Too free on weekends, have to find myself something to do instead of rotting in front of my PC. Anyway, here's my plan:

Date: March 15th, 2008 (yup, it falls on this Saturday)
Time: 0800 hours tentatively.
Places: street shooting, architecture (Chow Kit - Dataran Merdeka - Sultan Abdul Samad building - Petaling Street - Central Market)

Plan
0800: Breakfast time!
0900: gather at Chow Kit's monorail station.
0915: start our journey from Chow Kit to Coliseum, then Sultan Abdul Samad building and Dataran Merdeka
1300: lunch time at anywhere.
1400: Petaling Street and Central Market
1600: Sit down, relax, have a drink and have some Kit Kat

Gears preference: Any lens will do! Be it kit lens, fisheye, UWA, macro, super telephoto... you'll still get shots from any angle.

Owh, wise choice there. I've added you to the 400D's owner list. Should have asked you to join us during out previous outing last Sunday.

I am very very new to photography, I dunno whether anyone of you willing to teach/guide me...when i join the outing.

The purpose of having outing is for us to poison each other share knowledge among ourselves. Join us for the next one, don't be shy. It's much faster to learn together than to learn alone

OK Looking forward to the next outing. Hopefully it will be on Saturday cos I have piano class to teach on Sundays.

Of coz he wont mind.. right? everyone is learning mah... it's just an outing anyway. If he minds, then you go there and pretend to have a coincidence la... LOL

Move in groups lo. If they are unfriendly, put away the camera. And don't shoot them. I don't plan to shoot people, just the buildings.

Any other safety tips?

OT a bit: On my Melaka trip, the people there were *very* friendly. Probably because they have tourist all year round.

Btw, don't need to ask if can join. If you're thinking if you should join, then you should. So copy paste the name list and let's see it grow

goldfries, I'd asked Viking on the Bukit Tinggi outing and he said that it is better to set it on the 29th. He will start a new thread regarding that particular outing soon. As for now, this thread is meant for the outing this weekend, and the other thread is for discussion on future photography outings... well, more like a discussion pool

When u guys do urban shooting, just becareful esp when talking into petaling street area. Those ah beng owners aren;t taht friendly too.

I have to skip this event coz got other commitments, well i suggets newbies with kitlens should go n try out.

If don't need whole day, just shoot 1/2 day then cabut

come my house earlier and we 2 go find the place

well I don't think we need whole day too. If possible please bring along your tripod or monopod... well... just for self defense though. The chances of us getting harrassed by ah bengs is lower compare to if we go there alone.

and by the way guys, make sure you keep an eye on your belongings. I just put a rough time frame only; most probably the outing will end around lunch time after that will be TT session + poison-spreading

yeah. that's what i'm afraid of.

some might be criminal and don't wish to have their pic immortalized.

In that case, I can only suggest more peoples to go along... and watch each other back.

yeah, some people misunderstand.

with intimidating gear (350D / D40 with kit lens is intimidating, even to the less-informed) they immediately assume we're from the press or something, doing edisi siasat about them and their activity. LOL.

sure guys, the location is rather flexible maybe we stop at Central Market then.

hehe. our 1st time la valho. yup....i think it would be so tired on that day (oso thirsty ). no need extravaganza lenses...or ppl look weird at u. be simple..like tourist. hehe. if snap ppl pic..and he look at you...try smile. be in group. err...its just my 2 cents

here's some tips in bahasa from experienced shooters. hope its help :

Tips yg saya boleh share:

1) Perlu kita ingat - di mana bumi dipijak, di situ langit dijunjung
- Apabila kita berada di sesuatu kawasan untuk shoot, kita perlu peka dan perhati keadaan sekeliling, apa sensitiviti masyarakat setempat, apa yg mereka curigakan, apa yg mereka alu-alukan. JANGAN SEKALI KALI KELIHATAN SEPERTI KITA MENUNJUK LAGAK! Bahaya wo. It is better to consciously be HUMBLE than unconsciously create unnecessary trouble! Maksud saya mudah sahaja - come in either unnoticed or accepted by the community. Rasanya saya sempat menegur beberapa geng outing nit pada hari tersebut - "Senyum kasi lebih sikit!!!"....and maybe next time outing dah tahu dah, tak perlu bawak satu almari lensa....ingat, we are doing street shoot not studio shoot!

2) Plan your outing - personal/group
- Saya dok terkial2 dgn buku ketot saya hari tu....that is my sketch book. Saya belajar drpd beberapa pro & kawan2 tentang shooting plan & develop cara sendiri untuk saya ikut. Kenapa? Sebab saya tidak ada byk masa untuk develop diri saya & masa untuk keluar shoot adalah terhad, maka setiap outing yg saya lakukan mestilah berhasil & setiap hasil mestilah lebih baik drpd hasil yg sebelumnya....tiada alasan. Antara perkara penting yg perlu kita fikirkan sebelum kita keluar shooting:
- apa thema kita
- apa subject yg berhubung-kait dgn thema tersebut
- apa expression, emotion, body language yg akan membantu memperkuatkan lagi subject tersebut
- apa dia background/ stage yg akan memberi impact terbaik cerita yg kita cuba sampaikan
- kenali/ fahami kawasan yg kita akan pergi
- tgk keadaan cahaya
- tgk keadaan/ respons masyarakat sebelum kita melakukan sesuatu
.....search la kat forum ni, ada tips saya dah diberikan tentang street shooting

..dan bergantung kepada thema, kalau ianya berkaitan dgn berita/ rencana, adakah cerita itu berbaloi untuk kita ketengahkan? Adakah ianya sesuatu yg ada harga (value)? Atau adakah ianya sesuatu yg biasaa & tangkap muat ajer?

by the way guys, please avoid driving straight to Chow Kit. You could take monorial from KL Central or other LRT interchange.

Hmm.. I am still thinking what lenses to bring if I go...

Maybe no need camera bag if only carry 2 lenses...

Do you think 50mm and 85mm primes enought ar?

that should be enough, dun think you really need a 85mm though, unless u plan to snipe some protrait. just bring ur 17-55 IS can already or 50mm if you wanna go prime.

well, it boils down to what you wish to snap actually. For street candids I guess both lenses will do just fine

maybe you need to bring along your 1200mm?

I let the 1200mm to my alien friend, who need it in some galaxy war in distance far far away...
