i'm planning to get a new compact camera with price around rm1000, but the problem was how to choose a good and reliable camera? normally what criteria was use to judge a good compact camera? and is the charge adaptor able to allow 100V/110V input ac (normally adaptor 230v/240v input ac in malaysia), because i'll be using this camera oversea.
last question, some say AA battery is better that rectangular chargeable battery, and how abt the consumption of the battery of both type of battery? how do you think.
thank!!!

All charger allows 110-240... do ask the sales to reconfirm.
Better get the compact type of battery. You won't regret. Nowadays, all battery/camera allows you to take a lot of pictures. Enough for a day's use or when you go out for holiday.

Get Canon... Its around RM888 with all the free gifts.
Sony is expensive but also OK.

MY opinion of AA is tht when u dont hv backup, it's convenient to get at store to continue shooting while say, u r at genting. ive very little exp with using AA.

I think both batt consumption is same but if u'r really concern, you may look for camera with Optical viewfinder so u can choose to turn off the lcd and extend ur battery to double, some r triple for eg. canon A620 uses 4 AA capable upto 500shots. turn off the lcd, can last upto 1500 shots. but AA makes the cam heavier, imo. most cams last 200-300 shots/charge

if ur for casual shooter and not intend to blow up ur print/or crop ur images on computer, 6mp is ideal. fyi, megapixel do not mean better image quality. they do, but upto 6mp and worse off anythg more (due to small sensor size)

if you do alot of indoor shooting, usable iso is worthy consideration. pana (& certain canon and certain sony) is well known to perform badly at nit but great flexibility during daytime esp. travelling due to its wide angle, long zoom and anti blur. most popular brands perform good at daytime.

Wide angle is almost standard feature nowadays, zoom depend on ur need but u can ignore digital zoom. most digicam r semi manual if this concerns you. ohya, n do get a big mem card if possible during ur dc purchase.
