i'v read in a few forum's they are people having issues with overclocking a 64bit vista.
looks like i wasn't alone.
i would like to know if there is anyone here has successfully overclocked on a 64bit vista without any boot issues.

my problem is that during the windows boot screen, when it finishes booting, there is a flash bsod then it reboots. even on stock settings. i think i just need to reformat.
Could be bad drivers and or bad installation. Safe mode BSODs as well ?
safe mode works perfectly though..

What values did you change exactly ? Tried using the BIOS deafults ? x64 is quite notorious for video driver hangs. Might want to do a clean uninstall and install of the drivers. Mobo drivers first (if any) before the vga ones.

even with the default settings it still has booting issues. i didn't install any mobo driver. only the vga driver. but when i ran 3dmark and some gaming, it never hangs.
Er, hardware list please. And you should really install those mobo drivers at the very least (Intel inf for Intel chipsets and forceware drvers for Nforce mobos). So you can boot at times ?
I am also having boot issues to with x64. My monitor will go into sleep mode and my DVD drive will endlessly reads as soon as it enters Vista. However at certain times, I goes with issue. I am suspecting old BIOS version, might upgrade to F11 bios later to see how it goes. Anyway I am stock settings for now.
In your case Mike, I believe it's the BIOS for your Gigabyte P35 board (remember reading some issues with 4GB and older BIOS releases around these forums). Update and share with us your results yah.

Sure no problem. Will do it later. Upgrading BIOS in x64 environment is a hassel.

the BSOD is too fast i cant read anything. but when i try to fix the startup by using the dvd boot, i manage to go thru the error details and saw the phrase "bad driver"
Bad raid problems or the display drivers. Since both mike and you are using the DS3, best to update to the latest BIOS. If you google around, there are some horror stories regarding the Rev 1.0 of the board.

its not raid and not vga. i just did a startup repair with system restore removing the faulty driver. have no idea which driver tho..
everything seems much more stable now and managed to get higher clock with low vcore, considering the amount of vdroop DS3 has..
bro Eoma,post ur result here..any benchmark share with us pls..
try to boot up with 2gb ram and see how it goes?

My latest OC on x64:
The PC running into sleep mode as I noted earlier seems to went away. BIOS still at version F10. It seems the problem lies on the power option setting on Vista. Earlier I have set to Balance and now switch to Performance instead.

its much more stable now. 99% boot free error. it seems that i have a bad driver and i have no idea which driver

After reading bryanyeo's article, I messed around and got these 3 results (I did a few other FSBs, but let's settle on 3).
The usual speed running at 12:8 ratio -

Just a small update, got it running 430x7 @ 1:1 now. RAMs at 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1V. Vcore @ 1.360v. Vtt and vNb at stock.
Crashes at ~ 5mins mark in Orthos blend. But hasn't crashed yet in 3dmark06, World In Conflict, UT3 or Crysis.

take memtest windows and run..256mb would do..lets say 20 mins??
or 512mb for one hour..
willing to bet ure NB is undervolted.
and ure fsb termination voltage is not optimal for that bus.

i don't think your NB is undervolted unless your FSB is 500 and since your on a dfi mobo, it should be alright. but if your system crashes, what you could do at most is just increse the NB to +0.1

I did earlier. Didn't help. Still reported errors around the same 5+ minute mark.
try increasing the vcore then, might be your vdroop. btw, how's your temperature like?

Hmmm, with 4 sticks, my tRFC is pretty high, and performance level is at 12. I'll get a memset shot in later.
ezinger : My temps are 47-48 idle, and 65-68c load. Using the stock cooler with AS5. I have a fan over the northbridge so it's at 38-41c. SB temps are higher at 51c under load, which is about 3-4c higher than my 8800GTX ambient temp. The GTX sits right above the SB, so can't do much about cooling.

dont worry about SB.. they dont get stressed much.. and temps dont fluctuate
try memtest windows.. and run 256mb .. u will see ure nb temps go up..
and dude 4 sticks u need to keep that tRFC high.. better .. not much performance gain.. my sticks are rated at 23..
ocz fans are petitioning against asus mobo's who keeps tRFC lower than 42. which is causing a lot of problem for 4 sticks. in XS
most NB is advisable to keep it lower than 60C..

Oh ok. my tRFC is 48 or 60, can't remember. NB is always at the temps stated so no worries there.
