**~LYN Official National Basketball Association thread~**

user posted image

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is North America's premier professional men's basketball league, composed of thirty teams. It is an active member of USA Basketball (USAB), which is recognized by the International Basketball Federation as the National Governing Body (NGB) for basketball in the United States. The NBA is one of the four major North American professional sports leagues, which also includes the NHL, the NFL and MLB.

The league was founded in New York City, on June 6, 1946 as the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The league adopted the name National Basketball Association in the autumn of 1949 after merging with the rival National Basketball League. The league's several international as well as individual team offices are directed out of its head offices located in the Olympic Tower at 645 Fifth Avenue in New York City. NBA Entertainment and NBA TV studios are directed out of offices located in Secaucus, New Jersey.

Teams
The NBA originated in 1946 with 11 teams, and through a sequence of team expansions, reductions, and relocations currently consists of 30 teams. The United States is home to 29 teams and one is located in Canada. The Boston Celtics have won the most championships, with 16 NBA Finals wins. The next most successful franchise is the Los Angeles Lakers, who have 14 overall championships (9 in Los Angeles, 5 in Minneapolis). Following the Lakers are the Chicago Bulls with six championships, all of them over an 8-year span during the 1990s. The San Antonio Spurs, who have won four championships since 1999, are the defending champions.

The current league organization divides thirty teams into two conferences of three divisions with five teams each. The current divisional alignment was introduced in the 2004-05 season.

2007–08 NBA season
The 2007-08 NBA season was the 62nd season of the National Basketball Association. The 1,230-game regular season (82 games for each of the 30 teams) began on Tuesday, October 30, 2007, and ended on Wednesday, April 16, 2008. The 2008 NBA Playoffs started on Saturday, April 19, 2008 and will run through mid-to-late June with the 2008 NBA Finals. The 2007 NBA Draft was held on June 28, 2007 and Greg Oden was selected first overall by the Portland Trail Blazers. However, he missed the entire season due to knee surgery.

This season was notable for being one of the most competitive Western Conference playoff races in NBA history. Up until April 4, 2008, not a single Western Conference team had secured a playoff spot, and the 8th seeded team was a mere 6.5 games behind the 1st seed. Additionally, the quality of the teams ensured that Golden State finished with the highest winning percentage of any non-playoff team in NBA history since the switch to the 8-team playoff format, beating out the 2000-2001 Houston Rockets. The all-time record is held by the 1971-1972 Phoenix Suns (49-33), which was during the 4-team playoff era.

Guys,
What is your take on the Boston Celtics - Cleveland Cavaliers matchup?
So far i think the Celtics should have the upper hand on the last game since it is going to be in Boston and the team are getting the hang of the playoffs now.
However the same goes to LeBron.
His stats has been improving over the games against the Celtics from the 1st game so he is starting to adjust to the Celtics defense.

In this series, the home team doesn't lose? Head says Celtics, heart says Cavaliers. BTW, when's 3.30 ET?! I want to stream NOH vs SAS!

Well it is the Celtics we are talking about.
Which team in the league is stronger than them at home, other than the Jazz tongue.gif
They prove themselves to be a totally different team when they are at home to the road.

Oh, fans of the Spurs eh.
The Spurs are a great team. A deep bench with experienced players to balance up the whole team.
And sometimes you just find it hard to explain how a team as good as the Spurs can struggle against the inexperienced Hornets in the playoffs.

Celtics will really need to play team basketball in the game later.
Seen them do it and they were unstoppable when they play as a team.
Look at the regular season and you know how much they love to share the ball.
But now, somehow they started to play selfishly at times and they were numerous times during the transition that they can get the ball in but failed due to selfish plays.
Breaktru
Haha yea , last time I used to follow Spurs as Lakers can't make it to the very end . I kinda like how Ginobili and Parker's play .

As for Celtics , yea it may be filled with stars , but team work is equally important . Selfish play really ruin the game but somehow , I believe with the crucial game 7 , they will play better basketball .
-Jonathan-
I can't believe that luck can bring me to encounter a spurs fan here.
Well i as long as i can remember, it has always been Anti-Spurs > Spurs fan.

Seeing NoH winning this series makes me real jaded.

On one hand, i want NoH to win

On the other, i want Lakers to NOT win this season's playoff

Spurs is definitely much more experienced to do so, and has the team to do it.

One must wonder, how long can David West and Peja's hand hold on. NoH's depth is as pathetic as Jabba the Hutt.

Rewind this discussion 3 months, i will still predict a Lakers vs Celtics final. And it's still going to be the same forecast

Catching the Celtics - Cavaliers game?
I thought i was the only one here catching it at such a late hours.
Time saving in OZ so it should be 5.30AM there eh.

