i'm using a hdd camcorder
samples can be obtain from here:
http://www.youtube.com/user/dgrebel86i'm quite satisfied with it, it's a 30gb model but until now still not full eventhough a 10minute clips renders around 365mb already (with good AQ and IQ), and totally WYSIWYG type of camcorder with no visible artifacts or motion distortion when moved around very quickly
you record video directly onto a hard disk installed in the camcorder. This same hard disk is used throughout the life of the camcorder, so you never need to pay for new tapes or disks.
u can also shoot chapters by chapters and then combine them with the supplied software. and no, upgrades of the hdd is not feasible because it's fixed to the camcorder
here's my JVC hdd camcorder, not bulky and just nice to hold (unlike the flimsy P&S camera with movie recording feature)

OH an addition to it, it's a hybrid too. it accepts SD memory card as extendable memory.

i think d best choice for nowadays use is hdd type camcorder.... although u can see on d spec is only 40gb but u shud remind urself bout d automatic compression by d camcorder itself through some call AVCHD... 40gb can record almost 40h +/- of video so u can see d pros theres...u dun need to carry alot of tape or dvd along with u anymore... and the process of editing become easier since it can be connect to ur computer by USB just like dat.....
i suggest that if u do wan to buy camcorder, u shud start searching on d internet..... n d best thing is if u buy it on d internet d price there is much more cheaper than in our country... i'l giv u sum links.....

Go for the ones that can record in avi or mpg or vob etc. formats (no need conversion) .... straight burn to dvd, for divx players.

DVD's don't last too long under most environmental conditions due to the thin data layer.
Tapes are great and bloody reliable, i have 20 year old tapes that still work, but the problem is that you have to FF and RW to move around and that's pretty annoying in my opinion. Random access = No good.
HDDs and SSDs presents the best balance in my view, they're long term stable, especially SSDs, and they're faster than anything out there. With HDD and SSD capacity going up so fast these days, you're pretty much spoiled for choice.

Food and Clothing.....Maybe

Seriously spent too much on camera and toys already. I usually settle down once i've reached the top of the line

, for example my HD650 is 3 years old and still with me, i find no need to upgrade because i've reached a quality level i can "settle" into.

Heard that Mini DV has the best quality among all of them , not sure though.
kaos87
May 10 2008, 11:19 AM
yup.... the quality is superb compare to HDD and DVD media record.... cuz in MiniDV there are no compression like the new AVCHD format in most those type of camcorder..... compression lowered the quality of video taken.... but the best thing is my SONY HDR-HC9 has a usb port which u can transfer d content of the DV tape straight to computer..... editing is not that hard unlike new camcorder with AVCHD........ High Def MiniDVi can take 63min of HD video while in the regular LP format about 93min....
lms2005
May 10 2008, 01:04 PM
High Def & normal DVD wat different?
kaos87
May 10 2008, 03:10 PM
the different is recording format..... some dvd camcorder have high def feature some not.... high def record a 1440X1080i..... while full high def record 1920X1080i...... so it depend on camcorder..... usually the normal SD camcorder record 720i if im not mistaken.....

plus, it does support sd card.
heavy? trust me, a dozen goreng pisang is heavier.

i guess since i'm used to the idea of flash memory (handphone, gps, dslr, digicam) dats why i prefer flash rather then hdd. low bat usage & low mechanical movements are the other point of view. but as said, for now i guess its only available online. checked in dxb, but expected to be available in 1 or 2 months (but no price was given). already emailed canon Malaysia but got same reply. btw, i think fs got couple of xtra features compared to hf and the price is not much differ i would believe.

May 10 2008, 11:11 PM
Canon FS does not record high def unlike HF it record high def.... plus d sensor is 1/6 compare to HF is 1/2.9........ this mean d pic quality for HF is much higher than FS...... currently d flash type camcorder still not stable...... ive read several review that said they had memory full error although they just format it..... so think twice before u buy....... as for MyDevil i suggest that u shud read more on camcorder spec u gonna buy.... cuz rite now all d HDD type camcorder hav HDD shock protection which will save ur ass whenever u drop ur camcorder....

to say that HDD camcorder bulky is just unfair..... maybe d bulky is d price of camcorder not d camcorder itself.......
