Well actually the G900's OS is based on Symbian 9.1. However, that is just the kernel and the interface however is UIQ3.0. So when looking for applications and games, you should look for UIQ3.0 compatible apps.

Got myself the HBH-DS220 bluetooth headset. Sounds is OK to me. I'll probably upgrade the earpiece to something better later. Should have got the 200 model as it comes with earplug (220 come with in-ear) since i am gonna upgarde the earpiece anyway. Pairing is simple. I just pair once, the rest i just swithc on and auto pairing. I wish there is more remote function. it only have play and stop function on the blurtooth. I wanted 980 model but 980 do not have 3.5mm jack, so i am stuck with the default earpiece.
install the trial version of handy expense too. so far its good. help me keep track of my expenses while i m away at a foreign land. Its a simple one to use. I might buy the full version soon. i think its $11 if i purchase online in the next 3 days.
I have been using S ans SE phone for the last 7-8 years (my last 4 phone are S or SE) and this G900 need some getting used to. Some function either they are missing or i have yet to find it. Like profile... i am still looking for it. Th touchscreen thing is not exactly touchscreen as i would put it, especially scrolling. For instance, i kept a pdf copy of the train system but it's won't scroll with touchscreen... well, u can touch the scroll bar to scroll... which i thought its not so convenient as the scroll bar is not that big for my fingers. Also when you reach some menu and you see a scroll bar, well, take the stylus out then... The media player is cool, almost (i have not really 100% tried all function yet) touch-able. scrolling the different music files, picture or video, work with the finger well. The media interface is pretty cool, not like those other menu.
2 major grouse i have is the software and also respond time. The SE software since my W850i have given me the same old problem. I start the software and plug in my phone, sometime the software just don't see my phone. i gotta unplug then plug in again. at time gotta do this a few time. demn... can't the improve this??? also the procedure can be headache... especially the update service. when doin the update, at time i don't know if things are still working or i am waiting for durian runtuh... and not to mention the "press C button, pull the battery out... blah blah blah... steps". My old Philips MP3 player have an easier update procedures.
ah... respond time. when i got this G900 i am expecting some wait time. At time its fast. i touch menu come up. sometime, i scroll the panel, its like things hang. i just leave my phone idle for a while and in a while (i don't go counting the second...) its OK. a little annoying but so far the machine have not totally hang on me that i nedd a hard reset.
The shortcut... it more like a macro to auto the menu. example... you select create sms... you can see on the screen, the whole process of going to the message menu, select create sms. and when you close, you see the same thing again in recerse order. not an issue but something i think can be imrpoved <- is this a Symbian or UIQ issue???
overall, i am OK with the G900. Lite PDA user who need a phone first then a PDA later will probably find this one fitting.
Now i got a question to ask... is the a Microsoft Outlook Today alike screen? i wanna see what is my task, appoitnment when i active the phone.
Next, i'll try watching movie and see what's the experience like.
BTW, anyone have used 4GB memory. The shop i bought told me i might encounter problem if i max the memory.

So far my one has been running on the new sandisk m2 4GB, nope not a problem at all. Smooth operation
The sales person did advise me if i go beyong that like 8GB, the problem is only might be slower in response time cause of the huge amount of data in the memory card trying to be read by the phone software.
But i think when 16GB becomes a norm for phones, a software update might just do the trick in the near future.

Actually the capacity problem does not result in the phone becoming unresponsive. You may have an 8GB memory card but if you're not filling it up yet or nowhere near the limit there is no such thing as a huge amount of data in memory. After all these are flash memory which is persistent. No power is required to hold them and you don't move and shift these data the entire 8GB block at the same time. Chances are you access the data the same you would do for any other smaller capacity cards.
The problem comes from the resources required for the huge amount of addressing in a high capacity card. Depending on the hardware platform, it may not be game enough to handle such requirements. Especially those 16bit processors that is inefficient and require multiple clock cycles to complete one instruction. This is where the slowing down will happen.
New phones or technically newer platforms with new MCUs should have solved this problem. Look at iphone 8GB, 16GB and even 32GB. Look at Touch Diamond and Omnia. Although these are built in, they are basically the equivalent of flash memory ICs.
Just want to get this problem cleared.

