One thing about this is the design more clean unlike the EEE pc (Old design) where the screen is like squashed into a square with the sides protruding outwards. Overall nice design, 8/10

Should reach Malaysia sometime in July. I'm expecting end of July the earliest. The first batch is expected to be shipped on 27th of June albeit with only 3 cell battery because of battery shortage.
Hope this info help.

how they add the ram? open the whole chassis?
IIRC.. soldered onboard is 1GB.. and there is a sodimm slot for upgrading ram.. can put 2GB sodimm for a total of 3GB ram?

Definitely not 3-cell. Nobody has seen a retail 6-cell version in any part of the world yet, i guess.
Probably you would need to wait until September. No kidding.

Mine was a black linux one, which they changed to an XP version. Was 1899 I believe, added another gb of ram(rm80) came to a total of RM1970 after a little haggling. If you didn't mind pink or blue colors, you can get it cheaper, or even head to computer wars... but I wouldn't quite recommend it, since their service was pretty horrible, or I would have gotten the blue one there.

Bought the black unit MSI Wind last weekend.
When just bought it...the boot-up time is around 40 seconds but after installed Avast and few others program....the boot-time increase to around 80 seconds.
Since the XP is the FULL pre-loaded version, I decided not to install the Nlite version.
So far....I'm really impress with Wind.....lots of pros BUT only 1 major downside is the battery life.
With Wifi on and surfing and ECO mode....i can get around 2 hours only.....
Without WiFi, it can last 2.5 hours
Really need to purchase the 6 cell once it's being release in the market somewhere in Sept or Oct.
This will of course boost the battery life on WiFi surfing to at least 4.5 hours (5200mAh) or without WiFi for 6 hours (5200mAh)

Yes...of course you can.
At the moment all MSI Wind selling globally comes with 3 cell.
The MSI Wind 6 cell will be released earliest by Sept.
MSI Wind has confirmed that they will release the 6 cell battery once there's enough supply as there's worldwide shortage of laptop battery due to the fire incident at the LG Chem (2nd largest laptops battery manufacturer in South Korea).
Once out, you can purchase the 6 cell battery individually although the price will be costly (maybe around RM300 - RM400)
Same case for Acer Aspire One which been release last week and comes standard with 6 cell).
But Eee PC 901 which comes with standard 6 cell although Eee PC 901 shipped out in a limited quantity.
Singapore just officially starts selling 901 since last weekend. No idea when 901 will be sold in Malaysia although price has been officially announced at RM1699*

New wind owner reporting in, am typing on it right now infact

Strangely most stores in imbi are now selling it for 1999. I looked around real hard and found one store selling for 1799, without windows.
Is anyone else annoyed at the placement of the fn key on the lower left side, where the ctrl key ought to be? I'm gonna try to get some 3rd party software to remap the keys, i keep hitting fn when i want ctrl.

Hi Mr. Crazy,
Do you have problems with the:
1. Wifi
2. Fan making noises
3. hard disk making noises.
4. Fingers feel cramped?
1-3 I heard from some people complaining. Number four is my biggest concern.
Crazymalaysian
Jul 18 2008, 07:16 PM
1. So far nope wifi's been fine for me. What wifi related problems have others had?
2. My fan's silent, no noise.
3. Hard drive's silent but the hard drive vibration is quite noticeable.
4. My hands are quite big, but I'm adjusting quite well to this keyboard. Just the placement of the left fn key (on the lower left, where the ctrl key should be) annoys the hell out of me.
Btw I think it should also be noted that the turboclock feature (or whatever it's actually called) which overclocks the processor to 1.9Ghz has been disabled on all msi winds because of instability fears.

If the computer fails to boot, turn it off, open it up and make sure the DIMM is properly inserted. If it is properly inserted, the DIMM you're using may be incompatible with the system. Remember that the system cannot accomodate more than 2GB in total and it already has either 512MB or 1GB preinstalled. So if you try to install a 2GB or larger DIMM, the system won't start.

Yeah, couldn't find the overclocking feature as well on my Wind.
But no wifi problems for me. Maybe a link to the issue can be found? So far, it works VERY well with all the hotel's wifi in chicago. Even with Bluetooth on (for my headset and mouse), wifi has no problems.
I can't hear any fan noise, unless i'm in a REALLY REALLY quiet room, which is rare in a noisy city like Chicago.
Will put the Wind to the ultimate test when I'm in Disneyland california in like, 2 days time.

They removed the overclocking function. Its now an UNDERCLOCK function (1.6 -> 900mhz).
The overclock function was only available to preview/review models. Final release only has underclock.
Crazymalaysian
Jul 18 2008, 11:05 PM
According to what I've read on the msiwind.net forums, the latest BIOS firmware disables the turboclock feature because of some instability issues faced. I was really frustrated when I kept hitting fn+f10 and when i checked the clock speed it remained at 1.6Ghz. Almost went back to the store to ask them to replace, lol.

MSI says hopefully the next BIOS revision will fix this issue and we'll have the overclock feature again.

Well, maybe, someone who used the pre-release versions can also release that bios firmware. Not that it really matters to me really. I haven't seen much of a slowdown on my Wind yet. But then again, I haven't really used any intensive programs.
And the OC is only like 200mhz faster. Wouldn't really wanna risk OCing it when MSI themselves say theres instability.
