Meh its not -that- scary although its interesting. I even tried to make it scarier by turning off all lights but > . >
acougan
well, if u just play the game like a normal game - move from point A to B and solve some puzzles, this game is kinda short (so mb waiting for 2nd hand copy is wise)

i feel the scare factor is there. play it in a quiet room and try to relate to the character in the game and u really feel dreadful and nervous. the vibration of the DS3, the spooky surround sound really makes my heart pounding in fear laugh.gif

for example, episode 3, u play 1 section as a weaponless and defenseless character ( this section will be much scarier if u don't rely on the map and sightjack too much)

then on the next section, u need to explore around to find a weapon to rescue somebody (awesome scene!)

what.............?
acougan
yes, this game is indeed very dark. some sections are pitch black when u switch off your torchlight cool2.gif

for those using HDMI, can try either fullRGB or limited to test which setting works better with your TV/LCD. inside the game options, u can increase the brightness setting too.

alot ppl complain this game is short and easy cos the game give u hints. the previous sirens were frustrating cos very little hints so need stumble around alot or use gamefaqs help.
shinjite
The visuals is kinda creepy and realistic man....sadly you guys say its short, pondering whether to get it or not when it comes out hmm.gif
doodleman
actually, fast or short depends on how u play it... for me, im the hardcore type, so i'm pretty good at gaming, which means i don't die easily, so takes me a shorter time to complete the chapters. but surprisingly, i let my fren play, he can take forever to finish chapter one lol.... he died so many times and still can't figure out how to tackle the shibito.... and he was like dead spooked, so he moved very VERY slowly, cos too dark and he's scared the shibitos are around the corners....

So, i agree with acougan, switch of the objectives tweeter and keep the map usage to a minimum. it'll render u as a blind man and will be much more scarier when u don't know ur whereabouts...

personally i like this game... although it's short (for me), i still can't wait to play it the second time.
acougan
yes, that's the different feeling i get from silent hill. i really thrilled by the weaponless sections.

when playing silent hill, u know there's always a "loading..." screen when u open doors, so when u feeling scared and running away, just go thru any unlocked door and the game will "pause" for awhile so u feel safer.

this game - no loading screens, once u are discovered and being hunted, its a most disturbing feeling.
Gurdian
i miss fatal frame

i just finish epi 07... suddenly there's a twist to the story at the end but i don know what cos it's showing what'll happen in epi 08.... i'm being mindfarked!!!

i don't want to play epi 08 so soon!!
acougan
u playing this game in broad day light?

i only play at night - 1 episode at a time is more than enough for me. after that, i play some sudoku to ease my tension. LoL
doodleman
bear in mind when i play in daytime, my window curtain is closed so the room is pretty dark..... hehe... i play one epi a day too, but since it's weekends, i played 2 epis per day. will play epi 08 tmr...... mgo time...
hairyLGS
Well, I finish Episode 5 and now going to do Episode 6... I like the way the game presents itself. There is "in the next episode" feature that gives you a glimpse of what's coming next... and it feels like a TV Mini-series sort that each episode ends with an unexpected outcome...

I don't know about you guys but "Siren: New Translation" is a total makeover, although some concept and story plot are similar to the original "Siren" PS2 version, this one is a thumbs up for me for "not being too difficult to play, but just the right balance with more scares" category for me. I like the PS2 version but I never manage to finish the game because of some tough situations where "sightjacking" can be so disorientating to any gamer trying to figure out where the Shibitoes are... at least "Siren: New Translation" gives us at least a split-screen idea where they are... for instance in the Saiga Hospital, there are 4 floors to explore and "sightjacking" is very useful to figure out where they are unlike the original "Siren" in PS2.

(The original "Siren" PS2 and the new "Siren: New Translation" for PS3).

About playing this game the second round, yes... there is a replay value in this game. If you finish this game by following the objectives and sub-objectives, you will miss out some Story based Achievements to get the whole entire story of this game. So far, this is what I have collected after finish Episode 5:-

Story:

1). The Sacred Revelations (can be extended)
2). Video Camera
3). Howard Wright's Student ID
5). TV Episode Proposal
6). Melissa Gale's Cell Phone
7). Sam Monroe's Faculty ID
11). Bella Monroe's Diary (can be extended)
13). Melissa Gale's Locket
14). Sol Jackson's Press Badge
16). Amana's Diary
17). Seigo Saiga's Driver's License
20). Seigo Saiga's Notebook
21). Yukie Kobe's Planner
22). Mana Cross Brooch

The Story based Achievements total is 50... so you have to fully explore each episode to discover each and every one of them.

