As long as their modem uses a LAN connection to your PC, any routers will do.
rob_z3_man
Because the PenangFON dude asked me to only buy their modem.

Is wireless affected in any way?
yyie
They have started to implement the so called user authentication system.....

So we are force to purchase the router from them if we need to do multiple connections.....

Is it a must to buy their routers in order to allow connection?

I think they are implementing something call 802.1x on the WAN port (not the wireless 802.1x, a lot of people confuse with wired and wireless) and if you can find a router which can support this authentication method should be ok la.. Ideally..

The cheapest 5 mb broadband they have costs RM 5000 to setup.... subsequent months is Rm 199.....

Imho it would be better to wait till end of 2008 to wait for streamyx fiber optic broadband tongue.gif

TM coming out fiber optic? No wonder Penangfon one can't be implemented yet.

Really dont like penangfon now... Using Dlink 524 also cannot login. They are forcing ppl to buy the dlink 524UP.

Where got such things? Same model also cannot login? Maybe they preset some password into their modem, so that what they are selling can log in...
bayanbaru
mine suddenly cannot log in. then i call up.....they say must get thier router.
gogo2
no such thing. I use linksys no problem also.

The authentication will implement phase by phase. Not reaching your place yet.

PenangFON and MetroFON (same company just one in Penang and the other in KL) is a very dishonest company. They have been cheating customers in many condos. I'm one of them. Said to give 2Mbps speed but only get 400Kbps and said it is Ethernet to the premises, but upon checking, bloody h*ll, using copper pair cabling (twisted pair similar to phone cables) and runs on HomePNA solution (theoretical speed of 1Mbps, but real life performance at best condition is 798Kbps only). Some more state they are offering 2Mbps... what the heck man... their equipment only can barely touch 800Kbps.

I've stop using them and switch back to Streamyx, at least they are "honest" about what they offer. Might try another provider as my condo as another one call Macro Lynx.

need more feedback from you guys...maybe considering penangfon, since it's cheaper.

I am currently using Penangfon and I would say the penangfon's connection really bad.
Try asking around your neighbours first, they might be various other companies's broadband and ask them how's their connections.

Even if you have a good working router, you still have to buy The Only One Router from Penangfon.
Can't help it, it's their network and they call the shots.

Just try to stay away from Penangfon until they sorted out their mess and the connection gets better.
