FYI, if the middle 1 doesn't react the side driver (Passive radiator) will not move also. Try to higher up the bass and woofer setting, the bass effect will increase accordingly too.

By the way, what sound card r u using? If possible connect to another source and try again.

haha i using on board sound card !! any sound card u recommand?? i think is on board sound card problem!

the S730D seems to have a better dynamic range than the S530-D.
well, the S530-D is sharp, but the S730D has repaired a few minor jitters of its younger brother.

IMO, this would make a kick ass home theater system smile.gif

What the hell....yours picture is S730D la....the right and left is 'passive radiator' to 'exaggerate' the bass....i don't know how it works, so i ask him as well....

The important thing is S730D only got one 10" subwoofer....

A speaker enclosure using a passive radiator usually contains an "active driver" (or main driver), and a "passive cone" (or drone or passive radiator). The active driver is a regular driver, and the passive is typically the same or similar, but without a voice coil and magnet assembly. It is only a suspended cone, not attached to a voice coil or electrical circuit. The passive radiator usually has some means to adjust its mass, thereby allowing the speaker designer to change the box tuning. Internal air pressure produced by movements of the active driver cone moves the passive radiator cone as well.

Passive radiators are used instead of a reflex port for much the same reasons—to tune the small volume and driver for better low frequency performance. Especially in situations in which a port would be inconveniently sized (usually too long for practical box configurations). They are also used to eliminate port turbulence and reduce motion compression caused by high velocity airflow in small ports (especially small diameter ones). Passive radiators are tuned by mass variations (Mmp), changing the way their compliance interacts with motion of the air in the box. The weight of the cone of the passive radiator should be approximately equivalent to the mass of the air that would have filled the port which might have been used for that design. Passive radiators do not behave exactly as do (more or less) equivalent bass-reflex designs in that they cause a notch in system frequency response at the PR's free air resonant frequency; this causes a steeper roll-off below the system's tuned frequency Fb, and poorer transient response. Due to the lack of vent turbulence and vent pipe resonances, many prefer the sound of PRs to reflex ports. PR speakers, however, are more complex to design and likely to be more expensive as compared to standard reflex enclosures.

The frequency response of a passive radiator will be similar to that of a ported cabinet, with two exceptions. The system low frequency rolloff in a passive radiator design will be slightly steeper, and will have a notch (dip) in frequency response due to the Vas (compliance, or stiffness of the speaker cone) of the passive radiator. The goal in designing a passive radiator is to adjust the tuning so that this notch is below audible levels.

Hmm, wanna ask one noob question, haha. Is edifier S730=S730D? hehe. Coz i don see the "D" on the box ~.~ Or they r totally different product? Sry sry tongue.gif

So basically the only diff between the 2 model is just the sub woofer? the satellite speakers for both model is the same?

Hey,
ediefier, where is your showroom located in LowYat? Would like to audit the 730D, I have bought the C3 series. is about my taste but not up to expectation. i wasn't aware that is selling at RM999.00.
Can i audit it with a Creative sound card and also with the optical cable?
With my C3, I have made some adjustment. I change the Speaker cable to Hifi speaker, it make some different, but still lag of something. and i saw the website recently, found out that your 730 satellite is the signature speaker. it would be great if i got a chance to listen to it. if it really up to my expectation then i will get it. For most of the store which selling speaker... they will only allow you to listen whatever they playing .. and even tell you that with the song that we playing is sufficient for you to test the clarity of the speaker.... I really... feel... is this how people doing business?? some even open a few speakers so that you wouldn't know that is actually a few speakers is playing and you will think is really sound good....zzzzz ... i believe that your ediefier design is more towards audiophile theory... should be nice while listening to audiophile CDs.

I need some opinions here. I'm using Edifier S730 now and currently i'm using Asus Xonar U1 to pair with it. Since i'm using MacBook thus there're less choices of external soundcard that is compatible. I always heard that creative is superior in soundcard manufacture, and there's this Creative Xmod which is compatible with MacBook as it works as Plug N' Play. Has anyone compare between Xmod and Asus Xonar U1? I wish to know which of them is superior xD in term of clarity of sound, i notice that Xmod has the crystalyzer effect which i dunno whether Asus Xonar has it or not? Does this crystalyzer effect affects the sound produced a lot?

Bought this S730 a few months back, the sound imaging is superb.
The bass is very good, very punchy and not boomy at all (could be a bad thing, depending on your taste, SPF or SQ).
Very sweet bass for music.

Yah, the mid is definitely a bit lacking, but already much better than my previous Logitech Z680, and bit better than the old but still good Altec Lansing 640.
If you have a good sound card which lets you tune, you could punch up the mid levels a little and it'd help a lot for the mid.

This is a very good set for music and gaming for PC / Console.

The cons is the lacking 5.1 effect from movies.
If movies are your only bread and butter, steer away.
