Let me start us off. I can't seem to find a Christian Musician based post here so I decided to start one. Discussions, suggestions, help and all sorts welcome!
I'm a drummer myself, been playing for 4 years now. I'm from Sabah, now studying in Houston but go back to M'sia whenever I can because I miss my friends, family and church. Of course the food and shopping also lar.

I've been a church pianist for 5 years now, and 1 year bass guitarist, mostly of a pianist and lead singer ^^ chinese methodist church. Now in aus, going to eng church, will serve in piano/keyboard soon too =D god bless.

Hahahahaa just kidding.. Christian church-goer here ..
But sometimes some church musicians are quite stuck up .. thinking that they're better than everybody else.. like wat da fark? iIts only between u and god .. jangan la hidung tinggi kan? no offense to other church musicians.. I'm only talking of those lanci ones..
Yearsss ago there are some of my friends who asked if they could join this certain church's band (left this church long ago), but the church musicians so lanci gave all sorta excuses.. hhaha.. but that time i wasn't really into musical instruments yet.. Oh well outta topic.. Peace!

Well, sometimes they have other factors to consider before letting you play in the band.
Like whether you're really there to serve, or just to find a place to jam/play . .
. But well, maybe they didn't communicate nicely ler, which may make it sound lanci . .

i use to have big wishes like playing bass in my church
mind u...its a traditional chinese catholic church..
and the 1st reason i tel my parents about my 1st bass 5yrs ago
was tat "I want to play bass in church..."

in the end...
it seems tat the church acoustics were reli bad....
wit alot of echos, reverbs, delays...
low notes sounds too gloomy...
its nt meant for live band..

so nvm tat
but do get to play in church camp stuff
its fun
its like contributing to wat u hav and wat u can do best
to the ONE u served

Well .. Honestly now I think back .. Why do normal people need to get "respect" from the church musicians?

I mean.. Who are they to say who can serve god and who can not? .. The normal people wanna play to serve God .. They should respect that itself already and give them a chance.. Instead of just turning the normal people away..

I dont get what you mean about normal people and respect from musicians. I dont think it is happening in my church or any other church for that matter.
And who says anyone is turning normal people away? Anybody is allowed to be in the Worship team.................. if you think you want to join the team, all you have to do is ask....

If you bothered to read all the posts and not so easily jump to conclusion.. I was actually referring to a "certain" church that I attended years ago .. Not your church.

lol srry bout that then. But anyway no church should ever have that attitude towards those who arent in the band.

im a church musician as well. served as guitarist for 5 years and worship leading.

if someone were to come and ask whether he or she can join the team, i would have a talk with the person first to determine the purpose(some wanna join to show off...haiz). then determine his/her skill level(as long as can play simple chords then ok la...), then will give that person a chance to serve in one way or another, but probably will start with small group meeting first.

I'm just curious.
Besides Echobrain, who else plays for a church and also plays and listen to Metal?
I'm not talking about Metallica....... I'm talking about Lamb Of God, Slayer, Children of Bodom, Cradle of Filth, Suffocate....... stuff like that......

I've been to a couple church music (I think the term is "gospel") concerts, and I gotta say... the stuff they play is pretty much whatever's trendy at the time. The last one I saw was way back when Limp Bizkit ruled the nu-metal roost... needless to say what kinda music was played - the band was from Aus, though.

Going forward, I'm just curious but does gospel sound like Akon and Timbaland these days lol?

Check out Falling Up too, rock christian band in almost the same genre, if I'm not wrong.. Vocalist kinda sounds like a pop singer though, but singing rock. Hahahaha!

yeah demon hunter is pretty good, but they kinda get boring after a while. i don't know, they're not my type of music. too metal-ish

anyways, my church would always test new musicians who want to serve first and pair them up with senior musicians who would help guide them and help them get used to the church's style.

I attend City Community Church, Melaka. It's a small church and most Christians students from MMU attend there.
