I have a canon 400d kit lens. If I were to invest in some accessories for my 400d, what should I get? I heard from some photographer friend that Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lens is a good investment. And if I were to get a flash, which one should I get: Canon Speedlite 580EX II or Canon Speedlite 430EX II.

Canon Speedlite 580EX II. The 50mm f1.4 is a good investment, but not essential. Get the 50mm f1.8 instead. smile.gif

What is the price range for 50mm f1.4 and 50mm f1.8 like?

Not sure. But i know for 300 you can get the 50mm f1.8 with a free UV filter as protection. Its cheap, its sharp, its light, just feels plastic like, but it never failed me. smile.gif

Lens mount for 50mm f1.8 is metal or plastic?

50mm f1.8 has a platic mount, built auility not that good but produces kind of great images. 50mm f1.4 is aroynd 1.2k if i'm not mistaken, better built quality and superb images too. But recommended to get the f1.8 instead for starters though, cheap and good. Almost a must have for every entry/semipro EOS users.

If you got extra cash to burn, 50mm f1.2L. XDDDD

I have the EF50 f1.4 and not happy with it. The pictures are sharp and constrastier...

BUT.... The power of background blur is not enought. Thus it fail to bring up the subject.

I tried the EF50 f1.2 L also same thing.

So I recommend the 85 f1.2 L or f1.8, the pictures are more powerful with these lenses, rather than 50mm.

I am not saying 50mm lenses are no good, just the pictures lack interesting... smile.gif

The EF135 f2 L also very good. It seem the more tele, the effect more geng. thumbup.gif

I think the only alternative for canon users for a 18-200mm vr alternative is the Sigma's 18-200mm OS lens.

Canon has something call EF28-300 USM IS L. The optical performance is pretty awesome across such huge range. I had seen the performance on 5D, pretty good and hard to believe from such huge zoom.

Believe it or not, more and more rich people are getting them.... shocking.gif

Thats one behemoth of a Push Pull Zoom L lens. Definetly works well with the full frame 5D.

Its the heaviest zoom, and prolly one of the most expensive in the Canon Zoom telephoto lineup retailing at RM10K+ Am I right?

You thinking of getting one? rclxm9.gif

I am not sure on the 70-200 f2.8 IS. Should be around RM6k.

While the cheapest for 100-400 L IS is RM5850... If you want, I can sell mine to you at RM5000, still got local warranty. I need the money for new camera body.... brows.gif

For the benefit of those who travel regularly, how do prices of lenses and other camera accessories line up between different countries... i.e. Singapore, Thailand, Japan, US, Indonesia compared to Malaysia?

Since Canon stuff made in Japan, naturally I believe Japan offer the cheapest price.

My 1200 f2.8 IS USM L is different...

It is built with alien technology and alien glass... Some said it is bio-tech... That's why the size not so big and still good for handheld.... thumbup.gif

So it is unfair to compare alien technology on earth.... shakehead.gif

because "most" A-mount lenses produce yummy bokeh.
And A-mount lenses are only used by Sony and Minolta tongue.gif
