Look at Htkaki's thread. It's much cheaper there.
Specs wise...we cant demand much as it's a RM2k+ TV. Not bad and worth the price.

samsung vs sharp, which one is better...

i'm planning to buy my mom a new lcd tv, 32 or 37 inch, within budget around 2.5k.. so, guys, any updates on the model and pricing?.. which shop better.. SenQ or Seng Heng

Am considering between a 32" TV Samsung Series 5 & Samsung 24" Monitor T240. Price is about rm600 difference.

Would like to know for Video Game & Computer Monitor use, which one is a better choice? I compared the specs of TV & Monitor, seems TV wins hands down on the numbers. Only thing is the 32" TV has bigger pixel than the 24" monitor.

Just like to know is there any catch for this? Why monitor tend to have longer response time, less contrast ratio but are usually more expensive compared to TV of same class?

It's a matter of personal preference, we cant get the best of both worlds
I reckon looking at 32" TV as a monitor is very weird due to the pixel size
Most TVs boost their contrast ratio by using dynamic contrast/ artificial touch up
Don't look solely on the specs, trust your eyes icon_rolleyes.gif

How far are you planning to sit away from your display? That's the most important thing to think about before looking at specs

What the guys here meant is distant you are viewing the monitor from. If you just mention near or far, it is relative and no one can help you there...not don't want to help you but can't help you at all icon_rolleyes.gif

Exact numbers are easy.

As close as 50cm for monitor use

As far as 300cm for TV use.

Good enough for an answer?

I'm using a 32" LCD TV for a monitor and I'm sitting close as if I'm using like a normal computer.... No problems so far.... Played both PC games and consoles as well on same display..... Very satisfied so far.... The onli thing different between LCD TV and computer monitor is the resolution.... If u dun intend to push for higher resolutions on ur PC and still wan a bigger screen, then go for LCD TV.... If not, go for monitor.... As for me, I got the LCD TV just to play consoles..... Later might think of getting a 30" monitor if I got the money to replace it coz of resolution.....

What is your current resolution? The Samsung 32" A550 i was talking about has full HD though the pixel are still bigger than Monitors it should be at least twice as cheap as a 30" Monitor.

Resolution is maxed at 1920 X 1080...
I tell you it's very weird when you sit near to it as a monitor
As a HDTV, it's good for watching HD content

Anyone know the best price for Samsung T240? Anyone selling T260?

I've asked around, seems like T240 costs RM1600 upwards.. so you decided to stick with monitor? Why not wait for Benq's new models? brows.gif

Haven't decided whether to go for TV or Monitor yet. Wanna have a better idea on the cost difference.

What's the new BenQ monitor? Size and estimated price? I would seriously prefer 26" over 24".

gundamalpha
Benq 24 inch, E2400W/M2400W, 1920x1080 pixels (that's 16:9 ratio, Full HD). Not sure what's the price yet but many estimates around RM14XX for the higher end one. 26 inch too expensive for gaming purpose IMO, not worth it.

So compare the Samsung & Benq which you recon will give better visuals?

My friend told me in China 24" & 26" are priced rather close to each other and they are promoting 26".
gundamalpha
If you are using it strictly for console gaming and movies, not for PC gaming then 16:9 is better, so go with Benq. For me I would choose Samsung because I have other use (although I settled for Acer's G24 but that's because I can't get T240 in my place here). I wouldn't go with Chinese brands as their back up service are close to none, PQ aside.

Hey...guys. I just got my PS3 recently and I am in the midst of looking for a 32" LCD TV to go with it. There are some points that I am still unsure about what to look for in a LCD TV so hopefully someone here can shed some light on this matter :

1. Full HD (1080p) - A lot of reviews/comments stated that 1080p is not important for any LCD below 40" but from what I have seen Full HD LCD does produce clearer pictures compared to regular HD Ready LCD although not as significant as a larger size LCD.....so the same question...is this neccessary ?

2. Refresh Rate (100Mhz, 120Mhz) - Does this have any effect on a 32" ? Does this also make HD Ready LCD (100+Mhz) a more worthwhile purchase than a Full HD LCD running at 1/2 the speed (60Mhz) ?

3. Contras Ratio and Black Level - From what I heard anything with a CR above 5000:1 is already enough but does higher contras ratio produce better pictures ? The standard these days seems to be more than 10000:1 but I have seen some LCDs with less CR (i.e. Sharp Aquos) so how do they stack up against LCDs with higher CR ? Please also do tell me which LCD currently has the best Black Level (My guess will be Sony hmm.gif )

4. HDMI Cable - From what I have heard from my friend high quality HDMI cables (RM150-RM200) produce much better images than regular HDMI cables (RM60-RM100).

