Hi, currently i have these 3 lenses for my d40 :
1)18-55mm kitlens
2)50mm 1.8
3)55-200mm VR
Macro lens is too expensive for me at the moment,
thus, I am thinking to get the Raynox DCR-250 macro filter after alot reading positive result of it.
My question is, will this macro filter work on every lens? esp for the 55-200mm ? Can i get a focused image through out all the focal length ? I planing to use it at 200mm zooming some insects etc. Will this work? How is the minimum focusing distance then ?
Thanks for all inputs

Is the Raynox DCR-250 any much different than other macro/closeup filter? I'm not familiar with it.

its stronger than the hoya of course. It gives a 2.5x magnification. so if your lens is 1:2 then it'll be 3:2(i sucked in maths, pls correct me).
comes with an adapter of 52mm-67mm.

I just tested it the other day on a 105mmVR. WEll, in term of focusing, it feels like those add on filter. In terms of sharpness, it is better.
Although the kit comes with an adapter for 52mm-67mm lenses, some lenses will give u a black ring around.
How good? Well, wait for aichiban. He went to butterfly farm with me with his 50mm + raynox. Stay tune.

I'm using this Raynox. It's can attach to almost every lens. But it'll reduce a bit of sharpness.
And it's hard to focus properly. You have to move your body also in order to get the right focus. A Macro lens can do it easier but cost a lot more

Thanks you guys all for the comments !!
I only afraid that after mounting the filter, i will need to stand further than the subject more to get in focus, if it provides bigger magnification then it is ok..
my 55-200mm with 1.1m shortest focus distance cant do much macro, thus considering this filter..

vichio, would like ask u on the EF-S 18-55mm IS,
from the spec. sheet, the 18-55 IS has a minimum focus distance of 0.25m,
after using the raynox DCR-250, i wonder how it will affect that.
Is that the closest u can get for the flower with that lens ?
Thanks alot.

No, i can get the full flower on the frame with Raynox DCR-250 attached. But i dont have the pic to show to you

The more zoom, the more magnification ratio you get. So if you attach it on 55-200, you'll get even bigger. But i'm not sure some unexpected thing will come. Such as if you attach it on 18-200 VR, you'll get some vignetting or purple fringing.

difference with hoya +4 is this raynox has 3 digital coated glasses and it give u center to eage sharpness and also colour contrast is better compare to hoya only middle sharp and eage is very soft and less colour contrast...
there are some sample image here
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=627712&hl=http://mitmivec.blogspot.com/2008/02/rayno...o-close-up.htmlalso in flickr
http://www.flickr.com/photos/puffinart/set...57594147063094/and best of all u can come look for me to test it and but it if you like

its affortable at RM280 compare to a dedicated macro lens at RM1500+ wat more if u decided to buy a macro lens u can still use this super macro lens infront of your macro lens and get 2.5:1 instead of 1:1 life size

for RM280 come with personal training and tips from me lol

haven tried it since then, interested to know also...

if u want to use DCR250 u need to off the macro on camera and zoom to 4x to 10x to get high magnification
it will definately get better on a DSLR

raynox i try ok one but quite hard to use.. focusing distance become very near..

ori file here too big
http://www.flickr.com/photos/chongchiang/2568464573/sizes/o/http://www.flickr.com/photos/chongchiang/2569335684/sizes/o/conclusion is this thing virtually work on any lens which is within the adapter size of the raynox 250. The magnification level varies from lens to lens..

ya the working distance become very close, which make it harder to shoot the insects.
