A PSP-style gaming cellphone from Sony is one of those perennial rumors you generally see rolled-out in naff "the year ahead" prediction features, but this time around it's Sony Magazine itself that's dropping hints about the manufacturer's mobile plans. According to the article, the "PSP-Style Phone" could be in shops as early as February.
While admitting that the idea might have merit, Sony has continuously denied that a PSP-based gaming cellphone is in development; in fact, Sony Ericsson VP Merran Wrigley told Brighthand's Ed Hardy that the company doesn't believe that "given the current state of mobile technology it would be able to create a phone worthy of the PlayStation brand".
As SEfanatics point out, we're already halfway through February, so if Sony have anything up their sleeves they'd better whip it out soon.

I think PSP phone is unlikely to be realised anytime soon.
A possible scenario would be another version of PSP, perhaps with build in HDD
and bluetooh etc.
A psp phone will just be too bulky to be a phone. Imagine a phone where you
can't fit into your pocket. And in terms of battery, they might have to fit something
like 10000mAH into the PSP for it to even withstand calls+gaming+mp3s.
We already have Skype now, that should do for the time being.

i would love to see sony come out with a psp phone,and teach them smartphone bloggers a thing or two about mobile gaming on a handphone,but judging from the PSP's battery life,Nokia's meager(in terms of gaming) ngage phones would definitely outlast(battery life) it

I don't know about you guys, but I think using a phone as a gaming device is a bad idea with the kind of battery tech we have right now. Do you really want to spend your phone's battery life on gaming when makes it easier to run out at a crucial moment?

they should not build another phone based on PSP
IMO, they should replenish the "PlayStation" brand with mobile phone gaming market, akin to Ngage 2.0's approach, to offer games download to supported SE phones, they can do this via existing PSN, just create a mobile section, and work on either Symbian based or propriety PS phone engine. But the market prospect is dim, mobile games that is popular in japan will not be popular in US

And somemore not backward compatible... I don't see a way to fit a UMD.

Surely, with this PSP Phone.. it'll more fun when lepak2 waiting for bus..
