Is SanDisk Extreme III 16GB CF a good CF? Anyone use it?

I heard that it is the biggest capabity from Sandisk.
calvin_gsc
I find Sandisk Extreme series most affordable and fast as opposed to Lexar Professional series. They're reliable too.

I have used Kingston Elite Pro and it's slow.

sandisk extreme 3 is rated 20/20 n elite pro is rated 20/25. Why do u say the elite pro is slow?

Rated only but I have tested burst with my Nikon D80 with same settings with both cards, the Sandisk takes it in much less time than the Kingston. I was using Ultra II not Extreme III some more.

What are the read/write speeds? Usually we would look for those properties and durability as one of the criteria and of course brand does play a big part.

I thought Extreme II is 66x only?

Ok... Here is my experinces with CF...

Kingston 1GB CF Elite Pro x 2 -> Never has a single problem. Performance so-so but never has a single failure nor problem

Kinsgton 8GB CF Elite Pro x2 -> Just bought about 7 months... last 2 days, one of the day I have 5 pictures unreable.... It is first time in my life encounter this... Reformat, and everything on liao... but still a bit scare scare

Scandisk Extreme III 16GB -> Let you know soon... Just open the box... laugh.gif

I am happy with Extreme III already... Kingston? Well, since the price not much diff, just better to keep my money on some that is more world known.

Can I know how you guys judge ar? unsure.gif

I mean what make you think one is better than the other? unsure.gif

For beginner like me, I can only judge BIGGER is better... which mean the capacity la... And no limit on what is enought.... whistling.gif

Each Sandisk Extreme series represents different read and write speed.

i am using kingston elite only.
i am not a burst photographer so, so far so good.
but the only down thing for me is it takes quite long for the 2gb elite kingston to be formatted.
1gb fast.
davidmak
Me only using Transcend 133x 2GB CF card. Speed is satisfactory. I don't know about you guys speed requirements lar, but I would generally prefer higher capacity with reasonable speed at reasonable price. Me no pro here, body also semi-pro lar... not yet full blown pro. Hehehe... maybe next time I shoot RAW will require this quality.

1gb fast.

I found my 30D also slower... about 10 times slower to format a 8GB Elite compare to 1GB Elite....

But 40D is much faster... My guess is 40D using quick format kind of thing gua....

Yo...

Althought I just bought a Extreme III, but I still think capacity come first... Since Extreme III offer the biggest capacity from Sandisk, I bought it.

If talking about pure performance, I think the camera internal buffer is more important... nothing faster than DDR....

It was very slow when I was using 10D... Since then, I always use card reader... and until now, never try direct read from 30D or 40D...

By the way, I need 20+ minutes to copy from 8GB Kingston Elite Pro 45x. This speed normal ar?

If Sandisk Extreme III is true 133x, which mean more than double of my current 45x... Does it mean I can copy 16GB data faster than 8GB? shocking.gif
hellfire8888
i use apacer 8GB cf card..fast and good..value for money
TheVoIP
From the previous shooting. I found my Extreme III certainly much faster than my Kinston Elite Pro, especially when buffer full liao and can notice the wait time before next shot.

When I reach home, I use my cheapo card reader to transfer the data. It is usually about 23 minutes with my 8GB Kingston... and I am expecting the same time for my 16G Sandisk Extreme III CF due to its faster speed. But what happen is that the 16G CF just took exactly double the time into 46 minutes!!!!

So is it my card reader limitation? Worth to buy a new card reader just for the shorter time file transfer ar? If really help, how fast can it go? hmm.gif

yes bro..
reader is usually the limitation..
thats y i forced myself to get a firewire reader...
firewire is better than usb 2.0...due to high sustained speed...
usb2.0 suffers spikes often...so the sustain speed is not actually good...

And for HDD, I turn off PC and then use SATA cable directly. Then transfer rate and response should be the fatest.... biggrin.gif

Or else how's the point of getting a motherboard of 6 sata ports? brows.gif

Any good recommendation of fast card reader ar? How about those from kinston or sandisk? hmm.gif

my sandisk extreme III 4gb CF, full card transfer in about 4 minutes, so you definitely need a new reader TheVOIP. I am using usb as well smile.gif
