Full Version: Advice for Cheap Digital Camera

I don't know nuts about digital cameras and I would like to purchase a used digital camera so that I can upload the pics into the internet. Not looking for anything fancy, even a good 1.0 to 3.0 MP with macro function would be sufficient.

Can I get something for below RM 200?

The last camera I have used was the Minolta X-700. Camera of the Year 1984. I took my last pictures more than 10 years ago. Not sure how good or reliable digital cameras are so any advice concerning repairs, batteries, accessories, spare parts etc would be appreciated.

If you are looking for something around 1-3MP, why not get a good camera phone instead, like the Sony Ericsson K850, which has 5MP?

Thanks for the suggestion but the Sony Ericsson K850i costs around 1.7K maybe(?) from official distributor and for that price, I can get a DSLR instead. I got a phone already, nothing fancy just a Nokia 6030 but gets the job done.

I thought about using a webcam too but I doubt the image quality would be good as using a camera. Anyway I did a bit of window shopping and I could get a Kodak Easyshare C713 for a promotion price of RM 399.

I'm just looking for a cheap digital camera for occasional use.

You can take a 20 year old SLR film camera, send it for servicing, calibrating and cleaning if it has fungus on the lenses and you can still take good pictures.

Shouldn't the same principle be applied to old digital cameras from the year 2000 models and above? Anyway, I don't know nuts about digital age cameras so any advice is appreciated. Perhaps digital cameras are not as rugged or long lasting as film cameras?

BTW I did found a shop willing to let go a Canon A540 display unit for a RM 499.

Anyway I really do not wish to spend more than RM 200 if it is at all possible.

Thanks.
