Thanks for the review.

Honestly, for me, this card is not worth for your investment. In 2 years time, what has it become?

However some of us might have enough time to enjoy those 2 years with this card smile.gif

anyway. Still waiting for comparison with ATI
merzchan
the lifespan for 9 series card really short.
less than few month already outdate & replace with gtx 200 series.
since gtx 280 & 9800gx2 performance about the same, what really impress me is the CUDA calculation.
dlwl
maybe 9 series is just a stepping stone for the gtx200 series. most of the 9 series is just a refreshed/rebadged version of 8 series cards. probably introduced 9 series to keep their market going. so far the price and performance of this card is really dissapointing. just waiting for them to come out with one that can repeat 8800GT's reputaion. price thumbup.gif performance also thumbup.gif

lucky for me i didn't buy it. May be now have to wait for direct X11?

efficient?
the power comsumption is more or less the same with 9800gx2..
just that it is able to go lower voltage when it is at idle
apart from that, based on the reviews, GTX200 is noisy le..more noisy than the 9800gx2 when it is under full load due to the fan need to cold down the gpu unsure.gif
it does not support DX10.1 =.= ..
if it is less heat and less power comsumption, it will be good,
perhaps it is driver problem causes the performance to be not so good?

expensive is another issue, haih .. for performance/price better go for 9800gx2.... or see how ATI gonna perform with its 4000 series

based on nvidia website.. minimum requirement of 550W PSU is needed to run this GTX280 and 500W PSU for GTX260

Not efficient means that the card perform slower than the specification. According to the spec, it has 240 stream processors, which is around 9800GX2's number of stream processor (256). It should perform just like a 9800GX2, and the power consumption should be around the same as the GX2. Efficiency and worth are two different things.

It should be "It's not worth what you're paying".

GTX 260 will be a better buy than GTX 280. It's much cheaper than 280 but it performs decently.
SlayerXT
At GTX 260 price can buy 4850 crossfire already. doh.gif Sure ATi attacks Nvidia for price/performance.

hehe... what i mean by "not efficient" is ...
u know 9800x2 is older generation technology right?
the gtx280 should improve/lower the power comsumption and the performance, another words, improve the performance per watts
performance per watt should be improved for each new genration coming up..
or else it is no point for the existence of new generation if efficiency did not increase.

yea price another matter
this gtx280 seems like having double failure...
1 is the price.. and another 1 is overall performance

i have a 8800GT now...and this card is a definite upgrade for me...
i have dual 22inch monitor now which i plan to probably upgrade to a 24inch later on...

from the price point...well...it is expensive but it's definitely an upgrade in computational prowess.
i remembered when i bought the 8800 GTS 640mb version cause almost all the reviews were raving mad about it (especially the 320mb version) saying it's so much cheaper than the GTX and yet performs great. I should have gotten the GTX in retrospect. Yes the 8800 GTX was expensive, but the lifespan of it was more than 2 years! And that's great to me.

This GTX 280 represents that to me. It's selling around 2300 - 2500 price point, but isn't that what the GTX and Ultra cost as well when they were first released?

p.s. Personally, i wouldn't get the 9800GX2 even now that it's cheaper and performs almost alike to the GTX280.

dude, i think the trend has changed after RV670 and G92 released.
launch price for both were ~rm800 yet they give really decent performance compare with top end card.
amd also saying they will concentrate more on mainstream market in the future.
that means the era where high end gc always cost around 2k is gone. nod.gif
zhinsara
to be frank i've never bought a card which is considered high end, like the 8800gtx. one way or another, the mid-range provided some excellent solutions for a 1/3 of the cost of a high end card.

true...and I'm not aiming for the mainstream market..
I want something I pay for that I can throw games at it at the highest setting as long as it allows me too..

Hmm I wonder if they'll make a GTX 280X2..

Yea, GTX280 is not worth the price now. Getting GTX 260 is a better choice.

The power consumption for GT200 series is good when idling or watching medias.
StratOS
waiting for GTX260 price.. i wanna sell my 8800gt la.. haha..

Yeah... why there is no Gtx260 review/news?
is there someone having this card on hand?
lets show off abit please...

there is some article says that GTX280GX2 is impossible with current GT200 architecture (65nm).

There is a chance for GT200b willg o for GX2, well...next year we will know about it tongue.gif

let us move to ati, make nvidia cry.gif
kaiser_falco
ultra launch also almost in that price range what, but frankly i really didnt see the performance boost/not up to my expectation on this so called NEXT GEN card..
this high end card only benefit user who use large display and gaming on 1920x1200 and above but only on a little margin from its previous gen...so might give this a miss for upgrade but on the other hand ati 4000 series seem like a good step up,if only that aa/af performance impact have been fix like rumours said...truthfully im not going to believe review 100%,this kind of thing you need to do the testing on your own..
afoaszuizm
I will buy this card when the price dropping kaw-kaw...

Not sure if this has been posted before. Its a very neat review of the Zotac GTX 280 AMP! by techpowerup IMO.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zotac/G..._Edition/1.html

Lower 3DMark06 score than the 9800GX2 but beats it in almost every game.

ah kinda suck... imight change to ATI end of July if ATI card bang nvidia kaw kaw

indeed.based on its spec alone,it was a monster.but all it did was just touch the 9800gx2.a performance level that we have seen.a refresh should give us a faster card by atleast 20-30%.but the 9 series was a total let down...now if the hd4870 performs as well as a hd3870x2,that just the same as the 9800gx2 and the gtx280.not much performance increase.but ati has an answer to it tho...the 4870x2.maybe if the 4870 is as good as rumoured, then the 4870x2 will be the card to kill nvidia...second place is the first place to last...

It's spec tells us that it should perform like a GX2 (from the number of SPs). It's great for a single GPU card to perform as good as a dual GPU card, except it's price is too expensive.

The 9-series are good in terms of price/performance. It basically let almost everyone to be able to afford a powerful GPU at a low price. IMO, it's a great series, especially for the 9600GTs.

I wonder if it's possible for NVIDIA to come out with a GTX280 X2 brows.gif then slash GTX280's price...

Maybe the driver and games nowaday din demand all the features from it make it seem not so good. Maybe in da future, games demand Physx technology and all, then we will know what is gem and what is 'kaca'. Till then, it just like we juz saw la... Juz my 2 cents... icon_rolleyes.gif
Federer
Yup physx technology is one one thing in this latest card. But to optimize game like crysis more performance is needed. More fps

They'll most probably reduce the chip size. The current chip size is not viable for their cost.

We already fed up with the future things. If the hardware dont perform now there is little to improve in the future like what happen to the R600. Maybe the other apps that benefit CUDA that u can see in the future.
area61
lets face it.its the best single gpu single card solution for now.it is a beast.price like one and a worthy replacement for the 8800gtx.the only problem was the9800gx2.i think if nvidia didnt manufacture 9800gx2,then the gtx280 would be in a better light.anyhow, dual gpu of the gtx 280 is not possible.check the reviews power consumption.man this chip needs heck a lot of power.if you want one, you have to invest in a very high end psu.

Maybe not that low, RM2000 is ok already. But It seems to lose badly to 4870 Crossfire later.

with current drivers and current game the gtx 280 even lose to the 88gt sli.. not to mention 4850 cf
but the prob is that intel sli mobo is expensive sweat.gif
