hi.. guys.. i bought a D-Link DIR-300 wireless G router a few days back and i don't think i like it much.. first of all.. i cant play COD4 online.. i cant play warhawk online.. all i get is the web browser and that is it.. i cant play anything online.. is it something wrong with my settings for the router? i've done the DMZ.. UPnP doesnt work so i tick it off.. read somewhere in a forum someone said to do the port forward, and i did.. but nothing new happen.. the psn just kick me off the network and the internet freezed up until i reset the damn thing.. can some one help me please with my problem.. anyway, i have my ps3 on wired since its hard enough to get the net.. ow, and if nothing helps.. someone please recommend me a better router so i can get back into the game.. cheers!

I bought the following and tested it ...

1. D-Link DSL-2640T > 54Mbps (802.11g) Wireless ADSL 2/2+ Router with Built-in Modem, 4-port 10/100Mbps Switch

NOT GOOD

2. ZyXEL P-660HW-T1 > 802.11g Wireless ADSL 2+ 4-port Gateway

NOT GOOD

3. Linksys WAG200G > Wireless-G ADSL Home Gateway

GOOD

Now I can host COD4 full green bar match. Refer to COD4 Discussion Thread. Click Here.

any answer for me...??

So the ultimate question is what's the best setting in (wired/wireless) router to get a decent connection to PSN?

I have a D-Link DSL-2540T ADSL wired router but really don't know how to configure the setting in order to get a better connection especially when playing COD4 online.

I had D-Link DSL-2640T ADSL wireless router, tested and result not good. So I think you better change your modem.
Eric_Almighty
LOL... Is there any big different between the that model (wired/wireless).
Is it just the wireless model or both (included wired too) are equally bad? I just that wired router few days ago with my ang pau money.
Rezuan78
im using BELKIN F5D7632AK4A Wireless G 802.11b/g 54 Mbps ADSL2 Modem + Router 4 Port

If D-Link Wireless DSL-2640T not good, then D-Link Wired DSL-2540T also the same cause the configuration is the same.

of course D-Link Wireless-G Broadband Router 4-port DIR-300 not working properly because you still need a ADSL modem to connect to it.

i connect using router can i get NAT Type 1? hmm.gif

NAT Type 1: Connected directly to the Internet
NAT Type 2: Connected to the Internet via a router
NAT Type 3: Connected to the Internet via a router. Depending on the network environment it may not be possible to connect to other PS3(tm) systems. Voice / video chat and the communication features of games are restricted.

Am using Belkin Wireless-G Modem Router F5D7632, 54g 4-port on my PS3 currently. Configured to NAT Type 2 wirelessly, zero problems thus far.

Played Burnout Paradise demo online and a few others all with zero lag!

BTW, is it better to set my NAT to Type 1? I have no problems thus far with NAT Type 2, so don't wanna change anything.

same here dude. i think NAT Type 2 is good enough for me too. thumbup.gif
clngu
no need to change if you satisfy with NAT type 2 smile.gif ... cause normally for those who can get NAT type 2 ... easily can get NAT type 1 as well ...
SSJBen
I can set it to Type 1 easily now, but if theres no difference at all... why bother?

How do you set the PS3 connection for NAT Type 1 when you're sharing connection with PC?

Of course i got connect it with adsl modem, or else i cant even get NAP Type at all. blink.gif

hrm.. one more thing.. yeah i still have the dir-300 router connected with zyxel P-660R-T1 v2 adsl.. anyway i'm using Maxis broadband.. so is there anyway that i can configure the adsl ports so that the game connection for the ps3 would be normal..
and i went to a shop in sunway and was gonna get my hand on the belkin Wireless-G Modem Router F5D7632 but the dude said that it's better for me to get a d-link modem instead.. all because my isp -> maxis.. i dont feel like getting another d-link router cause of the compatibility problems..
Dinghydoggy
Hey guys... Just wanted to ask... Would my ISP affect my NAT type? I've done everything possible to configure my router for the PS3. I'm using a Dlink DI-524 (which a few people have said works fine).

I've assigned an IP address to my PS3 and DMZed it, port forwarded the relevant ports, changed both my router and PS3's MTU to 1364, every possible thing I could think of, and my NAT type stubbornly remains at type 3. vmad.gif

What ISPs are you guys using (if you've got NAT 2)? I'm using Macrolynx...
farhunter
I have use many router brand
so far what see, the best is either netgear or belkin
linksys have good performace but hard to configure
other than that all s**k ball
dont buy cheapeo aztech or other cheap brand
go for quality then money
dont waste money like me buying aztech cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

Erm... I doubt ISP affects the NAT type . U cn try calling ur ISP to confirm though.
Dinghydoggy
Well I just plugged my modem directly into my PS3 via wired connection, so since there's no router, I should be getting NAT type 1. BUT it's still NAT type 3. I doubt the helpline for my ISP will understand what the heck I'm talking about though... Malaysian helplines are like that.

What should I do? Switching ISPs is not an easy task... don't think it's an option either. Parents wouldn't wanna change the line and billing setup just for my gaming sake. If it was my router that was the problem at least I could just go out and buy another router or something... *Sighhh* sad.gif

So to those who are able to get NAT type 2... are you guys using Streamyx basic?

Added on March 13, 2008, 11:17 pmI sent off a rather crisp e-mail off to my ISP, asking for a solution to this problem. Still no reply yet.

One of the reasons I bought a PS3 was for online play. vmad.gif
therescueone
i have another question.. i bought myself a belkin F5D7632ak4A router.. works great.. got NAT2 but the ps3 says something about ip fragmentation.. can't chat online anymore.. any suggestion? but online gaming works wonders.. i've set both router and ps3 MTU to 1492 since it's the biggest number that the router could get.. and have set ip static on ps3 and DMZed.. still no changes..
slickz
funny enough the cheapo aztech ( the one that came with TM hotspot @ home) package lets me play online just fine.
therescueone
im using maxis by the way.. probably that's the source of the problem..

Just share my experience with your guys...

Currently using D-Link DIR300 Wireless G-Router, said to have 8 port (4 wire & 4 wireless), though i only use to connect PS3 & 2 laptop at one time...

The only problem that i facing during first time using is that it will regularly disconnect from PS3 without reason, then call up to D-Link Customer Service, get to know that the model need to download a patch to solve the disconnectivity issue.

So just follow his instruction, go to ftp file & download the patch into the router, so far until now the online went perfectly without disconnect from PS3 (touch wood!)...

Btw i'm using Streamxy 2.0 Mbps...

Hope that the little info can be a guidance for those who intends to buy D-Link wireless router...

Edit: btw i get NAT 2 for my PS3 and the D-Link router cost RM130..and i check in speedtest, download speed around 1.6 - 1.7 Mbps and upload speed around 500 - 600 kbps

After finish reading all 3 pages..
Can NAT2 work on wireless? Or it only work in wired connection?

My PS3 is too far away from my PC for settle with a wired connection..
