May i ask, does BolehVPN untrottle everything IPS are throttling? Rapidshare/Megaupload/Torrent/P2P/Youtube etc?

Would also like to ask, whats the average speed of a 512kbps line routing through the BolehVPN servers?

First of all let me explain what routing is using cars and roads as metaphors for data and routes.

1. Just imagine data as a car travelling along a road.

2. Sometimes TM messes up its roads by closing off certain routes, or its road has many potholes, the road goes to nowhere, or takes a very long detour to get to the destination.

3. These problems on TM's road or its partners causes slowdown in your connection.

I doubt TM does these routing mess-ups intentionally and it seems to be more of a matter of incompetence on their part (which is according to my sources, slowly being restored after 2 months of hell).

VPNs MAY help with routing issues by giving you an alternate route (that means taking you on a road that is better), but this is not guaranteed.

Our main weapon against TM's throttling is encryption which prevents them from analyzing the traffic. This is totally legitimate technology that is used by companies to secure their corporate communications though is normally only available to high-end corporate customers.

Now on to your questions:

Rapidshare/Megaupload despite popular belief, are NOT throttled YET (there seems to be some efforts for TM to do this but as of yet this has not come into force). The slow speeds people are facing are due to routing issues. A VPN technically should not help this.

Youtube similarly is not being throttled and is once again a routing issue. A VPN may not help in this regard either though it may give you an alternate routing.

Torrents and P2P are however actively throttled by TM and this is something a VPN can help with.

On a 512 kilobit connection (which is equivalent to technically 64 kiloBytes/sec as there a 8 bits to a byte) and then taking out the protocol overhead (the stuff that these modems need to talk to each other and negotiate as to how to send data), you can expect to get about 50 + kB/sec on a well seeded torrent.

AS mentioned in our homepage and support forum, we are currently performing some minor upgrades to ensure that the servers are in tip-top conditions. Some of the servers has also undergone memory upgrades and new servers are added in to accomondate more users. As of 6PM, all upgrades has been completed and all servers are operating normally. However I might be doing a stress test to simulate failover conditions during the night if necessary. IF this is performed, there will be a very brief disconnection 3-5 minutes for the vpn to allocate you to our other servers. The stress test will be done sometimes between 3am-6am, if I'm awake and when most of you are already asleep and your vpn client should be connecting automatically when this is happening.

Hi Reuben,
Earlier this month i subscribed as a first time subscriber for boleh vpn. Connection seems smooth and my connection always goes up above 50kb.I am very happy with the performance. But for the past 2 to 3 days ago until today my connection only remains at 1kb to 2kb and sometimes 10 to 20kb and then drop back to 5kb to 1kb again which results very slow performance. Do u know what went wrong. I would appreciate if you could advice me here. Thanks.

Hey... not sure if anyone else having problems, but I can't seem to connect to any trackers....

Always give me a proxy error: connection refused.

Also, I get alot of these messages in my openVPN:

We believe that TM has done it again. Connections to most international site is very erratic the last 2 days. We see a lot of connections and disconnections lasted for 1 minutes before it connects again. Even connecting from TM datacenter resulted in the same behavior.

Please feel free to submit tickets to TM call center on this issue. Our local data center upload is now at 5KB/s,lol, ftp or http.

Yesterday the situation back to normal after 6PM and start again after 10am today.
