toratora, go compare the LCD yourself. And I;m not sure you can get price lower than that for Sony. Sharp 42A63M is around 6499
*

can share where you get the price of 6499???

I know sony is sufficent but i greedy for a bigger size sad.gif

if 42A63M is 6499 then cheaper than sony already
welwitchia
Since u guys are considering the W400.. I guess u should know this too..

On my W400, under "dim" conditions and a viewing a black JPEG, i noticed a very slight uneven greyish area on the top right.. Not a biggie but just u should know, its not perfect. Its also impossible to check while u're in the shop unless u ask them to turn the TV on in a pitch black room. I just check for dead pixels when I bought mine. I'm pretty sure the Sharps or any other LCD TVs will have the same issue.. Wonder if the plasmas have the same problems.

I think we should be watching the movie instead of the technology.. I dunno about u guys but if u go read the Blu-ray thread, ppl there seem to be buying the blu-rays because of the PQ and AQ. I think that's wrong.. tongue.gif
toratora
^ sshhh....

rx is very active there biggrin.gif

hehe true true what u say.... about the buy because of the movie
welwitchia
I know he's active there. In fact he's famous for his hamsup movies. Self professed of having a hamsuplogy degree.. biggrin.gif
tot31
I don't have any light bleeding or dead pixel problems with my D series, totally satisfied with it. Furthermore I've bought this user posted image

and did the calibration last night and the result for PQ is even much better.... thumbup.gif thumbup.gif It comes with Blue, Red and Green filters so that you can properly calibrate the color output of your tv. The BD explains in details about HD stuffs and how to calibrate your HDTV the right way.
welwitchia
^ I bought that Blu-ray too. While its not completely useless, its just not worth the price. There are no new materials.. Everything in there is taken from the old DVD that I have too.
tot31
Well since you already have the DVD version, you shouldn't have bought it. As for me I don't have it before so I think it's worth it.
lapaq
Tot, can pinjam..I want to calibrate too
eric8188
have any1 been using KLV-40W400A series to connect PC in FULL HD mode(1920*1080)??

Is this TV capable to do so?
welwitchia
^ Yep... No problem if u connect using HDMI. Did it using Notebook (HDMI) to W400 (HDMI). Just make sure u enable 1:1 pixel mapping on the W400.
I3eerI3elly
I'm looking forward to buy a bigger size LCD TV like 46" to 50" Full HD. Anyone know the best price at the moment for the different brand?
rx330
eh, u guys, i not ard, toking behind my back is it? sad.gif

ah tot and welwit, tat disc susah to calibrate or not?
welwitchia
Rx, I dunno about tot, but I don't recommend getting that blu-ray. Its not difficult to calibrate.
rx330
its not difficult, but why aint u recomending it? or u got other better methods?
tot31
rx, the disc is very easy to use to calibrate. there's a cheaper/free way to calibrate where you can download PLUGE test pattern and color bars but you still have to buy/get a blue filter in order to get good color result. If you have Casino Royale disc, there is already a PLUGE + color bars test pattern, just press triangle at the movie menu and key in thie number, 7669 and then ENTER.

what welwetchia meant was, you can buy the dvd version rather than the BD version because it's cheaper.
rx330
tot, the test thingy is available on all sony bluray disc movie, 7669 tands for sony mar biggrin.gif

even iwth test pattern, no proper guide, also dunno how to tune

the callibration disc would teach u step by step wat to do?

I dunno about 100Hz panels but I thought what's important is the panel's ability to support 24p and the W400 does support it.

U might wanna read the review on a 100Hz display (a kick a$$ one too)
http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/Samsung-LE40F86BD/

Here's a quote from the review
*

If I'm not wrong, the F8 has a bug with the 100 Hz motion plus not working as it should. I think even on the Bravia X series, you need to turn off the Motion plus and manally set the refresh rates to multiples of 24 Hz to make 1080/24p playback possible.

Anyway, there is a difference between a panel that accepts 1080/24p and converts it to 1080/60p via 3:2 pulldown process and panels that really play 24p material at 2:2 (48 Hz), 3:3 (72 Hz), 4:4 (96 Hz) and 5:5 (120 Hz).

BTW, I just got the 46W400A and as much as any other new owners of the W400 series, I want to believe otherwise but the more I read, the more I'm convince that my earlier understanding about 1080/24p is flawed. The only Bravia line that really plays back 1080/24p is the X series. cry.gif

Perhaps as a last effort thing when I get back, I'll check if the refresh rate on the W400 panel can be changed to multiples of 24 Hz (48 Hz, 72 Hz, 96 Hz, 120 Hz). If can, then it's possible to play back at 1080/24p. biggrin.gif

W series doesn't have 100Hz, the D and X series have and Sony 100Hz is not a hype...I own the D series and I can see the difference...D series also have 1080/24p true cinema...

Wait a minute... D series does 1080p?

I would choose LC42A63M over 40W400A.
Spec wise LC42A63M is better and more value for $$$.
LC42A63M is RM6,499.

Are you sure spec wise the A63 is better than the W400A? hmm.gif

Guys,

Some sharing of price and also your feedback on the below LCD. Heard that the Aquos PQ is not that good compare to Sony???

