So the ones Dell are selling now definitely not using Montevina platform.

I think is OK to leave your battery there while using power directly from power adapter. This is because the battery is in idle when your battery is fully charged. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Heat will reduce the battery lifespan. It happened to my Inspiron 5150, I very seldom use the battery, but the battery is always attached to teh computer. Guess what, within a year, the battery lifespan reduced from 2 hrs to less than 1 hr...
I'm still attaching my battery to my M1530 though... cuz removing it will render the laptop unbalance, and I don't really plan to carry something to balance it, since I'm bringing this laptop around...
Anyways, if my memory doesn't fail me, there is some research published on the internet that says heat is detrimental to Li-OH batteries. And overheating of Inspiron 5150 was a known issue.

guys, i'm having prob with my 1530 d...it couldn't not boot into vista not matter normal or safe mode.
Before that i was still using it without any problem. It just stuck during the loading screen where the loading bar is moving and doesn't do anything. I can hear some sound from the HDD.
So i think mayb the HDD (Toshiba) is faulty. However, i had dual boot vista and OSX, i am able to boot into OSX without any problem...what should i do now?? I need to move some files in the windows partition to my external HDD...
(P/S: if i call dell for replacement of HDD, will they be able to copy my files back from the old HDD on the spot??)
in the meantime, i will use the check disk utility in the vista installation CD....
BTW, is the 1530 capable of booting from USB drive??

Matlab has a problem with Vista: only Release R2007a supports Windows Vista.
http://www.mathworks.com/support/solutions...lution=1-36TXZPPossible solution:
http://8help.osu.edu/3546.htmlA blogger reports on the problem (some good notes):

Well, just listen for the fan sound in a quiet environment, execute some processor demanding activities to make the fan run, or you can just download temperature ad fan monitoring softwares like SpeedFan to check the speed of your fan, or just turn the fan to maximum speed to listen or feel for the turbulent air.
Sometimes, even when the fan is running at max rate, you won't feel much of the air coming out, that's because your ventilation chamber is blocked. You'll have to remove the fan unit to clean it. It really helps, done it on my old laptops.
Anyways, where is the heat? if it is at the left palm rest, then the fan doesn't actually help much, cuz I don't think the hard disk heat is coducted well to the heat sink.

well, it's very easy to do the RAM or HDD upgrade by yourself.
if you ask the shop to do it for you maybe they will charge more or scratch your laptop.
you can refer the
M1530 Service Manualwhat i understand, the warranty should be no problem as long as you keep to original parts.

Here is what I have from an email reply from a Dell Customer Care Specialist after enquiring about this issue few months ago:
"Kindly be informed that if the RAM and wireless card are from a third party, any installation done that causes the system to crash will render the warranty void. If the items are purchased from Dell, then we would need to carry out some investigation to determine the root cause.
It is most advisable to get the parts plus installation from Dell in order not to void the warranty coverage."
Me: "So, what if in any case it is clear that the system's fault is not due to installation of new RAM? e.g. the motherboard burns because of physical damage to the adapter (experienced this once)? Or hard disk fault? Or any physical damage due to carelessness for complete cover?"
"If the fault is not due to installation then your system will be covered under the warranty package that you currently have. "

.....i am pretty sure after replacing the fan the whine will still be there....gonna ask for a replacement if they cant fix it

I am not sure whether it's the same or not, for my old inspiron 8600, the whinning noise seems to come from the display card, more obvious if it's on battery. But of course, for your case, ask them to replace lar, pointless to do so much replacement.

1. LCD graincy is not the hardware failure standard, what only can said you're lucky. If you're not satisfied just call dell customer care about quality. dell technical support just follow the standard rules, only replace if hardware fault only, cant blame them too wat.... in our order, also did not specfic brand of screen also.
2. there is no cable that let the technician to forgot plug back, you know why??? graphics card are integrated in the motherboard although is NVIDIA card. 1 part only.
3. Don't mislead others to ask for replacement before there is no hardware failure to justified. may call dell tech support for further clarify.
4. Again, if not satisfied with new product within 15days then may ask for refund/whole replacement unit. if more than 15days, then only can request on-site service. REMINDER: only applied for buy direct from Dell, not for retailer unit.
