hey nate, dont u have any idea on telescope prices and grades?
would be cool if u can put it in ur 1st post smile.gif
more interesting this way
nate_nightroad
US for astronomy?i cant leave my parents here in malaysia...but as a career is alittle extreme for me,is just a hobby...she even gave me the coordination for Mars and jupiter, but somehow i can onli find jupiter, damn mars is too small to be seen

like kyolee said,is a real peace of mind when u look in the sky...ur mind wonder and u feel relax and how small u r in the universe....
KyoLee
yup~can poison many ppl turn bcom a stargazer...haha try post some telescope aso~got interesting~no frenz tat interest in star gazer

@nate_nightroad haha i owez do bcoz i got alot preassure in doing my college assignment tongue.gif so owez do something like this to calm my mind..if nt..

You called? tongue.gif

About stargazing... hehe, I used to do it when I was in primary school as my dad bought a book about stars. One of the easiest constellations to view in our night sky would be Orion. The shape of Orion is so prominent that you probably won't miss it as it's just a square with 3 dots in between. The big dipper is not that hard to find too, while Sirius is pretty easy as it's so damn bright.

If you look carefully at the celestial bodies in the sky, you'll notice that stars are the ones that flicker. There are other stuff which don't, which could be planets, especially those which are not that "hot" hence a darker orangy/milky/whitish colour. Most stars are bluish-white. I could be wrong though as I can't remember much from the book.

Speaking of the book, it's an American published version so it's orientation is based on American skies in the Northern hemisphere whereas we're situated closer to the equator.

Anyway, just try to get Orion. You won't miss it if you look.

Too bad our night skies are not polluted by light as they have a bright orange tinge now... You'd be lucky to even see ONE star. doh.gif
boltguard
Orion . . makes me think back from the movie Men in Black doh.gif i watched it in flight on my way to KLIA doh.gif

"to prevent war on Orion's Belt" sweat.gif

sorry...tis few days i quite busy so no time to update...

i already email my neighbour's daughter but no reply yet...will keep u guys up to day

I too in a sudden feel interested in astronomy. From my observation there are 2 models which i found available. hope some sifu here can give some comments.

1. http://www.lelong.com.my/Auc/List/2008-02D...scope_90060.htm

2. http://www.lelong.com.my/Auc/List/2008-02DStd11596186.htm

I know its a bit inappropriate to post the whole advertisement. i just wanna know what are the distinctive pros and cons between the 2 telescope other than the magnifying ability. for taking interstellar pictures, i came across with this boggy.

http://www.lelong.com.my/Auc/List/2008-02D...URVEILLANCE.htm

btw, what is this used for?

get a reflecting telescope. those big ones. very nice.

remembered the old days when i used to go to sleepovers in school for stargazing.

manage to get a view of jupiter (get to see the great red spot), saturn (with rings!). haih, good times. full moon jgn cerita lah, we had the chance to use the big bad reflecting telescope. wah, moon never been so big. can easily identify the craters. most favorite planet to spot is venus. there was a major meteor shower in 98/99 (tak ingat!), man that was beautiful.

good times...

hey let's do a stargazing gathering. but need to read up again. all skill dah takde. even forgot the pros of reflecting telescope against the refracting ones. haih.
skumara
where to buy telescopes? I used to borrow my friends one last year. but after moving to JB, i need to buy my own telescope.
aprisis
i've never spot a zodiac sign b4..dunno how to connect dots tongue.gif
temptation1314
sweat.gif Somehow, I find some telescope for sale.. Ranging from RM300 - RM400++ sweat.gif

Anyone want?
supernothing
what kind of telescope is that?

bet it's a refracting scope. if reflector mesti mahal.

anywho, try searching for infinity infocus on google. they have kedai here in PJ.

refractor or reflector also got...

but of course, reflector de expensive a bit lol...

best is start to join stargazing groups in malaysia, follow them for stargazing sessions. Learn, explore with all the sifu there before making a telescope purchase...

there's lot to see and enjoy without telescope....take for example constellation spotting. There are 88 of them. Of course cannot spot all due to season, and location. Those at the northern and southern hemisphere are hard to spot from equator.

well you can always count the season with quantium physic gravity in advance matematical then u able to find out at least 90% of 88 able to spoted in curtain time frame.

lol tongue.gif well maybe i use to study sub singularly quantum physic b4 but in other hand to be simplify from the matematical calculation you can look at the calander and see weather forcast which might help you stargazer the right place at the right time rclxms.gif

well, some of us do check the satellite image before embarking. My friend like to go kubu bahru dam for astrophotography....total darkness there (protected from city lights).

Everytime a clear nite is spotted here in kl area, a quick check with the satellite image to confirm no coming clouds, then off they go....

hilltops are not necessary a good place. The best hill near KL would be Fraser's. But sometimes on a clear night, can get disappointed with mist. My favourite place would be the tennis court after the playground.

Please do go in a group....not kind of place to be alone; for all kind of reasons.... whistling.gif

instead of going high up, the kubu bahru dam is also great....(fraser foothill). Other recommended place would be the Farm, Negeri Sembilan.

well that depends on how passionate the person is towards astronomy related field. The ppl I know can pack and go at the sight of clear night in the wee hours....In m'sia very diff to plan as the weather is unpredictable. Besides, cosmic events does not evolve around out schedules.

sweat.gif that's why it's better to do it around KL, where there's still transport + people even on wee hours.

It's not passionate or not case lar... Malaysia is not a safe country anymore, you had to remember thats's rule #1 to go out late night. Even KL also quite dangerous, not to mention ulu place like Kubu Bahru(no offend, but it's really ulu place sweat.gif)

It's better to do it around corner of city, or if no choice, within places that still have little crowd of peoples lor. At least can attract more people who is interested but can't go out late night for that moment yet lar. Then slowly, can arrange for places like Melaka field, Seremban or if can Genting thumbup.gif
ShinAsakura
Hm... stargazing... if do gath who bring telescope? or at least bring a cam with telescopic lens la haha...

If can snap a panorama photo of the night sky biggrin.gif
temptation1314
sweat.gif I'm planning to buy new one... around RM300++ sweat.gif

EDIT : Uh, if really got gath for this, don't really let me alone bring telescope ler... you guys should contribute some some also ma.. laugh.gif

The old one dunno move how many times house, and since which house lost in the air also dunno when...Zzzz doh.gif doh.gif
ShinAsakura
lao... telescope expensive le... if i can buy 1 i oledi got PG Strike jor (taboo!)

anyway, do those telescope for sale in TRU capable to watch clearly?
temptation1314
I dunno, but I can get a basic reflector telescope @ RM300++

Those TRU sell de... freaking expensive lar..

true...night out can be dangerous...but well it all depends who you are with. There are public events being organized from time to time. Sign up with those established malaysian stargazer groups, they will update you from time to time.

Well, I got a dobsonian. Bought 2nd hand, a small, easy to manage telescope with primitive mounting. In the distant future, plan to get the heavy-duty EQ tripod for the scope.....it can cost close to 1k. dunno need to save how long..... sad.gif

Other than that I pinjam....hehehe....occasionally use friend's 1000mm refractor.
ShinAsakura
wow... seems like you guys are serious stargazer haha thumbup.gif

1k... sweat.gif

lol look like my best spot current at kuantan where alot of tree give more clear view for the sky and really far away from all those light. u can sometime see it with your naked eye ^.^
