aaa just bought HD3870... izzit worth putting aside my moolah for this, or keep my gc and wait HD 5xxx series? sori noob question...

GTX 280 sure a beasty core around, even larger than old GTX. They should just use 55nm instead.

G80 and G92 both have "only" 128 SPs vs the RV670 which has 320. What makes you think 480 will beat 240?

more sp doesnt mean more powerful.take 4 example the previous gen card from nv n ati...i admit i did confuse about this b4 but real life benchmark or games prove it all.

Sorry to break your heart , but the R770 512mb versions is meant to vs with nvidia's 9800gtx. Based on the news so far , GTX 280 suppose to be a major improvement over the latest nvidia series. Unless its all a marketing gimmick la. So lets just wait till the benchmarks out and see will the GTX 200 series will really perform or not.

AFAIK maybe they mixed up the model names because the price stated is HD4850 price which is $229

stream processors and pipelines cannot be compared for performances with both companies as both companies' design is different from each other. this can be seen with present cards.
Mayb because nvidia works side by side with game developer? Which makes their card work better in most games.

And again we can see 4870X2 might outperform in multigpu optimized games. Or if it does not, GTX 280 will be once again like 8800GTX means it will last longer.

So 10 clusters it is, nVidia apparently thinks that spare units are useless.
The 550+mm^2 die seems to be quite big though, considering Charlie D. reports that GT200b is just barely over 400+mm^2.
