It already is better than WinMo. You don't need to tap the screen 5-6 times just to open the task manager  tongue.gif

Added on November 13, 2008, 4:34 pm

I think its because "there aren't enough users". But then that is SE's fault. There are...6 or 7 UIQ models. Compare that to...I don't know how many, but there are a lot of S60 models by Nokia compared to 6-7 by SE (and 2-3 by Motorola - no one knows they exist tongue.gif).

ohh dun know how to say doh.gif
panda-man
yeah. from people that i talked to they seem to like UIQ as well. i used to use winmobile. it was quite cool. except it did seem difficult to find things. but i was using an O2 model. so they had changed the interface from the ori winmobile. so dunno.

i personally like the uiq better. except. winmobile had this search feature where its like T9 dictionary. but to search for contacts. that was really cool.

can we do this on UIQ?

Oh yeah guys.. i heard from my friend that the price of the phone will go up next month wor... not sure whether true or not  rclxub.gif

QUOTE(masterzombie @ Nov 13 2008, 03:19 PM)
Symbian was founded by Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola, and maybe others. Now, Symbian is completely owned by Nokia AND is open source (or going to be soon). UIQ and S60 are only user interfaces, so any app written for S60 theoretically can be easily ported for UIQ if the author wishes to. So don't worry, only the UI of the G900 is going to die, not the OS wink.gif Even so, its not like UIQ is completely useless.

Btw, "G" stands for "Generation Web".
*

what you mean by UI die and not OS? rclxub.gif
do you mean symbian will change the interface but use back the OS function?? or UIQ will discontinue and develop a new version of symbian??

I think we can, if we learn how to program for Symbian and UIQ tongue.gif
But I like UIQ better than S60 anyway, its a bit neater and more organized.

I like WinMo too, except the interface. But when WinMo 6.5/7 comes out, its going to change, I hope. For now, HTC Touch HD (800x480 screen blink.gif) is the ultimate phone for me.

Well, UIQ and S60 are just user interfaces. Under them, its the same operating system (sort of like TouchFlo3D on Windows Mobile). You might have noticed similarities between them, like the folder structures and stuff. If you write a symbian program that doesn't need any user input, it should (theoretically) work on both S60 and UIQ phones.

But since UIQ is largely touch based, SE has modified the OS to suit its needs, and so has Nokia.

Symbian will still live, and will be open source, so I think everyone can freely install it on their phones. Nokia is also adding touch functionality to Symbian, so maybe SE will STILL have Symbian phones, but with S60? Its just speculation, but Symbian isn't dead yet biggrin.gif (still has the largest market share in mobile OSes)

First nokia touchscreen phone is 7700.
The coming ones will be 5800 express music aka nokia TUBE.
masterzombie
Yep, the 5800. 7700 was a "special" phone. Also very old.

But 5800 is just a music phone, not the ultimate flagship model. That will come even later. Looks good.

But, the G900 is unique. I don't think you can efficiently use any of the other touch phones with just one hand wink.gif

that feature is call Smart Dialing, SE have it on some of its latest phones such as W910 and W595.i wonders why is it not on G900 or UIQ.seriously, thats the only feature from WM that i miss, maybe the threaded messaging of WM6.1 is the 2nd thing i miss

Hello guys, wanna ask a question for G900 users

Can we install or have PTT Software in this phone ?
masterzombie
There is a PTT software for S60 :|
Surprising, I thought it was hardware based.
http://www.celtius.com/s.asp?p=665

Might be for UIQ too...didn't search too much.

hey dude. good to hear it worked hahahah. i dunno why the phone does things like this. maybe its a glitch. but it must be a router issue as well cause it works with some and not all. i think its a bit odd. oh well.

If you convert it to 3gp 320x240 and high bitrate (800+), it look pretty good on the phone.

.jad = Java Application Description - this includes some information about installation path, file size, vendor name, version etc. and is not required on phones

.jar = Java Archive - compressed version of the Java classes and images etc, that make up the application. This can be opened with ZIP software.
