That will work well if you are working on a smaller file. like DV solutions will surely work well on Firewire 400 and 800.

But if when we go for the HDV1080 format. the firewire will not work already.
That is where the professional Raid solutions comes in for High end editing needs. (I mean the high defination streaming)

Isn't raid 1 to create a mirror of a harddisk and raid 5 (which is used a lot with SAN storage) as well?

yes. you are right. Raid 1 is not advisable because it creates mirror, its a waste of HDD space. especially using Enterprise HDD.

Raid 5 is better, if you have 8 drive raid as raid5. one of the drive will act as a back up/hot swap drives. If any of the drives fail, the backup/hotswap drives will take over. Once the fail drive is being replaced, it can be restored very fast. this is very good for those who doesnt have any other form of backup besides the existing working files.

I believe the SAN Storage Solutions is using Fibre channel. that is the highest end solutions for most of the Banking, financial industries. and also giants corporations.

Wow, i wish i could afford a Raid bay storage. Something like this or a DROBO
sonnettech-asia
Yes, when you have tasted the Raid with 4 bay at lease, you will never want to have a single drive solution.

I have a few buddies, using 8 bays and 10 bays. they could not live with single HDD for their work anymore.
