Hey I am not quite good in using Photoshop. Anyone knows how to add in a background to a pic?
For example a city background when you're actually in school?

create new doc, copy the background image and paste into the new doc. then, put yourr pic on the top of the background. finished.

Photomerge, I use for this situation.
-Merge two photo, keep the layer seperated.
-move the background layer to the back.
-Select designated area(the main object) using lasso tool, select inverse, erase the default background.
-You will see the background you want.
-Adjust the main object position to fit the background.
Works for me but took quite a time. I'm still learning after all.

the key to master photoshop is to knows the functions of every tool within the programme.
Do more pieces, and you will eventually will master it.

the pen is good, but i rarely use it

I rarely have to use it, so I guess it depends on what you want to do in photoshop.
For the background and masking, I suggest lasso, eraser and blending options.
you might also want to use the lighting effects and play with the colors, brightness and contrast to make it match.

pay attention to the resolution between the two picture you want to merge, different resolution can make one of them pixelate a bit especially when you resize them... just as djzen said here, lasso and eraser really help.
lock the background too =)

I'm afraid you have to buy it. Photoshop is not a freeware. Discussing about something like this is in fact illegal. If you are searching for something similar, try openCanvas which would have a shareware version.
