Just wonder if any photography here really care where is the product you are buying made from ? Company like Canon and Sigma usually have their product made in Japan, whereas Nikon are mostly made in Thailand, China etc.

Since the price for these product is not cheap, do you think the quality made in Japan would be better compare to other country ? Would that be your consideration factor when choosing either of this camera or lens ?
webling
I would go for made in Japan. Quality is better albeit slightly pricier.

i do mind but you dont have much of a choice as specific lens or cameras or made in specific countries. it's just the way it is.
navilink
my F31fd comes from Japan...the warranty also japan only...luckily got english manual online...
goliath
When I bought my Canon, I didn't bother where it came from (as in manufactured from).

So, I don't bother as long the quality is there..

Personally, I would be particular about it's origins. Any camera that's made in Japan or Germany would give me one extra reason to get it. I also place preference for equipment that's manufactured in Thailand, but if it were to be from China, I would be quite hesitant.
anthrax33
well, if that particular model which you want to get is manufactured anywhere but japan you also have no choice mah.
made in japan is a bonus.
but if given the choice between japanese and other except zee germans, of course i'd choose japanese stuff.
heck, even fender guitars also i'd choose japanese made rather than us made.
quality wise, they are quite high (but not as high as german stuff, think leica) and consistent.
TheVoIP
Those high precision optic and equipments such as our camera and lenses are better made in Japan. There are obvious differences.

All my lenses and camera are 100% made in Japan and assmebled in Japan, except my flash gun diffuser + electric dry cabinet, which are made in China.

Speaking of this topic, this is also one of the reason why some of my friends refuse to buy the yellow brand camera because most of them now made in Thailand. I doubt if this is a right decision... sweat.gif

But keep in mind that there are some lenses that Japanese do beat the German;

+ Canon 50 f1.4 USM
+ Canon 85 f1.2 USM L
+ Nikon 14-24
Wifi_One
if both the selling price of Thailand made and Japan Made is the same or within the same range with little variance, who wouldn't go for made in japan?

given a choice at the above scenarion?

but my guess is that all camera makers would have some iso standard of manufacturing to ensure quality... else brand name destruction...

but when it comes to made in china.. i still abit hesitant to pay for anything above rm500.00.. better be safe than sorry.. lol

dont worry

Yes and No la... Sometime ISO standard does not mean much... as the stuff might break down at certain evironment...

I agreed with you on this part. I also scare of China.

I also found out that those compatable omnibounch diffucer from China suck... as color balance are off to yellow. You might see ok from the color of the diffucer, but not from the picture. It make lots of differences to old folks like us that do no have the magic power of photoshop...

Let's stop buying D300 until Nikon Japan realise it is a mistake of placing the production there... And buy D3 instead....

D3 is a better camera after all... laugh.gif

Ya... This lense beat Canon 50 f1.4 at f1.4... clearly... obviously...

But still dunno how it perform at stop down ma...

Because the older Canon 50 f1.4 is already proven to be the best via many many reviews as the world best... The f1.2 L is still kind of new ma...

Anyway, recently I found one major problem of the 50 f1.2 USM L, which may concern most of us. The problem is with the high price tag... until I cannot afford it... @#$%#^$#$^%.... shakehead.gif

Buy yourselve a 5D and use the Nikon 14-24 la... I think the Nikon is clearly the world best super-wide zoom. And there is not even any closer competition... not from Japan or German... thumbup.gif

And to me, any lenses above 300 f2.8 are bad lenses as I cannot afford them... !@#^%$@#24... shakehead.gif

What's the point of great lenses when I cannot buy them and use them? shakehead.gif

5D images are great. I just took some pictures with it in the weekend... It just seems to be always better than my 40D. I yet to process the photos... as last nite has another shooting. Maybe once I finish the processing, I will share the picture here. biggrin.gif

I am not a pro ma...

But then f4 can use flash gun, higher ISO or even a simple tripod to settle the problem.

Some more I do not think shooting wide open for interior is a good idea... sweat.gif

hehe easier ma for point n shoot..

Ya... I agree... And I do not see the point of autofocusing... especially in super-wide... biggrin.gif
