3DMark06 FAQ

Q: When looped a number of times, some tests in 3DMark suddenly end and the benchmark closes. What is the problem here and how can it be corrected?
A: This problem may occur if 3DMark runs out of one or more system resources during the benchmark run. Ensure that you use the latest available display drivers is recommended. Close any unnecessary applications and background processes including unnecessary applications in the system tray may also help on some systems.

Q: 3DMark06 freezes during the startup splash-screen, what is wrong and how can I fix this?
A: This problem can most likely be corrected by installing this HotFix: http://www.futuremark.com/download/hotfix_oct07/. If the Oct07 HotFix does not correct the problem, you can work around this issue either by renaming the "Direcpll.dll" file (found in %WINDIR%system32FuturemarkMSC) to something else, or you can run the benchmark using the -nosysteminfo command line option. Please note that if you use the -nosysteminfo command line option, you will not be able to publish the result online.

Q: When running 3DMark06 version 1.1.0 in Vista 64bit, I get an "OpenAL.dll" error message. What is wrong and how can this be corrected?
A: Since 3DMark06 is primarily supported only for 32bit versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista, this is a known issue under Vista 64bit. You can correct this problem by downloading the latest OpenAL installer and installing it manually. Q: I'm trying to update my 3DMark06 Advanced to the latest build 1.1.0, but the patch reports that it can't find the current installation. I've received my 3DMark06 Advanced licese bundled with an ASUS motherboard or graphics adapter.
A: Unfortunately the build 1.1.0 patch installer does not work with the 3DMark06 build included with ASUS products. The problem can be corrected by first uninstalling the current version of 3DMark06 and then downloading and installing 3DMark06 Free Edition build 1.1.0. After this you can enter your registration code and unlock your 3DMark06 Advanced features.

Q: I have purchased the Advanced Edition, but I get a "IDirect3DDevice9:Clearfailed:Invalid call" error message when I try to run the Filter & AA Tool. What is wrong?
A: This is a known issue in 3DMark06 Build 1.1.0 (both Windows XP and Windows Vista) and will be fixed in a later patch. Unfortunately there is no work-around for it.

Q: 3DMark06 exits or causes a bluescreen error whenever I try to launch it. How can this be corrected?
A: Try un-plugging any external USB/FireWire storage devices such as DVD-drives or external harddisks. Some network-attached storage devices may also cause this problem to appear, so unmounting all network drives might also help. You can also add "-nosysteminfo" at the end of the "Target:" field of 3DMark06's application shortcut to disable the SystemInfo from running when the benchmark is being launched. This should allow you to run all of the tests normally, but your results can't be submitted to the ORB if this option has been used to launch the benchmark.

Q: Nothing happens when I try to start the installer for 3DMark06 or I receive an error message such as a "catastrophic error" or "component transfer failure. How can this be corrected?
A: This problem is usually caused by an incomplete or corrupted installation file, so re-downloading should help. Please also ensure that your system is free from viruses and malware as this kind of malicious software can cause the installer or the download process to fail. Ensure that all unncessary applications are closed before launching the installer.

Q: I'm getting a "System Info error: WMI Enumeration not found" or a "System Info error: Wbem not connected" error message when starting the benchmark. How can this be corrected?
A: This problem occurs on some systems and we're currently investigating the cause. There are a couple of things which may help: 1) Ensure that you have the latest available motherboard BIOS installed. 2) If you have created a custom Windows XP installation CD or manually disabled standard services, please ensure that "Management Instrumentation (WMI)" service is installed and configured to run. You can also use the "-nosysteminfo" command line option to disable the SystemInfo from running. This will prevent you from submitting your results to the ORB, though.

Q: I receive a "STOP 0x0000010E" error message during a benchmark run with 3DMark06 on a Windows Vista-based computer, how can this be corrected?
A: This problem may occur on some hardware configurations due to a recently discovered software problem in the OS.
