Well, custom WB should be best used when the color of your photos doesn't seem right to you. Sometimes the lighting can trick the camera into evaluating the WB wrongly when AUTO is used.

The fact is, you need a 18% grey card/paper to evaluate the WB correctly. Otherwise, a semi translucent plastic like the lid of tube of pringles chips will also do the trick.

Otherwise, it's best to use the AUTO WB or other presets which is meant for different lighting conditions.

Cause if you don't know how to use custom WB it will end up screwing up your photo.

The only time I will use custom WB is when I am shooting snowy landscapes.

The WB wont evaluate snow correctly cause it's pure white.

My tip for better CWB, set exposure to 0 first before setting the WB.

thankjs for the replies.

especially for shooting snow eh.....so i presume, CWB is irrelevant in msia lol.....well, even if not, i doubt if its much use to me....

initially i just wonder why if got CWB, review usually say extra thumbs up abt it hehe

well, you can use it anywhere. It's just how the way you use it.

The colors from WB depends on whether you like it or not. Some like to have natural colors some like cooler, some like warmer. Playing with WB can change the mood/lighting of the place.

How to set the CWB? is it just use the digicamera, point it to the tube lid under any normal modern room light..., eg wat distant btw lid and the camera? must the lid covers all of the lcd, then set it?

so ,they both r parellel?
like this?
(dc) |--------------------| (lid) ?
