I am using it. It's really RM108.
I have pre-existing Streamyx at home and I recently add on the Celcom broadband.
Contract is 12 months and I bought Vodafone RM650 Data Card.
The coverage is good. I can online almost everywhere.
Speed? I can upload photos to Facebook, Skype with my Korean friends, watch Youtube, send file using MSN, download mp3.
I haven't tried downloading movie!

maybe your area got HSDPA (3gx)?

I'm using 3G for the last 3 months but to tell the truth even log in to Skype takes like forever, to watch Youtube video i can make a cup of coffee and drink half before i can run the video (3-5min video).

How can you do all those? amazing but not really true.

Anyone here has got the 5GB per month bandwidth limit imposed ? Once the bandwidth quota reaches 5GB the speed is suppose to drop lower than 384kbps.

i just called celcom and i have asked all the details.
actually the promotion is still going on.
the only thing i dun like is because the device is too expensive...
and i have to sign a two years contract. and if breached, you will have to pay RM 350.

btw, can i know anyone of u have actually surveyed on the usb device??
how much u actually have to pay for the device if u buy it from other shops?? because if celcom won't provice you the device. just the sim card only....

so what do u guys think??

The price of the USB modem varies from about RM500-RM650 for the Huawei brand. Well just think of it this way, if you really will put the 3G to good use too, you will be saving RM48 every month compared to the original price of RM68 per month. From the savings actually is already good enough to fund for your modem.
paqralos
hmmm... how come it's damn expensive for the stupid device?? i dun get it.. i think it's not now the to get this package..
think i will wait until it really has become cheap. then only i will go and try it smile.gif hehe.. i'm still a student.. think it's inappropriate yet tongue.gif

Well perhaps the technology is not widely used but IMO it is probably the cost of the hardwares/parts used in it, usually wireless broadband modems are expensive (eg: Jaring Wireless and TIME Webbit).

yeah... this tech is still new.. only these two years only they're promoting wireless broadband..
the devices still expensive because of limited users in the market. i think we have to wait for another two years in order to get a real cheap one.. hopefully there will be some devices produced from china as well tongue.gif

anyway, there's actually one simple solution for this. you can insert the sim into the phone, then if ur laptop has bluetooth device then i think u can use it to connect it to the internet. or else u can just buy one device which costs u less than 50. i think the connection will be slightly slower smile.gif

Yes using a 3G phone to act as a modem is a common practice at the moment for most people who are not willing to fork out so much money for the USB modem, however not everyone owns a 3G phone for example me. Another negative side of using a phone as a modem will be if it is used away from home/office, it is going to be draining the battery real fast.

true enough. neither do i have a 3G phone. that's why i think i won't be using this technology yet.
i think i will be having enough broadband by using the normal streamyx package. although this promotion really makes me to drool drool.gif but then when i think carefully, i still think it's better not to waste money because not much money to be wasted also. maybe after i get a lottery striked then only i decide la tongue.gif hahaha

As I know many USB modems do have a backwards compatibility. Here is the specs I took from the Huawei E220 :

HSDPA/UMTS: 3GPP R99, R5
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 3GPP R99

i just called CS of Celcom, then she told that this package have limit of RM 500 credit limit. I am confused with this, anyone know about it?
If using streamyx 1 MB and they also will limit the bandwidth of usage, so is this mean they are not unlimited broadband?
Confused, please advice....
lil_chocobo
streamyx- no fair policy usage
celcom b/band = 5gb usage policy
upfront pymt = depends on ur package
credit limit if you have voice call package..so just ignore..

The RM500 credit limit is for the postpaid and it won't matter unless you merge it with an existing Celcom voice plan. If you are a light user which I think so since most who subscribed for the Home, Hop & Away package usually uses the Celcom Broadband as a backup or secondary connection, you won't have to worry much on the 5GB limit.

upfront is 108...excluding streamyx installation + activation... that is is 75 + 88 each
anasilk
so in this case the credit limit RM 500 is not applicable for Streamyx account?
Just to double confirm, coz im a heavy torrent user. If they have some kind of limit on the all total account then it is not worth it.
Is anyone that subsribed with Home, Hop & Away had experienced slow connection on the Streamyx when download more than 5GB of data?

Added on May 19, 2008, 9:42 pmi just called the Celcom CS again. Twice they said to me that there is a credit limit RM 500 for both Streamyx and Broadband. The best thing he said, we will barred the phone number (streamyx and celcom) if the usage more than RM 500!!!!
Now im getting more more confused.
Does anyone who is subcriber can tell your experience on this package? please, really need advice here. Thanks in advance.