Doc gave the starting fireworks task to Pierce.
Wonder how the Cavaliers will respond to it.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Eddie House is such a fantastic gunner.
Wonder why Doc didnt really play him during the early playoff games.
Eddie is definitely one of the Celtics trump card.
His let go is so fast that before you know it, the ball already went into the basket on the 3.
matt85
Here catching the game as well. Very hard game for both sides, hard fouls out there. But the score is surprisingly close even though Cavs shooting, what 30+% ?
Still too close to call for Celtics. Eddie House so 'semangat' chasing lost cause biggrin.gif
-= Virgil =-
The Cavaliers should just get the ball to James and let him handle the rest.
The other players are really in no form to play at all!
ferricide
Team effort needed, dun think 1 player can turn the whole thing around unless he's everywhere at the same time.
-= Virgil =-
1 point game with 2 minutes to go!
The Celtics are starting to fall apart.
Fatigue catching up?!
Pierce did play almost every minute of the game today.
Finally, all i can say to the Celtics win today is Lady Luck is smiling at them.
home game win 4 boston.. next stop, motor city..
No.
The next stop will still be in Boston.
Whoever has the higher place will gets home court advantage smile.gif
Which is why being No.1 is so important.
Well, provided they win every round eh laugh.gif
Next up NOH vs. Spurs.
I'm for CP3 at home to go through.
It's amazing how they hold Duncan to below 20 pts for the whole series.
It was Pierce vs James one on one the whole night biggrin.gif
-= Virgil =-
The Cavaliers actually stood a good chance in winning.
If Pierce missed that last free throw, they might have a chance to force OT.
James has the hot hand and West can basically sink the 3 point easily.
For those who didnt catch the game, people were saying that Auerbach chip that last ball into the basket.
And if you guys check the replay, indeed the ball shouldnt have went in but then it just bounce off the back of the basket and into the net.
Pierce himself admit that he didnt feel good with the release and he thought that he was gonna missed it.
Tough luck for the Cavaliers.
damn i was hoping cavs to win cuz statistics shows that west > cavs but boston > west..... If cavs goes to final, its unlikely they will beat the west, but if boston procede to final, its likely they can beat the west :S i am really hoping Lakers will win this.
I got a bit confused with the west > cavs boston > west thing but i guess you are trying to imply that the Western team would be better than Cavaliers and the Celtics are better than the Western team.
All i can say is that, the Celtics are nowhere near Western teams standard.
Just look at how the Celtics are struggling in the playoffs now.
2 round and both of them bringing it to Game 7.
They arent ready yet.
I totally agree with you.
Detroit is the best example.
At the start they play around with the Sixers and lost a game at home.
Then they respond with a win at Philadelphia to take the lead and finish it at home later.
Next is Orlando.
Which they basically crushed them totally.
-Nos-
Ginobili 3s give Spurs a 10 pts lead in the first half..
-Jonathan-
What a way to end the first half.
Chris Paul with a magnificent lay up aye
-= Virgil =-
The Hornets are just missing too many open looks.
What is with Stojakovic missing that shot way off the basket with just Parker in front of him?!
It was a mismatch and yet he shot an air ball.
Spurs are doing a good job on the offense.
Even without Tim Duncan, the Spurs can always play small with Finley and Parker on backcourt.
It is as deadly as ever.
EroS
looks like lakers r gonna face spurs in da western finals.. its gonna b an interesting match up..
-= Virgil =-
Hornets just couldnt finish off the series.
They stand a very good chance but they just miss too many shots.
Too many.
While the Spurs on the other side sink 12 3 pointers!
That is a total of 36 points.
Poor Hornets.
Losing their biggest game at home, what else could be worst of for them.
Yea, i mean the statistics in regular seasons shows that celtics usually overpower the western team and cavaliers usually lost to the western teams. But that was regular season, not playoff....
Damn, spurs won...
myhotgary2
lakers - spurs... hard to pick between this 2..but looking at the home influence this season, i would say slight advantage to lakers..
celtics - pistons...have to go with pistons..eventho they are not the team they were anymore, but they still ooze so much depth and experience...boston? depth? yea, experience? nah
sandcool
but spurs always will win silently
lakers vs spurs 50 50.....
lakers can win...diff stlye for play compare last time...
hope to watch final....boston vs lakers..
-= Virgil =-
Hoping for the Celtics to win against the Pistons but i have to say Pistons is the better team now.
For a team that crushed the mighty Orlando Magics, i mean how can you say that the Celtics are better when the green need to bring it to game 7 against the Cavaliers and Hawks.
Billups just said on that day during the Cavaliers - Celtics game that he is back 100% and ready to get onto the court anytime.
However when mentioned, which team he preferred to go against, he shy away from answering it.
Lakers and the Spurs.
Definitely Lakers.
Odom is such a fast player and i doubt that Duncan can really hold him down.
Just like how Boozer struggled against Odom, the same goes for Duncan.
And with Gasol at his side, you never know who the ball goes to.
Either way, the pressure is going to be on the Spurs.
Spurs might only have a slight advantage in backcourt.
Kobe might be there. But there is Manu, Bowen and Parker on the other side.
Bowen might not be good offensively but his defensive stance is really the best of the best.
theanswerL2
piston have very good expirience in playoff game...
celtic need to win champion...
ray allen already 3+
garnett also..
this is good chance to win it...
