You know what?
My advice is to NOT intsall Vista at this time unless Service Pack 2 comes in.
Vista has a lot of bugs.
Not really, I haven't really gotten any problems since I updated to SP1.
QUOTE(dopodplaya @ Jun 2 2008, 10:15 AM)
Oi - noob, sorry to say what bugs are you mentioning? Don't claim something that you don't even know.
If you do not want to use Vista - then don't. Don't tell people about bugs. Bugs exists even you are not using Vista.
Don't post crap just to increase your post count.
Vista after service pack 1 fixes a lot of "bugs" and enchanced the system than the previous RTM release.
Even without service pack 1 - the update and roll ups is enough to maintain the system stability; but of course the service pack is recommended.
Agree on the bolded part.

All software we use have bugs! That says it all. There is no perfect software out there. If everything is perfect, software companies can close shop and programmers will be out of jobs as no new versions and updates will be released, since it's perfect.
I actually bought my new PC on the day Vista SP1 released, and didn't even realized until after i installed some required updates, Windows Update show me that SP1 is available, and I immediately download the full installer (5 language) so that I can also share the installer with friends.
Have been using SP1 for Vista since then and I can say, i did not face frequent problems, save for some occassional minor issues, well... like said, no software is free from bugs.

Wow, what a huge following to this thread.

Just a word of advise, beta versions of any Windows SP release are not meant for PC end users, they're meant solely for developers. So update at your own discretion and as far as i'm concerned, Microsoft does not offer tech support for beta releases.

Well, it is normal, but you can always do the usual housekeeping like cleaning off temporary files and ensure that your defrag is scheduled to run weekly.
Also try CCleaner software to clean all junks from the system.

AFAIK, they only offers

unfortunately.... Why does my Download have an error when installing it...........
its about 800F< something like that)... error occurred..........
i try to installed it again.... but it seems still the same problem...........
my question is...
"what is the problem actually?"
"does it caused by the installer i downloads or the Service Pack 1 instabilities on Vista " ( This Service Pack is New Upgrade)
another things.....
its rumored that Windows XP 64bits cant support most of the software?
(Is it true)<-- my final solution to maximizes the usage of that 4G ram....
hope my problem solved......

Hmm, not sure exactly what's your problem. Maybe a cleare description of the problem will let other help you.
If Windows XP 64bits don't support a particular software, there is a high chance that software won't run in Windows Vista x64 as well.

64 bit OS can emulate software in 32bit modes. But some might not work well. The real problems are drivers. Where 32bit vista can use 32bit XP drivers if there are no other drivers around, 64bit Vista and 64bit XP needs exclusively made drivers.
AskDS
Jun 25 2008, 01:07 AM
There isn't a lot of native 64-bit device driver available for XP and Vista. Also Vista 64-bit enforced that all device driver must be signed otherwise it can't load. That's the challenge most user faced when trying to move up to Vista 64-bit.

If you are not using the RTM version of SP1, then you'll hit the expiry which cause BSOD as the pre-RTM version of SP1 expired on 30 June 2008.

Hi guys!
Just a question. Is it advisable to update Vista to SP1 by using Windows Update or to download the file from microsoft directly?
I went to microsoft website and they strongly discourage to download the SP1 if I were to update only 1 PC?
Anyone can advice?
Edit : Also, if thru Windows Update, any workaround to enforce that my Windows are downloading SP1? I have updated my Windows when I did a fresh install, but I don't think my Windows Update did download SP1 as well when I went thru the list

Aug 14 2008, 09:42 PM
the main difference between the 2 methods is the amount to be downloaded. SP1 is mainly made up of past patches and hotfixes for Vista.
So if u ve a machine with Vista installed, it doesn't matter as both method will still grab roughly the same amount of files.
But if ur Vista machine has already been running for a while, and u have done all the updates regularly, then going for the Windows Update is preferred as u will need to download what is needed.
the complete SP1 file from MS Download Center is 400+MB...