There is also Weapon based Achievements too (also total 50):-

2). Hand Rake
3). Iron poker
7). Alto Recorder
13). Bowling Trophy
15). Hand Sickle
17). Hacksaw
18). Froe Axe
20). Scalpel
21). Kitchen Knife
24). Metal Pipe
25). Shovel
39). Sake Bottle
44). .38 Caliber Handgun
45). Double-Barreled Shotgun
48). Hunting Trap
49). Signal Flare

Some Weapons based achievement can be found easily and added to your achievements while other items you need to look for it (you need to hold the items in order to add them... I missed out the White Guitar)...

Sorry, these are not Trophies for PS3... but who knows, if Sony suddenly got a new update for this game, there will be Trophies for it... so keep looking.

Playing the game by following the story will end the game faster... hence, how short this game can be... but if you explore the area of each episode, it extends the gameplay a little longer. So this game actually is worth playing a little longer...

I prolly will get this game tomolo... along with Folklore I think...

You might not like Folklore... I thought Folklore was nice... but after a while... it can be repetitive... the graphics also like PS2... try out the demo first...

okay.. thx for advise..

Problem with this game is, the enemies resemble zombies. Fatal Frame is scarier because the enemies are spirits. I think zombies are one of the most not scary supernatural beings.
doodleman
i hope there will be extra DLC for this game like encore episodes or extra missions to further understand the plot.

hairy, wait till u finish epi 07.... it's sure to give u a "WTF?!" moment....

the bonus music CD was part of a JPN pre-order program. Asia version don't have.

Added on

edit: ok, i was mistaken, the music CD was given out at certain participating shops (at least in HK) not sure if any SGP gamers got it too.

er, finish episode 2, not very long either, but quite suspenseful

As for the music CD, u can find it in KL also but I so far onli found it in LYP 3rd floor where there's a game kiosk at the centre and they are selling it for RM190... As for other shops there, there's no music CD given and they are selling for RM200....

Yes if you buy from PSN US... but the downloading time depending on the broadband you use and the free space available will take up much of your space... so I suggest but the Asia version...

"look some some old map" - what kind of stupid hint was that vmad.gif

after stumbling here and there, went to gamefaqs msgboard for help whistling.gif

yes, the scare factor is getting lesser and lesser. sections where u have a weapon to protect yourself is no longer scary. i look forward to the story twist that is gonna occur soon.

Hahaha... at least this game is quite looking forward to in finishing it... just hope by the time reaching 12... the ending is good (unlike most Japanese horror genre movies, it always turns up bad)

It's too short. I finished the game in 11 hours. The ending song is the best though. Shibito singing metal 8D

anyone playing this game played the original PS2 version? how close of a remake is this?

i played through the first one, still contemplating about getting this one..... while i like the sight-jack from the original, i didn't really enjoy the timeline jumping around cos i went through the timeline twice without getting any ending. cry.gif

then i realised that you have to do certain events in each timeline to "trigger" new events and timeline from appearing otherwise you will just be going around in the same loop playing the same events over and over again..... is this one like that?

This game is pretty much straight-forward if you ask me... there are some things you need to do and there are two ways to finish this game:-

1). Follow the storyline
2). Follow the storyline and finish getting the 50 items and 50 weapons achievement

So far, I like this sight-jacking better than the original. The storyline is basically a concept similarity but there are some changes into it. It's darker in terms of exploring places, but once you get the hang of it, it should be no problem.

At the beginning, it is scary... but later once you get a hold of a weapon, everything just seems fall into place.

Update:-

http://kotaku.com/5032720/siren-blood-curs...ming-to-blu+ray

After much respond about Siren: Blood Curse download from PSN Store... now Sony wants to release the game into a Blu-Ray disc. They should have done it in the first place... not that I am complaining but pity those who really download the entire game...

Well aside the graphic upgrade, like there will be blood almost every part you attack, although i like the 'real face' scan in the original..almost every part got as same as PS2 version

the dialog is quite better and more realistic not like the original where everyone talk in Eroupean, even for japanese character hmm.gif

there some part i like as in the original..like (spoiler warning) Harumi, original char replace with new char. Bella, stuck in shibito residence. These part still suspenceful and add new suprise in the 2nd floor.

is me or the shibito is funny? esp the flying one..i LOL'ed everytime i meet these guys
Gurdian
Guys, I'm confused...

is this game available on Bluray?

if it is, does it contain all 12 episodes or are there expansions thru PSN?

edit: OK, found the answer, it is available in Bluray. all 12 eps.

Actually... nobody thought this game would sell so well...

Furthermore, with PSN US making a good profit from Playstation Store lots of people download from, it takes up a lot of space in it...

Japan selling like hot cakes...
