IMHO, if it has a refurbish sticker on it, it doesn't mean that it is used, they stick all their replacement parts with that sticker. I can't recall where i read this though.

well the technician never scratch it but it was knocked on my table when he was lifting my laptop from the table,i dont know if that has any impact on my laptop itself and i suspect the motherboard is faulty, never see any refurbish on top of the packaging, not sure about the bottom of the packaging though,i dont want to end up with a dead mobo.my gaming performance since to have dropped quite a lot after the replacement, even before replacement it already has problems in games sometimes it would just lag for a split second like some owners in here mentioned but i just ignored it anyway,i have sent an email to the customer care manager that handled my 1st replacement,i wrote clearly in the email that i would want to request a replacement if they cant fix my problem during the next on site service, this is frustrating for me because i only have 1 year warranty,if anything happens after 1 year i am seriously screwed  doh.gif
*

I think you need to give it some time to "warm up".

Remember the first boot with the new mobo,it takes exceptionally long to boot for the first few times.

Did the technician reapply the thermal paste on the heat sink? If he didnt, call Dell and ask them to add some on the heat sink.

Dell Malaysia really need to improve their QC.It suxs.

Dunno should i call Dell Aus or not to fix my keyboard problem. It's a bit budge in the middle if you look at it carefully.

Hi, anyone using UltraSharp™ Widescreen WSXGA+ (1680x1050) TFT Display with TrueLife™ screen?

How does it perform? Does it have the grainy problem?
hsc
hi ivan89,i think the 1440x900 was a better choice..my replacement model came wif UltraSharp™ Widescreen WSXGA+ (1680x1050) and it looked more yellowish n not tht bright compared to the 1440x900

the technician did run a diagnostic after installing the mobo,no problems found,he just swap the mobo....i didnt see him doing any thermal paste though rclxub.gif .....boot up was the same as before just that my graphic card performance is performing badly in games that it suppose to handle with ease.In WoW my frame rate will drop as low as 20fps now as oppose to last time it will only drop the most is 40fps,it feels as if i am running on a 8400gs but the device manager shows it is a 8600m gt which is really weird.i have tried changing drivers but still the same sweat.gif .I will probably get a call regarding my request for a replacement from the customer care manager on monday,i have already sent an email regarding my problem.

i totally agree that dell malaysia should improve and be more efficient in their QC even mine had cosmetic problems.

Tried running on external power?
If you are running on Nvidia drivers, it seem like Nvidia powermizer will tune down core/memory speed when running on battery. I can confirm my Acer with 8600M GT also same problem when running on battery. Will lag...

if you're using vista, advisable to change the following option:
go to control panel, open Sound, double click Speaker/Headphones
Under Enhancement tab, check Disable all enchancements
after apply reboot try again.

this is known issue that we already discuss here before, can use search for more details or post from others for result.

That fella didnt reapply thermal paste.Thats why it's causing the performance drop while gaming.

Call them to add the thermal paste. If not, even surf net, your com also heat up.Can feel the right side much hotter than usual.

Vaio FZ FTW!!
just return from Lowyat. The Vaio outlet there sell FZ35G just RM4988!! RM500 cheaper than last April PC Fair (last time i checked)
T8100, 4GB RAM, 200HDD, 8400M GT
and of course with better LCD screen tongue.gif
brand, quality, price and spec are quite attractive.

if you're looking for Toshiba just wait for the new Satellite series (with black glossy finish) to launch in Malaysia.

QUOTE(kheechun @ Jun 12 2008, 09:28 PM)
Well, just listen for the fan sound in a quiet environment, execute some processor demanding activities to make the fan run, or you can just download temperature ad fan monitoring softwares like SpeedFan to check the speed of your fan, or just turn the fan to maximum speed to listen or feel for the turbulent air.

Sometimes, even when the fan is running at max rate, you won't feel much of the air coming out, that's because your ventilation chamber is blocked. You'll have to remove the fan unit to clean it. It really helps, done it on my old laptops.

Anyways, where is the heat? if it is at the left palm rest, then the fan doesn't actually help much, cuz I don't think the hard disk heat is coducted well to the heat sink.
*

hi, thanks for your reply. i wonder can i ask dell people to check it for me? the whole laptop very hot from top to bottom even not running anything and battery isn't plug in >.<

lol thanks for clarifying, i thought why my fillrate is higher than the one reviewed,i'll see if they manage to fix all my problems tommorow

My 5920 also same 3.8 and 7.6 de. I dont think fillrate can be changed cos its well affected by the numbers of shaders available.
Only the bandwidth would be different as some are using GDDR2/3. My memory bandwidth is 12.8 only.
Why not uninstall the drivers and pop in the newest drivers from Nvidia. Just install manually. Im using 175.75 with NVTune to overclock if necessary.

is your tv-out cable purchased from dell? is svideo-to-rca or svideo-to-svideo?
if you have both option, the best is svideo-to-svideo.
some of third party cable are not compatible, bear in mind.

check the nvidia control panel or intel graphics properties whether it can detect the tv or not.
you may try update driver, still cannot then consider buy cable from dell or get other cable but bring notebook test it before buy again.

Unfortunenately the cable wasn't come with Dell by the time i bought . But i manage to get a 7 pin cable svideo to svideo straight to TV at pc outlet shops .Normally they dont provide a test on cable b4 buy thats the major problem .

I have the exact same problem have not been able to make it work too. I am suspecting that we have to get the cable from Dell, should be a compatibality problem with the third party cable. Mine detects the TV but no display is shown, when hitting the F8 key it briefly shows the desktop on the TV screen for an instant only, after that blank. Works fine if using HDMI to a flat panel TV, unfortunately I don't have one sad.gif I have posted the same question quite some time back and no one seems to have an answer. Tough luck for both of us.

in your scenario maybe better, at least can detect the TV but just no display on the TV. just to configure as extend desktop (usually clone desktop wont work as our notebook screen and TV are totally different resolution support), set the lowest screen resolution for both. good luck. try update video driver also, ignore the shortcut key for Fn+F8.
