i need help too..i used to type mandarin without chinese star..was using the control panel language bar thingie..after i reinstall os, i forgot how to enable it again..=(

control panel > regional and language options > languages
tick install east asian language,
you'll be prompt to insert windows xp CD
and then go to details > advance
untick the turn off text services,

You need a Windows XP Pro/Corp version and the East Asian Multilingual User Interface Pack CD from Microsoft, I think corporate license have that CD bundled. That CD can change EVERYTHING, the menus, start button, interfaces into chinese.

To display chinese words in chinese program, you can try this
AppLocaleTo type chinese, you can use 3rd party software (no need Windows CD during installation) like :

U may change ur default language or language for non-unicode programs from english(U.S) to Chinese
at regional and language option>advance
