomb! laugh.gif i luv it i luv it i luv it.

ahhh.. OOF BOKEH. but still not creative enuff. u should have made it a modified bokeh (with multiple shapes) and combine it with slow sync flash of your gf's face perhaps? that'll look nicer.

the subject is too far. it would look nicer if it's closer. anyhow this is what it seems to be a slow sync flash from afar. a good example. thanx for following the guide. nice effort.

thanx for reminding. basic crop and resizing is allowed. but make sure your exif data is still there.

actually there's a loophole for extensive editings that remains the exif data. u only need to flatten the layers and save it. that's why i dont encourage editings as it could involve cheating.

Good title. thumbup.gif .will definately put our skills to the max (not just editing skills anymore.). just hope that there wont be another PNS moments posted here, which brings me to a question: is it posibble for ordinary pns cams to get this kind of effects? since i think dslr will definately have more chances on getting these kind of shots..

ah...such thing can be accepted.... i always delete off what is blurred off...

Certain PNS can do slow sync flash. I have done it before on the G9. And classifying not-so-ideal shots as PNS shots is a bit generalizing, don't you think? Some PNS users can do wonders smile.gif

IMHO that's an example of long exposure.. smile.gif

btw, just to clarify on my last statement, i do not/never intend to classify not-so-ideal shots as PNS shots.. nooo.. PNS moments (in my case) refer to "point and shoot" moments which can be achieveable even by dslr if u just..hey, point..and shoot... and nvr think of anything(composition).. biggrin.gif that's what i meant by that.. my apology if u get me wrong on that.. reallly really sorry.i'm lousy at phrasing sentences.. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

so, in this case, dslr will have better chances of getting this particular kind of effect/shots with the usage of an external flash gun/have features that enable the users to slow sync the flash instead of using built in flash as in PNS.. dont ya think? hmm.gif but anyway, its definately up to the TS.. me just giving some idea (kacau abit.. hehe...).. jagan mara.. hehe biggrin.gif

dunno...

that's not quite right. that's more like slow shutter. this competition is to benefit and make full use of your aperture or Av mode. but anyway, u can cancel that entry and post a new one anyway during the submission period.

cheers.
