There are two version of 4870x2, which is the 2GB and 1GB ones. From what i understood after look thought all the review, the 1GB of 4870x2 are far from beating 280GTX. in fact, its a bit behind 280GTX!
People are so hype about the 4870x2 they fail to see all the card that beat 280GTX is actually 4870x2 2GB. of course the 2GB is waaaaaay more expensive than 280GTX, heck after the nvidia price slash 280GTX is cheaper than the 1GB version, with identical/slightly better performance!
IMHO the 4870x2 2GB only beats 280GTX with sheer brute force, 2 die and extra ram. Viewing from another angle, the 280GTX is more power efficient, and put up a really good performance only using 1dice and 1GB of memory.
So nvidia fans REJOICE! NVIDIA IS FAR FROM DEFEAT! Anyone with me?

The FUD mention about the possible configuration. But the release and benchmark of 4870x2 1gb gddr5 is nowhere to be seen.
Other than this, the sku might be scarce which is almost non-available for the mass.

In order to get scores for single-GPU HD 4870 X2, I disabled one device in Windows Device Manager. These scores are interesting because they show how a 1024 MB GDDR5 HD 4870 would perform. The normal HD 4870 has only 512 MB of GDDR5.
... that obviously not 4870x2 1gb gddr5 since the other chip and frame buffer is entirely disable. That only show a projected result of future sku (4870 1gb gddr5).
