QUOTE(hrd @ Jun 26 2008, 01:07 AM)
wow, this really bad shocking.gif
i thought the dead mobo syndrome already gone

Yesterday morning around 6am, I'm still using my laptop to do final revision for my programming subject exam. Before I leave my house to college, I plug out all the cable including LAN and power cable. When I reach home around 3.30 in the afternoon, I try to use my laptop. The moment I press the power on button location in the middle of the laptop. I cannot even turn on my laptop. Right after that, I immediately call DELL. They ask me to hold the power button for 10 secs but nothing happen as well. I told them, my laptop is only 1 month++ old, how can this happen to such a new laptop. They say sometimes hardware failure. The only thing they can do is send me a technician and replace the hardware for me.

I really need my laptop because I'm having my exam this week. Hopefully the technician will fixed my laptop by tomorrow. But I really feel so disapointed with DELL about their QC. If the problem still exist, I definitely will ask for a replacement or refund. I don't want to get into this kind of trouble again because I'm going to Australia next month to continue my degree courses.

Basically there are difference between quality LCD, i believe now all the new XPS M1530 Samsung is using 2nd version and hopefully its not grainy. To be honest I did not notice the difference in the first place until i did side by side comparison LG vs. Samsung. It’s so obvious, especially on white background. It looks like there was sand all over the screen. LG screen has better brightness , very clear , clean and solid white / gray colour. grainy issue with Samsung LCD happen for almost all LCD panel they build, happen for digital camera (the small LCD), TV and laptop panel. I believe this could be due to poor quality or difference between technology that they use on LCD. Example Sony TV, what they call as Trinitron technology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinitron)
hrd

i really really understand your feeling man sad.gif
same thing happened to me. my original unit M1530 died just after 2 days cry.gif
if Dell cannot solve the mobo problem, how about you ask for refund and buy again M1530 in Australia?
last time i checked Aussie got special promo and with cheaper price.

to Safar
what i heard that Samsung produce really good LCD panels for desktop LCD and LCD TV.
they even supply the LCD panels for Sony LCD TV. Samsung has better colour compare to LG.
Samsung also supply LCD for Sony Vaio. Vaio LCD probably the best laptop LCD in the market.
i think Vaio use higher grade of Samsung panels compare to Dell.
llhm87
I also don't know why that will happen. I leave it at home and untouchable still can motherboard failure. Recently really jinx. My desktop spoil because of lightning strike. So I learn my lesson, whenever I'm not at home, I will plug out everything from my laptop. But still it spoil.

If I really get my refund, I definitely will not purchase DELL anymore. After this incident happen, I totally have no confident with their QC. I will think about Asus as my next laptop. Maybe G1.
hrd
to llhm87
i hope the tech guy can repair your new laptop without leaving any scratch marks.
monitor and supervise his movement when he dismantle your laptop ok?
yeah, Asus G1 is solidly build and really impressive gaming laptop

to Safar
i don’t know whether their “grains” problems are the same as “sparkle effect”.
recent i always went to AV shops and computer shops, checking and comparing a lot of LCD panels and pixels.
just like orang gila biggrin.gif

from my observation and opinion, “grains” and “sparkle” are totally two different thing.
hard to explain unless we have two different screens to compare side by side.
well maybe i’m wrong because i’m not in involving in LCD industry or an LCD expert tongue.gif

if my memory serve me right, the quality of videos (DVD, avi etc) using my old “sparkle” Samsung actually was much better than LG.
somehow the Samsung screen cover and filter the video artifacts and imperfections.
the better LG screen looks grainy when playing DVDs blink.gif

Kinda interested in DELL XPS M1530. But i wonder do DELL offer a student price or not and do they still offer the RM500 rebate for purchase above RM5,000? hmm.gif

Student discount I'm not so sure but I don't think so they have. If there is no RM500 rebate for systems purchased at a price of RM5000 and above, then wait until Friday as I see usually they will put up that rebate promotion for the weekends.

Me too.No more Dell.

The next laptop is either Asus or HP's buisness laptop.Asus, have been using their hardware for years. No problem at all.Even got struck by lightning.Only soundcard died but the whole mobo still works till now.

Really miss my ancient P4.No problems at all.

Hahaha..
And yet we still see BUY DELL recommendation throughout the forum..

I think most people mentality still stucked few years back when notebook aint mass manufactured by OEM in Taiwan. In fact now even the mighty Apple and Sony/Fujitsu are outsourced to these OEM. Just because the exterior is metal doesnt mean inside is good.

The Dell Technician will come later around 10.30 to 11.30. Let's see what he can do about it. Will update it later when he came.

Added on June 26, 2008, 12:21 pmThe technician came and replace my motherboard. After that, my laptop is once again back in action. Really proven that my motherboard failure. The technician is very gentle to my laptop without leaving any scratch. But I feel so sad when see him take out every single component from my laptop. Feel so sad.

guys after long delay and heavy consideration. I will take my risk and buy xps1530 along with dell premium service (3years full warranty and international support)

Final specs will be:-

-Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T8300

. 2GB ( 2 X 1024MB ) 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM

. 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT

.Dell care premium

. 9 cell battery

. 200GB SATA 7200rpm hardisk

Is it ok to upgrade the RAM myself? i kind of worried about the compatibility issue. I surveyed lowyat, they are selling 2GB 800MHz ram around the price of RM140-RM150 each. Thats cheaper and better than wat they are charging me in dell website.

Give them a call, and ask them to configure the laptop, and when you reach the warranty part, tell them you want 3year Warranty + 3y CC only, usually the XPS 24/7 support comes with it, but you can save on the HelpDesk which cost over rm200 at the time i bought mine when I asked them to not include the HelpDesk

If i want to improve performance,i do it by software like drivers and turn off useless processes.

Dont think so.7 months adi.

I might just call the Customers Service to give me a 1 to 1 replacement.Heard there are people who do that and they got replacement if they are very frustrated with the problems they have.I think im eligible for that now.Way too many replacements for a single laptop. :shake:

The hinge problem is not solved yet. There is still a little crack in it.

I love this laptop's specs, size and looks. It's just all these hardware failures and BSOD bothering me.

Without all these problems,it's awesome.

lol i think whoever wanna buy this laptop should hold on longer and wait a newer model of xps comes out first.....u might be able to get a refund like i did....my laptop almost everything has been changed but problem not solved....if calling xps technical support doesnt solve your problem then call customer care manager.....my laptop is still with me now....will return the laptop once they sent me a box......btw...the difference between LG and samsung is A LOT.....trust me...my current laptop is replaced with LG display....no grain at all and its brighter too smile.gif