true... back in those 386 and 486 days... windows and office can run on like 64MB RAM. these days 2GB juz sufficient to run the OS alone. With faster processing power, programs get fancier and the vicious cycles start. I remember my family first ever mobile phone... the Motorola taikor tai 8000 series phone. man... there is not even memory to store phone number. I remember the shop telling my brother to get the Sony model, can store 3 phone number...!!! THREE...!!! How things change.

those are not touch sensitive buttons, unlike the k850i. the g900 has a touch screen. although the screen is rather small for a touch screen, but believe me, it doesnt hinder usability most of the time. although some icons might appear to be small, but trust me, you will have no prob 'touchin' them XD.

Just do a search around level 1 and go for the best offer (good price and good accessories). Any shop will do but only get from reputable AP distributors (if you plan to go AP) or just make sure you're getting from the appropriate authorize distributor (if you plan to go original).

LOL! Just got myself a Dark Red G900 today, TS please at my name if there is a name list. I bought it in Lowyat shop called Mobile Arena, since they able to discount for me (but I think mine is display set). I bought it at RM1430 + RM20 (for a good screen protector worth RM30) + Sandisk M2 4GB card in Sri Comp at RM89. It is full package including original Bluetooth Headset, stereo headset and other cables. (**It's AP set**)
Ok, let me do a simple review of what I think of the phone after using for 8 Hours.
First of all, G900 supports G band for WIFI. My router is set for broadcasting only G band for very long time already and old laptop with only B band wifi card can't even connect my network, but G900 can connect it without any problem at all.
Ok, let's go to another point. If you're kind of person who's fast in navigating non-OS phone (means ur action is faster than the system respond), G900 will be disappoint you. The speed of G900 is average, not to say very fast but it doesn't hang (hard reset kind). When you're doing something that will affect the whole system, you will get urself a hang situation (but it actually doesn't hang, you just need to wait). Changing themes can be scary and slow. Overall speed is "so so".
About the camera, G900 was said to have the worst camera in 5MP cameraphone history. However, if the light condition is ok, this photo quality will be quite decent. Video recording in QVGA resolution (320x240) at 15 fps, if you're not moving too fast with the camera, the quality of the video can be decent as well. Speaker, loudness is cool but the speaker has best sound quality at 70 to 80% volume. G900 produces loudness at the same level with my w810i when w810i is 100%, G900 80%. Anything above 80% volume will causes noise.
Navigating is such a headache for new symbian user. Cause G900 allows you to view your media files in 2 diff way. One is thru File Manager (zooming picture can be painful) , one is the media manager. Media manager requires you to update the library everytime you modify your files. For people like me who too used to non symbian phone will be very confusing.
Quality and build of the phone is average, the houseing doesn't feel like a high end model. Keypad can be more solid and there are no touch sensitive button over the 3 white dot. Whenever you wanted to select the option above the 3 white dot, you need to touch the touch screen but not the white dots.
As for connectivity, bluetooth is at normal speed as all SE phones. WLAN is easy to connect and fast. But Opera browser doesn't performs good in non fit-to-screen mode. It's quite laggy for any website.
Oh ya, there are only 3 alarms available so if you want more you need to download other software for it.
Can't think of anything to write at the moment. But I have few questions, how can I make sure that the phone using only WIFI to surf net but not 3G? I not dare to activate my 3G first because of this.
And and... overall of this phone....is above average and it's pretty good if you compare the speed and touch screen responsive with P1i.

in your phone network selection, chose oni GSM. in this case you turn off 3G. Wifi hotspot are pretty easy to spot these days. No need 3G... unless you are unlimited data plan, paying for surfing on 3G will cost you a bomb not to mention 3G (I ma not refering to HSDPA) is all hype no substance. Its reali slow.

