I got myself a new Philips LCD 32' TV. But it is kinda sucks when watching local stations. Is there a solution for it?

I would like to know does it make big difference whether a Computer Monitor can out put Full HD or less than Full HD for smaller size around 20" to 24".

Also do we need Monitor to have HDCP if planning to use it on a PS3?

Another question, what are the options for Full HD TV that's under RM4000? I saw a toshiba Regza 32" is selling at US999, not sure the price and availability over here.

FUll HD LCD TV at 4k is quite hard to obtain, I've never seen it btw. Even the premium Sony S and V Series won't go that low of a price.

many people have reiterated again and again, that anything below 42" isnt worth buying for 1080p,since you wont see much of a difference(if any at all)
advocado
Well, not really. Depends what u use it for. And most importantly how far you sitting behind the TV? For me I might consider hooking up a PC as a monitor too, might also play new PC games on it, so I do believe resolution does matter even on smaller screen size.

If you are always watching from a distance like watching movies, I agree with you. I'm so used to my 15.4" laptop monitor i'm sure 32" TV pixel will look way too big (if i use it as a monitor) compared to my monitor if it's not 1920x1080 resolution.

If not manufacturers won't be selling high resolution 24" Monitors right?

What connection you using? I tried it on a 1380 32" before using VGA input, seems the text not as sharp as using my laptop, but quite near. Maybe try switching to digital HDMI or DVi to HDMI might help.

i use a vga connection,works good enough.
for videos, just change the settings to sharpen the images.
text is blurred abit,or else get eye strains with the sharpness

Ok then... maybe I'll get a 720p 32" TV and a 26" 1920x1200 monitor.

Save the fuss of switching between TV and monitor and won't have to worry about getting laughed because I bought a 32" Full HD TV when it seems obsolete to 99% people...

Also won't get eye shore because of using a bigger TV as a Monitor...

If so I would be happy because I won't have to worry about upgrades in the future since 720p is good enough, and technologies can't make human eyes improve that much to tell the difference.

Thanks for the response.

Save ur money and get the 720p. Didn't you read all the post above? (Just joking)

Based on our fellow forumers: "Nobody can tell the difference between 1080p & 720p for 50" below." & "Nobody will sit so close to a TV to be able to tell the difference". But seriously I've been to Best denki, Sony Stores, Harvey Normans, but I really dunno what resolution demos they use so I cannot make comments whether 1080p is worth it or not below 50". It would be best if you can go to individual shops and ask them to play 1080p & 720p together (on the same size TV) and see for yourself.

Hope Toshiba will release their Regza 32" FULL HD TV soon over here, they are selling it in US for merely USD999, cheaper than those 720p Sonies. It would be a good idea to wait a month or two as I believe makers are starting to release 1080p on 32" LCD and hopefully 720p will be replaced.

Follow what your feeling tells you. If you can afford the additional few hundreds to get Full HD, get it. I'm sure even at a Pityful 32" you will be able to tell the difference, just remember to sit close enough.

HD TVs are meant to be watch closer than conventional TVs so you can experience the details. If you plan on sitting far away like you used to, you don't even need HD TV, CRT TV are good enough in terms of details and you don't need to stretch your RTM1,2,3 & Astro so they look fat.

That's my conclusion after few days of searching and debating. The rest is up to Hands-On Visual Inspection haha. But 1st need to find a shop that i can do that...
tot31
I just want to share my experience here. The difference in PQ in terms of a normal sitting distance (6ft - 8 ft) from a LCD tv (HD content, 720p) and a normal CRT tv (SD content, 480i) is really distinguishable.

Most of my friends who came to my house and watched BD movies and 720p mkv movies said the PQ of HD movies are super great compared to DVD movies on a CRT tv.

Why Astro, RTM, TV3, NTV7, TV9 or even DVD movies sucks on LCD tv? The answer is simple, all those signals are being broadcasted in 480i and then it's been displayed/output on 1366 x 768 panel, so it's like zooming out the picture, whereas a CRT tv resolution is 480i.

well, yesterday i went to best denki in KLCC to take a look for the HDTVs.. there's one place where Samsung Series 5 & 6 32" FullHD put together with a Sharp Aquos 32". The video being played is the same. what I notice is that, the Samsung's tv are noticable clearer in details and color than the Sharp's. I dont know whether it is because of the 1080p or not.
samsung series 5 is selling at 3799.

from reading the manual,i know this 32S400A accepts 1080p.
but if it downscales the resolution of 1080p to 720p,why then does pressing the screen mode to change the mode to Original make the video smaller?
Normal fits the screen, but Original shrinks the image.

playing 1080p media,on the other hand, fits the screen both on Original mode and Normal.

why's there shrinking with 720p media, when it should be full screen since this tv claims not to project 1080p?anyone know?

to answer your question mgsrulz,

as you know most of the 720p sources resolution are 1280 (vertical) x yyy(horizontal), yyy normally doesn't exceed 720. The vertical is normally fixed but the horizontal is always varies. All Bravia non Full HD LCD tv has a native 1366 x 768 resolution, so when you set to the Original it'll display the original size of the source for example 1280 x 688 and that's why the source will be smaller. When you set to Normal, it will upscale it to fit into 1366 x 768.

In the other hand for 1080p sources, the resolution of the source is always 1920 (vertical) x yyy (horizontal), where yyy doesn't exceed 1080. So for this source it will always fill up the LCD tv screen to 1366 x 768 no matter Normal or Original mode you set on your tv.

So you will see a bit of difference of PQ between a 1080p and 720p if you look really close.
Mgsrulz

I was comparing Samsung's 6 Series with the rest of the models... picture quality and color was so much better. Even if to compare with the 5 series model, there's so much difference in picture quality.

The Full HD Samsung 42" 6 Series was fantastic... except the price. 8k. My gosh. The 5 series 42" cost only half of it. Saw it at Denki the other day.

bro TheUndead mind telling me the experience using the KLV-32S400A...??
what's the price currently those set...? might consider getting it
TheUndead
I bought mine for RM2,300. You can probably get it for RM2,200 or less right now. But not it Sony Shops la. They retail is for RM2,499 IINM.

I'm using it primarily for my PS3 games, a little of BD movies and connecting it to my PC via VGA for some Xvid movies also. So far, not complaints from me yet. It's what I expect from the lowest line in the Bravia Series. Its image quality needs a little tweaking (contrast/backlight/color temp) to achieve the best output but that normally depends on your eyes I guess. LOL

It's at best you go to the shop, test them for yourself. I could've picked the V-series but considering the price difference, I opted for the much less fancy S-Series. As long as it gets the job done for me smile.gif
dcorperation
the differ between s-series and v-series is the sony bravia engine is it...
