hey bro, don't be sad about the fairy. some people do not see the beauty of the fairy, only special people like you see the true beauty of the fairy hehe. ok not that the fairy is not nice, it's nice, but the village has overshadowed the fairy. i still love the village though hehe. or maybe you increase the size of that fairy's chest, that will surely attract many people (i know i would be hehe).

both artworks lookk great snakesolidus! smile.gif just that some of the buildings perspective are a little off i think, and the colour need some shading and highlite to make it look even better! just my opinion though smile.gif

might i suggest something?

ur lineworks didnt transfer nicely into digital. u need to do something between scanning and coloring to preserve the line quality. as u can see now, ur "cell shading" method has weird "artefacts" around the lines where the colours doesnt fill in nicely.

my suggestion is (assuming u're using photoshop to colour):

i. after u scan the lineworks, increase brightness to clean up the scratches. then increase contrast by until u get a good solid black line, but without loosing too much detail.

ii. now everything is still one layer, right? then go to select>color range and select black. this will select everything black in the drawing. u can adjust the threshold of the selection using the fuzziness scroll bar.

iii. with the black linework selected, cut (ctrl + x). then paste (ctrl + v) on new layer.

iv. now look at the layers tab. while selecting the new layer with the lineworks, click on the lock transparent pixels. this will allow u to paint over ONLY the lineworks.

v. now just take ur favorite brush (any will do), select black, and just run through the canvas. u will see these strokes will enrich the black lines. u can also colour the lineworks this way.

happy trying.

ya really like naruto village laugh.gif

Interesting concept that you have going there ^__^
Somehow tho, the colour is not fresh enough, not enticing. It really feels half completed. Never show something that is not finished unless it's a WIP that you showing. Then the finished product comes along at the bottom soon. Seeking for advice should go with one project at a time.

You can play around a lot more with the fairy. Be mindful that you will have to adjust the skin colour because we are not yellow ochre people. Needs a slight pink undertone to it especially with the white hair. The green on the dress is nice. Add more shades to give it more dimension. Maybe a slight sparkle? Fairies are rumoured to have made their clothes from Fragile Spider's Silk which is super soft and catches the morning dew drops every so prettily.

You need to add a Mood to your village. I will assume that you warped the camera angle on purpose(it looks slightly fish eye) so I won't comment on that. Think of a feeling, then paint it. Is it abandoned? Is it full of live as the capital of the land? Is it the most successful trading point? Is it a village from a dimensional time rift that is full of vampires ruled by their ruthless virgin vampiress goddess who enjoys sucking the blood out of lost maidens in distress thru their right nipple? I will never know until you paint that in ^____^ you don't have to change the line art. it's the colour that you can play with happy.gif

See how far you can go with a little bit more thought in your artwork? You are an artist not a drawing machine. Make use of your imagination ^___^

Err .... a lot of advices going on. But my advice is to stick to what you are most comfortable in. If u like the lining that way then just let it be.

Anyway to my comment: The village seem ok to me (probably the mountain lining need some blurring/fogging/thinning to give distance feeling). As for the fairy er.... I've seen somewhat almost similar art on children picture book so I would say this is quite good hmm.gif thumbup.gif

Added on November 12, 2008, 8:48 pmAlso, one question: what is that mutated grape looking (with popping eyes) thingy you trying to show us? Can't seem to recall any similarity to what I seen.