There is a function where at standby the screen look like Microsoft Outlook today. showing the daily calendar entry, inbox, task and missed call. Goto Setting - Display - Standby Application and choose business.
Catch is the touch panel is missing instead you get a list of shortcut that can open and collapse. Not very cool i must say. I'll stay with the touch panel for now. I am not that a busy man that i need to look at my Today to remind me of my life.
and a small report of my G900 and my BT headset. Yest suddenly my G900 is not transfering any sound to my bluetooth. I gotta reset my ohone to make it work again. don't kno why but after a song, its al silence. The controls are all still working but oni no sound on my BT headset.

And one more thing, I've been putting the brightness to 30% but my G900 still suck alot of battery. Is it becoz the first time I charge wasn't fulfill the 8 hrs requirement? or is there such requirement? I think with medium usage the phone can't last for one whole day. Providing I always close all the programs in task manager after I've used it. Will it be improvement in future? if like that G900 battery really isn't good.

Ic... thx davidmak for answering my question.
I found one solution for seperating 3G connection and WIFI for internet browsing. First, go to connection mgr then find internet account. Set ur 3G connection to one group and wifi AP for another group. And in setting, tick the show connection dialog. So whenever, you open the browser, it will prompt you which connection group to use for surfing internet. So it won't mixed up the 3G and WIFI connection. Coz i felt that not enabling 3G is not a good solution. ^^

And yeah, you just use the bundled earphones or maybe you can buy a third-party that allows you to connect your own 3.5mm earphones.

new SE all uses the fast port connect. You can get a earphone with 3.5mm jack. SE have plenty of those and they all look cool too. The bluetooth stereo eaphone i got (HBH-DS220) oso uses a 3.5mm jack.

kinda weird, I'm not a heavy user but my G900 hang-ed (force shutdown) twice in 2 days, during normal usage like listening music + sms. Today's battery life not bad. haha I overcharge it while the phone switched off.

this looks like a perfect phone to replace my aging N70
advantages
-3g
-lighter than N70
-SE phone fonts are more legible than n70 small thin fonts
-organizer and alarm functions
-large screen for a phone
can the symbian application from N70 run on this symbian. i usually use the blacklist application, so if anybody has some idea or using it on this phone do tell. thanks

My G900 have been quite well behaves. So far it still has not hand on me yet. So far only once i have "un-scheduled" re-boot cause my phone is not transfering the sound to my blurtooth headset.
G900 comes with Li-Poly battery which minimise the memory effect. I think if u use the normal charger (not the USB), from zero to full bar takes about 2.5hours. Li-Poly battery can take partial charging better so don't be too worry. Li-Poly don't have to charge 8hr initially.
A not very scientific comparison... my K500i original battery is Li-Io battery. last me only 1 yr before the battery bloated. I got a replacement Li-Poly battery and its now 3 yrs and still can last me 3-4 days between charge (2 days i heavy use).

ok... For now I think mt batt life can last 2 days with medium usage. Flight mode during sleeping hours about 8 to 9 hrs. Hope SE will come out with the latest firmware, just can't wait to c some improvement for G900. ^^
Oh ya, guys, do you feel that the key 4 and 7 is quite hard to press.

After few days of usage. The phone kinda laggy. I really hope SE release the latest firmware for us. Else my fren will laugh and critic my precious G900 to the max of being stupid and slow. (Although I doesn't think so)
Today I went to my coll and tried the WIFI. When I press scan the phone gone blank and auto restart. After restarting it shows a msg saying the phone auto restart to perform better performance. I mean WTH, why I'm in other places WIFI has no such thing but only my coll. And it applied to everytime I scan the AP in my coll. Somemore, I didn't open any application background, RAM and CPU usage shud be in minimum state. Just very weird....
and after that incident. My phone started to behave strangely for SMS. When sms came it didn't alert me. Only applied for SMS but not other function. Luckily after my force shutdown and restart the phone back to normal. Really really hoping SE will fix these problem... or just 208mhz not enuff?

thx for the link.
Anyway, for those who encounter laggy G900 and always hang. Please do master reset. It can speed up ur phone to the extent that you no need to restart ur phone anymore. ^^