Price I got below is b4 negotiation/hagging

1. Sony 40W400A - RM6999

2. Sharp Aquos 42A63 - RM7499

3. Sharp Aquos 46A63 - RM 9499
*

Try the 46W400A. I was in the same shoes as you a few weeks back and compared the 46W400A with the 46A63 side by side. The Sony has better specs and slightly cheaper too.

I'll check mine. By default, the panel is VERY bright. Just got to calibrate mine last night with EyeOne Display 2 and I think I got it almost perfect skintones. Had to turn down the backlight down a lot.

To properly calibrate, you need an external probe to measure brightness, contrast and WB correctly.

Yup that's right. Through HDMI or through component. 1:1 mapping is not enabled by default. hmm.gif

For me, what I did was the DVI connector at the back of my notebook docking station and use a DVI to HDMI convertor to make connection to the TV.

Price should be somehwere close to 10k ballpark for the Full HD 1080p. Double the price if you go for 100 Hz and Full HD 1080p versions. Sony, Sharp, Toshiba ad Phillips offer comparable prices. Sony X series and Sharp A83 models are 1080p + 100Hz and their prices are way off the charts.

Is it really neccesary to have 100hz? Most LCD have 5ms refresh rate and that is ghosting free already. And also bluray 1080P original fps is only 24 and its already progressive scan. Personally I don't think its neccesary.

Anyway, most PS3 and XBOX360 games are in 720P so would the pictures after upscale to 1080P appear not as nice on a 1080P LCD. Like standard tv programs would look bad on current HD sets.

tis is a SD tv, not recomkendate for ps3, but very goo d for astro, dvd and ota channels
tot31
The best to calibrate your tv is by using colorimeters but they are very expensive. Using DVE or Avia is the least I can do to get good PQ rather than nothing or blindly playing with the settings of the tv. I calibrated a few times until I got the best PQ to my eyes.

rx, the DVE BD explained in details about HD (audio and video) and also all the test patterns and it has a few demo clips in 1080p and 720p.

Nope, I'm not selling this. I'm keeping it and will use this to help close and good friends to calibrate their LCD tvs. biggrin.gif
welwitchia
Here's why I don't recommend that blu-ray

1) If u have the DVD version, there's absolutely no need to get this.. I might be wrong but the content is almost 99% similar
2) Everything in there is "OLD". Even the demonstration material is old..u can tell by the hair style and the shirt that the actor/actresses are wearing
3) The demonstration material is no where as good as kinda stuff that u get from today's new Blu-ray movies.
4) The only true rendered 1080p material is some form of "cheap" computer graphics.
5) Its supposed to be HD Basic Blu-ray, but u wont find a LCD TV or Plasma inside..duh
6) The TVs they show inside are all CRTs. (that alone will give u an indication that they're recycling old materials)

I guess the only thing worth while is the RGB color filter that u can use to calibrate your colors.

I thought the brightness calibration was not too bad but my default TV settings (Cinema mode) is already very close or accurate to what they recommended.

Oh one last thing, the way they presented the materials is boring.. I was struggling to keep awake.

Hmm.. keep in mind, this is from someone who has owned the DVD version. If u have not seen the DVD like tot31, it might be worth while. smile.gif

rx, since welwetchia got 2 DVE, ask him to sell you the BD version. I've downloaded a free version of HD calibration tool called AVCHD and burn it into a DVD+R and it can be used with PS3.

This AVCHD is also an excellent HD calibration tool and it's totally free, all you need is to buy the blue filter which you can get it at any professional Photo/Camera shops.

Rx, if you're in KL, I'll sure will help you to calibrate your tv but since you're in JB, that's impossible...

Hi Guys,
I just bought my PS3 today so now emergency must buy LCD tv to play tongue.gif

Reccee at Jusco just now:
1. Sony Bravia 37" S series KLV 37s310a
8000:1 contrast, astro enhanced, 1366x768
RM4499

2. Sony Bravia 40" X series KLV40w400a
30000:1
RM7499

3. Haier 42" L42a16
DSM HD engine, 8000:1
RM4999

4. LG 42" 42C7R
10000:1
RM4499

5. JVC 42" LT42EX18
Clear SD
RM5099

My main purpose to play PS3 games, watch Bluray movies and of course watch ASTRO. Actually my budget below 5k la... if possible. Don't really need bigger than 40".

My worry is to get good quality picture for gaming and Astro. I read all the FAQ but still don't understand quite a lot. I know I'm aiming for below 12ms refresh rate ideally 5ms. Also higher contrast resolution the better. Definitely looking at HD ready is good enough right?

Also asking your advice what to ask when buying LCD tv. People at Jusco there not really knowledgeable or helpful. Harvey Norman helpful la but takut kena pancung there... Is there any shop you experts can recommend?

Thanks a lot.

I have this

So I recommend it tongue.gif
BTW, its a W series..not X
and it can be had for RM 7K or less.

Don't ask me how it looks with Astro.. I only use it for my DVDs, Blu-rays and PS3. Have yet to hooked up my Wii with it..

The only reason i'm replying this is I have nothing else to do while waiting for the damn GTA4 to install.. Arghhhh... biggrin.gif
1zR4eL
can recommend for me which brand and model i should get for budget rm2500 and below. really tight on budget. mainly used for playing ps3 and blu ray movie. thanks
abasan
Eh thanks... so for PS3 picture good is it? Well, at 7k its 2k above my budget. No lah I don't think I will get it. Spend spend but must take care also. 5k is my limit... have to cari another one.
