Thanks to Vincent that keep organising model shoots notworthy.gif

I hope everyone and speak out on what they had learn during the shooting.

Here is what I had learn from previous shooting in Pekiling Flat;

(1) Wireless Flash -> It just rock. No longer need to depends on Sun and avaiable light...

(2) Umbrella -> Also rock! It beat all diffuser for direct flash. Some more can concentrate to the subject rather than lighting up all room

(3) Nissin flash gun -> It suck! Not being sensitive enought to infra red transmiter over longer distance. So better get few orignal flash guns.

(4) ST-E2 -> Very useful. Everyone from Canon should get one. If you have one 580EX II and one ST2. Combine with another one or two members, everyone can shoot at the same time... no constraits on switching flash gun as transmitter. And the weight of ST-E2 is so light and fantastic...

(5) Buy tall tripod -> It help for wireless flash when bouching the model. Or else must ask the model lower themselve.

(6) Make sure enought battery -> I had used my ST-E2 for a year. And guess what? It run out of juice during my shooting half way... And I do not have spare battery. So it is as good as being useless. Because I never change battery, and have the mentality that no need to change battery... cry.gif So remember, always got spare battery for everything.

(7) Have some imagination, do have planning and composition in mind. This is what I learn from vadho who has the best pictures from the event. My style of no brainer and keep shooting is just not right... cry.gif

(8) Battery pack for flash gun. Can consider buying... So you can forget about changing battery. I think with 12AA on my 580EX, my flash gun still performing fine for the whole day shooting... sharing by everyone... thumbup.gif

(9) You need some fun people to create atmosphere... People like MyJunk... thumbup.gif

(10) Try to communicate and talk to models... Those relationship help getting better pictures. Ask thier opinions and ideals as well.. thumbup.gif

So how about others? Do share ya.... notworthy.gif

1) Wireless flash -> first time trying this, loads of fun and educational
2) Reference photos a must -> bring some magazine etc, actually got some in my laptop, but too ma fan to take out and refer everytime coz we move around. Put in myjunk's iphone the best biggrin.gif
3) Battery pack for flash gun -> every flash use as slave must have one otherwise some won't recycle fast enough, very important when there arae a few ppl triggering the flash

can't think of any now, some already mention by VOIP biggrin.gif
gogo2
Wah, wireless flash so fun. Since cheapest route to wireless flash is Sony A200, so theVOIP also agreed Sony A200 is the best budget camera? Since no need sun, no need good noise reduction. tongue.gif P:

Even for normal fashion show also can use... So can consider getting one.. thumbup.gif

Actually to be frank, I do not think the A200 pass the basic image quality. Even at normal ISO400 to ISO640, the details are already gone. And it certainly not for me because I am sensitive to image quality.

Sometime I felt Sony image quality also being bottlenet to thier great optics like Zeiss 85 f1.4. I mean what's the point of having such great optic where the sensor or internal processing spoilting them? And I also fail to get a single sharp picture with 135 f1.8 at wide open.... Well... maybe it is user fault... But with Canon similar 135L, user experinces are very good. Not to mention at half the price only. cool2.gif

But I do agree A200 is very affordable... But it also might be a trap... Sound like can save some money now... But will soon regret... sweat.gif

I don't know whether to believe what you're saying. You have to stop talking like this. Unless
of course you come out with the proof.

Can you take photo with A200 and 400D and compare side by side with crop and with the same
condition? Else, maybe its just your feeling brows.gif

Actually you also given us the proof that image quality with Sony indeed got problem. Remember you post the URL for image comparison... I had similar problem on A200.

And tell you what, on actual image where there are more mid-tone details, the lost of details are even worst than what being posted. The poster was bias and choosing high-constrast stuff to avoid letting people seeing the lost details... But still image are clearly blurred even at the basic ISO400.... shakehead.gif

Anyway, I hope we can get back to the topic... cool2.gif

That's not A200. That's 14MP A350. So you still have no proof. You better come out with proof before
you continue posting such remarks in other thread.

Last Sunday I learn
1) Nissin flash's wireless receiver is very insensitive. I must be very near to the flash and the angle have to be direct.
2) 85mm f/1.2L can make junk look like colours.
3) ST-E2 does not run on AA. This actually sucks. tongue.gif
4) Bring drinking water
5) Get at least 8GB of memory card

3) ST-E2 does not run on AA. This actually sucks. tongue.gif

Here some of my comments;

Initially when I first bought mine. I was dissapointed on this part. Nothing beat rechargable right?

But then later after some thought... The 2CR5 is actually very light weight... and surely much lighter than 2x AA. And the light weight do contribute to the comfortable of shooting a lot. And one piece of battery also can last pretty long... because I had never changed mine for a year... biggrin.gif

Anyway, I will get 2 pieces as one for backup soon.

If want to make the unit even lighter... might have to get mercury cells liao... but then not sure enought juice to power the transmitter or not... So after some thoughts... And even if I involve in the design of ST-E2 mark II, might either use 1x AAA or remain the same battery.

I disagree on this. Being a photographer, the true greatness is when you can make a normal subject stunning.
That's the true greatness. If already stunning, then no one will even notice the difference.

Each model will have their own characteristics/mannerism. We must be able to use that to our advantage and paint the picture.
For me, what I look for in a model is the eyes. The eyes tells a lot of things to the outside observer since he/she is not there. So the eyes must be able to convey the message for you.

You help them look their best so that you can take the BEST!

sure all the gals will come and see one. I know you fellas will not 'pong cheong" one.

Yeah.. we used Vincent's 5in1 reflector.

I used to think that gold reflector would be good to enhance the model's skin-tones, but ended up the gold, _too_ gold already. So, we used the silver one instead.

I've tried using car silver sunshade also. That one also not bad. can be used.

I scan through my photo... And found Sigma 30 f1.4 that I borrow from Mengsuan is a good performacer.

So far only 2 things can complait on the lense;

+ A bit easier to flare...
+ Do not have L color. Yeah... I tried to adjust color balance and even increase color saturation... But no matter what I tried, I cannot get the color from 85L nor 70-200L. Maybe I am not experinced in those raw conversion... maybe in order to get similar result is not simple... have to break into different channel of color and process and re-combine... Or maybe just spend the money on 35L and solve the problem... But 35L is very expensive.... If pay the money just for the color might be foolish, right?

I am not saying the Sigma color are lousy... Even canon EFS10-22 and EFS17-55 f2.8 do not have the L color also... Maybe I am so used to the L color.... sweat.gif

Anyone know how much is 35L new and used price? I started to like this focal length after trying out Mengsuan 30mm. I think I might need this focal length to change my composition variety. Or should I just use my 17-55? hmm.gif

There's a convenience shop nearby in one of the other flats nearer to the temple near the roundabout.

TheVOIP: Eh lasttime the picture you posted from the FEI Grand Prix horse race at ISO3200, I said the mids tenggelam. Meaning your mids had no details because they were dark.

Buy only la the 35mm L as ExposurePlot has recommended. smile.gif

And you can get the high-precision screen for your 40D so you WYSIWYG at around F1.7 in your viewfinder.

zio: Dunno if the Carl Zeiss look is his thing - dunno about your ZF but the ZAs are extremely contrasty even in OOF areas which may cause lost OOF mids. The resolving power is amazing, though.

I like the Leica look better; it's gentle and subtle and makes every OOF background look like a painting.

http://slrlensreview.com/content/view/433/51/ <- there's a picture of the ZF 28mm F2.0 on a 5D! Maybe the look might convince him. Or not.