At the moment I am considering the following models for the following reason :

a) Panasonic Viera 32LZ800?? (should be "MK" I think) : My top choice at the moment. Full HD, 100Mhz, SD card slot & very nice picture quality but unsure of it's availibiliy in Malaysia (Anyone know any local dealers carrying this model please do tell notworthy.gif )

b) Panasonic Viera 32LX800MK : Same as above only without the full HD support and I don't like the silver lining on the panel tongue.gif .

c) Samsung 32A650 : Full HD, DNie 2, nice frame design although the colour reproduction is not as good as some other LCDs and it's not running at 100Mhz (only for 40" above) but the Black Level is excellent.

d) LG 32LG70 : Has all the bells and whistles but little is known about this model as it doesn't seem to be available here (same as Panas Viera LZ series) so hope someone can tell me where I can look for it.(I've also heard that LG black level is not that good but not sure if it's the same with this model.)

e) Sony Bravia V Series KLV-32V400A : Produce the best colour saturation (almost too viabrant blink.gif ) but it's not the cheapest HD Ready LCD around. (Plus I heard it doesn't do well for gaming)

f) Toshiba Regza 32CV500 : Cheapest LCD set on my list but the picture quality is almost on par with Panas 32LX800MK but without the 100Mhz support of course.

Suggestions and comments are welcome. Thanks in advance.
gundamalpha
1. Noticeable if you are sitting at the right distance

2. Not noticeable unless you are used to higher settings

3. No industry standard for contrast ratio, believe in what you see on the screen, not the figures

4. I said it before and I'll say it again, this is BS
HellJoker
actually my situation are almost same as tanleeseng mention above, + i would lik to use the LCD as monitor as well (to play wow...XD)

which monitor should I choose additional to the option tanleeseng mentioned above plus this :
Sharp Aquos LC-32A53M (32-inch LCD)

thanks in advanced..biggrin.gif

erm...btw...wats BS?? laugh.gif
gundamalpha
BS = bull shit, in digital world you either get transmission or not, nothing in between, either a 1 or a 0. Cheap cable gives you 1, so does expensive cables only gives out 1. Either the cable works, or not.
HellJoker
erm...but isnt a better cable cause lesser resistance and so the quality will transmit smoother??...
not sure bout that tho....peace..
gundamalpha
That's for analog, and HDMI isn't analog. Very easy to understand if you imagine a digital pad vs analog pad. In digital pad, either a button is pressed or not, while analog you can adjust how much is being pressed. Of course, if you want to spend a couple hundred for a cable then by all means go ahead.
HellJoker
I'm not sure...thats y i ask here rite??
gundamalpha
My apology if you feel offended by my words, I was merely pointing out if you feel more secure with those expensive cables, then go ahead. What I was saying was to tell fellow gamers here not to waste money, can buy a game or 2 with those money. But if you are not convinced, then buy monster cables although it really isn't necessary.
zenquix
different cables might give you different BER rates but should only be apparent on long distances. You should actually be wary of cheap cables only for the reason that certain resolutions are not supported due to how it is made (soldering/connection to pins etc.) I bought a not-so-cheap cable that could only do 576p. 720p flickers.. and 1080i/1080p is a black screen.

I returned the cable after one day tongue.gif
BeastX
never/avoid spending more than RM30 (RM15 or lower would be the best) for HDMI cable (1 or 2 m)

Can anyone tell me which model is better?

Samsung LA32A550 32"LCD TV Series 5 FullHD 1080P?

Sony 32" W Series 1080 LCD TV KDL32W4000?

why sony is so much expensive than samsung?
gundamalpha
It has been explained so many times, for Sony products you are paying a premium for their marketing and packaging, while other brands' prices depend on the quality of their products
juniorpop
There is no video showing gaming on a 100Hz LCDTV?
I'm thinking of getting one of those.
eone
man.. i saw this Philip model 42pfl5403 at courts, they put it side by side with Samsung and Sony Bravia and channeling same movie.. and it surely pawns those two. It displays movie like 60fps compared to 30fps on Sony and Samsung.. and looks cleaner. anyone here use this model?

Where did you buy it as I only saw it on newspaper that offers with the predator.

How does it fair against BenQ W2400 as both of them have the same spec other than G24 have higher contrast ratio.

Also how many years is the warranty?

Hi everyone. Just bought a Panasonic 32LX700MK for RM1499. My first HDTV. Have not done any research prior to the purchase , cos it's limited stock available and also within my budget. Anyone here with the same model, can share xperience? brows.gif

I tot aso. Cheap. But it was a clearance sale from COURTS. They got 7days return policy if not satisfied and 1 year manufacturer warranty from Panasonic. nod.gif

I bought it from a shop, comes with 1 year manufacturer warranty. Can't compare how it fares against other monitors as looking for a 24 inch is hard as rock here. It looks brighter and more crisp than the HP 24 inch one though, that's all I can say.
