Sony A200 or Olympus E410 which should i choose?
anthrax33
what do you want to shoot?
as far as i know the olly dont have a shallow dof with its kit lens.
so if you are a fan of bokeh, you're going to be disappointed.
the sony has super steady shot which is good for shaky hands and low light conditions. while the olly doesn't.

but the olly excels in light weight and compact in both lens and body.
so if you are a frequent traveler, its a huge benefit.
live-view is also a huge advantage for the olly which is useful for high or low angle shots.

its a matter of personal preferences. you'll have to take those cams for a test drive to see which of them really fits you.
the canon is releasing the 450d which i think is worth looking at.

definitely A200!!
soulfly
You want bokeh, you can't go wrong with a200.

yup.... so ridiculous isn't it?
The Wonder
What about E510 vs A200? Let's forget the price different and just comparing the body plus kit lenses that comes with (tumpang this thread ya, thanks).
soulfly
a200 advantage over E-510
- bokeh, narrow DOF range by nature, nice for portraits
- 9-point autofocus
- battery grip support
- better ISO performance at higher ISO
- ISO up to 3200 which is still acceptable
- 3:2 ratio, traditional standard
- slightly larger body, nice grip

E-510 advantage over a200
- better kit lens (as claimed by many people)
- Live View (can view like PnS camera)
- wide DOF range by nature, nice for landscapes
- 4:3 ratio, digital standard
- lighter and smaller body

You're really monitoring the DSLR current market. Hail the sifu notworthy.gif notworthy.gif .
BTW, if you don't mind (or else just ignore this) can you pls elaborate these :

- 3:2 ratio, traditional standard vs 4:3 ratio, digital standard
- narrow DOF range by nature, nice for portraits vs wide DOF range by nature, nice for landscapes

Thanks for the earlier reply!
soulfly
Traditional film format is using 3:2 ratio. If you print 4R photographs... they're about 6" x 4" .... the dimension ratio is 3:2 correct? Other photo print sizes that utilizes 3:2 ratio are S8R (12x8), S10R (15x10), S12R (18x12). Other sizes such as 3R, 5R, etc are not exactly 3:2. The only 4:3 ratio standard print size is 6R if I'm not mistaken. If you guys print photo to the size which does not meet the dimension ratio, the photo will be cropped. That is why if some of you printed photo from your PnS camera or handphone camera, sometimes the head chopped la, the feet chopped la.... this is because the photo dimension.

4:3 digital standard meanwhile is the same like your monitor resolution, also the same as your PnS camera photos, and also digital TV (such as cable TV, digital satellite TV, DVD, VCD), and also projectors (for presentations). And as I mention before, if you want to print photos to 4R or any other photo size besides 6R, the photo will be cropped.

Regarding the DOF.... 4:3 LiveMOS sensor is smaller than Sony's 3:2 CCD sensor. Naturally, the bigger the sensor, the shallower the DOF compare to a smaller sensor, at the same focal length. It's just like APS-C vs full-frame.... full frame will have shallower DOF naturally due to the sensor size.

Shallow DOF = bokeh = nice for portraits, gives the OOF effect to background
Wide DOF = no bokeh = landscapes

But of course DOF can be obtained thru aperture adjustment, but still bigger sensor will have shallower DOF than smaller sensor.
kwws
go for 450D!!! oso got live view...hahah
poison poison
soulfly
450D will be a bit more expensive.... sure RM3k and above one.

a200 has improvement over a100

sony can make a200 cheaper because it shares some component from a700 like shutter mechanism and auto-focus mechanism.
Mr7077
notice that sony has been pricing their product very competitively recently..like T2, T200 and the new A200...i think it's their new strategy to capture mkt share.
cjtune
Hmm, does Sony have any fast (f2.8-f4.5) zooms? Weather-proofed as well to match the A-700?
~\G.O.D/~
i vote for Sony A200
new in IT
What is bokeh actually?

Sony 16-80mm f3.5-4.5 CZ
Sony 16-105mm f3.5-4.5
Sony 24-105mm f3.5-4.5
Sony 70-200mm f2.8 G SSM

Sony 16mm f2.8 Fisheye
Sony 20mm f2.8
Sony 28mm f2.8
Sony 50mm f2.8 Macro
Sony 100mm f2.8 Macro
Sony 135mm f2.8 STF
Sony 300mm f2.8 G SSM

Weather proofed or not... not sure lazy to check
cjtune
Hmm, I tried checking on Sony's website about the 16-80, 16-105, and 70-200 but the specs don't mention anything about weather proofing. Well, it's a nice-to-have feature, not something imperative yet - only for the rare few that goes out to shoot in crazy weather.
fansoption
is that the curve sony style start selling! then twin lens package?

Hmm.. Interesting pricing they have..
A350 with single kit lense is very tempting.. priced same as A200 with dual kit lense.. damn!
168257061
Between Sony SAL-75300 and Sigma 70mm-300mm F4/5.6 APO , which is better ?

If both are same, i might get the dual lens kit
soulfly
the Sigma is better at macro (1:2 magnification ratio)... the SAL-75300 is only about 1:4
168257061
oh oh i see.....keke
thanks for enlighten me again notworthy.gif

now waiting A200 come only....
lenses wise, will try to whack out those authorized shop.....I dont think I can find out sigma lenses in Sabah doh.gif
davidmak
I vote for A200 too because of the APS-C size sensor and real SLR handling grip. The E-410 doesn't have them and it is on the 4/3 sensor where the sensor is significantly less competitive in terms of noise control. Very subjective though.
eagle.ng
buy a200 + flash...if you prefer more in indoor shooting!!! tongue.gif
Soony
LoL.. A350 is just like A200 + extra 4mp and live view rite?? so how tempting can that be??

Wait for the A300/350 then. But if you don't care about the LiveView, then the A200 with its twin lens kit is a super deal as someone over here calls it.

The Liveview could be a godsend feature if you do a lot of macro, but isn't fast enough to capture action shots. I don't do macro much, and so I hardly use my E-3's Liveview.

Same case here. I don't use my 40D's LiveView too. Very troublesome focusing and mirror flipping action. Sounds like it wants to flip and throw out the mirror. I still stick to conventional advices to use the DSLR via the viewfinder. However I do want to reserve the LiveView for difficult to capture shots like over a crowd.

I also support the orange.

I think autofocus should be better than Olympus that I had tried (super bad).

And it is my opinion that sensor size cannot be further smaller than 1/5/1.6 cropping factor liao la... Quality does suck no matter how good one can do the post digital image processing... smile.gif
hellfire8888
olympus cannot produce good bokeh?

check this pic out..

and dont forget you get 2x cropping factor..400mm lens become 800mm EFL
