ur game still prolly can run,
but u might have to start all over again as some game will store the progress/saved game on user profile directory.
or, need to reconfigure those settings like mouse/keyboard/appearance.
or need to re-enter the cd-key as most of the copy-protection software store the cd-key on windows registry/user profile folder.

should be same, but might be more troublesome as some software need external dlls. like msvc runtime(lots of them), .net freamwork(v1 to 3.5), activex control, blablabla. else they will failed to run.
same like game also need up to date of directx version installed, and gc driver too.
