Full Version: Moving house... how long to move Streamyx?

Moving house soon.

I stopped by TM Point an hour ago and asked them what the process is for moving my fixed line and Streamyx to the new place.

She told me it would take two weeks!!!

In other countries where I've lived (Asia, Middle East, Africa), the cutover has taken a few hours at most. In some countries they provide service at BOTH locations for 24 hours on the day you switch - number rings in two locations at once - so you are never out of contact.

And TM needs two weeks? What kind of insanity is that? Why would they deactivate the old service two weeks before activating the new one? It makes no sense.

It took only a few days to get it activated in the first place. Yes, she said, it's much faster to cancel and order new service than to move existing service.

Is this really true? Does anyone have experience with moving their line - how long did it take? I'm in central KL if it makes a difference.

Actually, it was quite fast for me. Just need to apply with the transfer form, once they verify the new place has service then you can tell them the date you want the new location connection to be active. Could use as soon as I moved in. No extra charges.

this is our motherland.we know her more than others do.

that's how TM work...

I dont think u'll be 'out of contact' since they'll cut off the first line after 2nd line is done...It usually took 3 days for area with coverage. It helps by getting new neighbours phone number for address reference since in Malaysia we like to change our street name when we feel like it...so the street name in front of your house wont have the same name today as yesterday or the day TM input in their system for that matter...

the trick is apply early like what i believe snowwolf did or just procrastinate like any other Malaysian did...LOL!!!

streamyx transfer might take another 2 days after the fix line transferred...

I don't think that's necessarily true.

In my country, many of the most insightful and intelligent observations I've heard come from foreigners. People who live somewhere their whole lives get blinded about that place and have a hard time seeing things as they really are. They are too buried in their assumptions.

Thanks, you give me hope.

One time I was cut off because I didn't pay the bill (was outstation and had to extend my stay at the last moment). I returned from the airport at 6pm and found dead phone, no Streamyx. Rang TM on my hp and they said it would take days. But I really needed the service ASAP for a teleconference. I whined at the call centre people, finally went down to Menara Telekom in PJ, whined at everyone I found there (7:30pm by that time), and magic of magics, had Streamyx back up and running by 9pm.

So maybe it just takes some pressure. I was worried they would mess everything up so much that it wouldn't be possible to get it going for a week or more no matter what.

Atcually u can go for your near TMpoint which is from your new house to request open port the for streamyx first for your telephone line. Then u able to login your streamyx account by that time although the account is been process to move to the new place. thumbup.gif
